PART – A
PLAN OF ACTION CHALKED OUT BY THE IQAC AT
THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR TOWARDS QUALITY
ENHANCEMENT AND THE OUTCOME ACHIEVED BY THE
END OF THE YEAR.
The IQAC met at the beginning of the term to plan the activities for the
ensuring year. Certain practices which have been found useful are to be
continued during the coming year also. Accordingly, an orientation programme
for in-coming students is to be conducted at the beginning of the term.
The annual feature of organizing a parent-teacher meeting, alumni
meeting, inaugural function and valedictory function is to be arranged suitably.
This year the college plans to arrange a special programme on fire- safety
in co-ordination with the Fire Station, as an extention activity.
The ‘Samskritotsava’ which is organized during the month of ‘ Shravan’
to encourage study of the classical language Sanskrit is to be continued this year
also.

The college is due for the second cycle of accreditation by NAAC. As
many of the staff members are freshers, the IQAC plans to organise a
presentation by an expert to appraise all the teaching and non-teaching faculty
members about all aspects of the process.
A Yoga & Pranayama workshop is to be arranged for interested
students as it promotes concentration in students.
The cultural committee is asked to draw up a plan to conduct different co-
curricular literary and cultural activities.
With permission from the management, the college has made plans to
celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the establishment of the college. Elaborate
plans and arrangements are required to conduct the same. Committees are to be
formed and work suitably assigned to ensure success of the function.
The department of Political Science has put forth a proposal to oraganize a
book-release function and a one day state level seminar.
The special lecture series, wherein experts from different fields are
invited to deliver lectures on relevant topics is to be continued this year also.
A science exhibition has been planned by the science faculty. This is to
be executed in the next few months.
A ‘Women Empowerment Programme’ and a programme on
environmental concerns is to be arranged.
The kannada department has plans to organize a programme on folk
literature, in co-ordination with Karnataka Janapada Academy. Details of the
same need to be worked out.
All regular sports activities, field trips and add-on course are to be
continued as usual.

1. ACTIVITIES REFLECTING THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
OF THE INSTITUTION :
(a) Orientation programme : An orientation programme for the freshers
was conducted on 02/08/2010. Sri. J. Vivekananda, Dean, IACT was the chief
guest. He spoke on “ Leadership & Motivation”. The principal appraised the
first year students about the facilities,Scholarships, teaching - testing patterns,
add-on courses, etc.
(b) Parent - Teacher meet : A meet was also arranged later in the day to
inter act with parents of the newly enrolled students. The principal informed
the parents that they also need to co-operate and help the ward to involve into a
fully rounded individual.
(c) Fire safety programme : A special programme was oraganised with the
co-operation of the Fire Force Department on 06/08/2010. Fire force personnel
gave an effective demonstration of fire fighting measures and rescue operations.
The programme was well received.
(d) Yoga and Pranayama workshop : On 25/08/2010, founder of Mariyappa
Group of Institutions, Prof. K.B.Lokesh inaugurated a 10 day workshop for
interested students. A good number of students participated in the workshop.
(e) Alumni Meet : An alumni meet was arranged on 05/09/2010. The college
requested the alumni to join hands with the institution in providing guidance for
placements. As the Sliver Jubilee programme was sechduled for 20/09/2010,
our alumni Sri. Shivakumar, Sri. Shashikanth, Sri. Manjunath and Kum.
Tejomathi took up the responsibility of choreography, costumes and training for
the cultural events. They also gave an impressive performance at the function.
(f) Sliver Jubilee : The college organized a grand celebration on 20/09/2010
to mark the Silver Jubilee of the establishment of the degree college. A new
spacious library block was constructed (with a generous donation from the
family of Sri. M.C. Antin, ex president, SJBSS) and was opened to
commemorate the function. The auditorium was renovated with the funds
donated by Sri. R.H.Chandangoudar, former president, SJBSS and inaugurated
the same day.

(g) NAAC Peer Team visit : The NAAC peer team visited the college on
27th & 28th Sep.2010 and assessed the performance of the college pertaining to
various parameters in the block period 2005 – 2010.
(h) National Science Exhibition : A science exhibition displaying charts,
models and PPTs was inaugurated on 28/02/2011 by Sri. C. Ananth, Associate
Prof. MES Degree College.
(i) International women’s Day : International women’s day was celebrated
in a meaningful way by organizing a special talk on ‘Domestic violence’ by
Sri. S. Dorai Babu, Advocate, High Court of Karnataka.
(j) Workshop on Folk Culture : A one day workshop on folk culture was
organized by the Department of Kannada in co-ordination with Karnataka
Janapada Academy.
(k) State Level Seminar : The political science department organized a one
day state level seminar on ‘Political Transitions in Karnataka’ on 13/04/2011.
(l) DHNIE Workshop : Two Deecan Herald workshops on “Group
Dicussion & Career Guidance” and “Self Esteem and Positive Self Image”
were oraganised on 25/02/2010 for second year students.
(m) Add-on courses, field trips and industrial visits continued as in earlier
years.
2) Innovations in Curricular Design and Transaction :
Syllabi in some subjects has been revamped. Kannada and English
syllabus has been totally revised. A listening and speaking component has been
added in the English syllabus. The Political Science syllabus has undergone a
complete change. The following lecturers have worked as members of BOS,
BOE and Text Books Committee.

4. Examination Reform : Examinations are contucted as per the norms laid
down by Bangalore University. The 90+10 pattern is continued this year also
and internal assessment marks are awarded based on performance in mid-
semester examination and assignments. OMR sheets have been introduced for
candidate’s application form for examination and also for recording marks
during valuation. MCQs are introduced in non-core papers. All eligible staff
members work as invigilators, valuers, reviewers, paper setters and tabulators.
5. Initiative for Faculty Development : The college encourages the teachers
to pursue higher studies. The details of the lecturers who have pursued higher

14. Health Services : A doctor has been appointed and he visits the college
twice a month. Students consults him on need basis. He also attends to
the emergency situation, as his nursing home is nearby.
15. Sports Activities : Kabaddi and Volley ball teams from our college
participated in the Bangalore University Inter Collegiate Tournament
and our college team emerged winners in the Volley ball tournament.
It is a matter of pride that five students from our college, i.e, Deepak,
Pavan, Neethesh, Satish and Karthik were selected as members of B.U.
Kabaddi team.

An annual athletic meet was held in the B.U. grounds. Kum. Kalai Selvi
of B.Sc. won the girls’ championship while Sri. Lokesh Gowda of B.A.
won the boys’ championship.

to several companies. But, we do not have records of placements obtained by
our students . Trent ltd, a TATA Enterprise conducted a campus drive on
10/03/2011 and recruited seven students. On 14/03/2011 a pool campus drive
was held at KLE College by ACC Ltd. Four of our students were recruited.

NIIT conducted a seminar on 16/08/2010 to appraise students on IT
Career Prospects. On 25/01/2011 a ‘Career Design’ seminar was arranged for
final year students. Mr. Joe .P. John of Brain Tree Company was the resource
person. On 15/02/2011 a workshop on ‘Resume Preparation’ was arranged and
Sri. Ramanjaneya Tilak from HR Department, Accenture, conducted the
seminar.

PART - C
All the sustenance measures which have found favor with students shall
be continued in the coming year also i.e, add - on courses, special lectures, co-
curricular activities, sports activities, publication of college magazine, Deccan
Herald workshop, etc. Programmes relating to women empowerment and
environmental conservation need to be arranged. More number of teachers will
be motivated to apply for minor research projects. As most of our students are
first-generation learners, the college plans to organize some training
programme to help them improve their soft skills and face aptitude tests and
interviews. The college has made plans to purchase equipment to upgrade the
infrastructure and encourage ICT learning.

APPENDIX - III
A Report on the one – day State Level Seminar on ‘Political
Transitions in Karnataka’
The political science department of the college organised a one – day
State Level Seminar on ‘Political Transitions’ in Karnataka on 13th April 2011.
The seminar began with a prayer by Kum. Nikita and group. The
programme was inaugurated by Sri. H. Balashekar, K.A.S., Administrator,
S.J.B.S.S.(N). Sri Jairamraju Urs, K.A.S., M.D., Karnataka Government Public
Land Records Corporation and Beverages Board, Bangalore, delivered the key
note address.
The first session of the seminar was presided over by Dr. Shivanna Sr.
Prof., ISEC, Bangalore. In the first session, the resource person Prof. G.
Shivaraju, Professor, R.B.A.N.M.S. College presented a paper on the much
discussed subject of the day ‘Political Defection’. In the same session, the
second resource person Dr. B.S. Lingaraju, Prof. in Political Science (Rtd.)
presented his paper on the “Role of Opposition in Democracy”, highlighting
the lack of commitment and organization among today’s politicians.
The second session for the day began at 1.15 after a sumptuous lunch.
This session was presided over by Dr. M. Narasimha Murthy, Senior Professor,
Dept. of Political Science, B.U. In this session, the two important topics of
current interest i.e., corruption ; and social and political movements, were the
focus of deliberation. Dr. Siddalinga Swamy , Professor, P.G. Department of
History, Govt. Arts College, Bangalore, presented his paper on ‘Corruption in
Politics and Bureaucracy at the Local, State and National Level’. This was
particularly more meaningful in the backdrop of the fight for the
implementation of Lok Pal Bill, by the noted freedom fighter Sri. Anna Hazare.
The second paper in this session was presented by Dr. K.J. Suresh, Sr.
Professor, Karnataka State Open University. The topic of his presentation
was ‘Political and Social Movements in Karnataka’. As the resource person
was a writer and scholar of great repute, his paper was very meaningful as it
covered a gamut of movements like Literary, Cultural, Dalit movement etc.

The seminar concluded with a Valedictory session. It was presided
over by Dr. M.G. Krishnan, Sr. Professor, Dept. of Political Science, B.U. He
spoke about the problem of black money, corruption, defection, Wikileak
reports and the current trend of politics bereft of values and ideology. The
programme was well- received and the Principal Dr. C.M. Kundagol proposed
the vote of thanks. Over 50 lecturers from other colleges, staff from our
college and students from B.A. classes attended the seminar.
