From the Director’s chair Hello everybody! Well here we are in British Summer Time but it seems that nobody has told the weather that just yet.

Although I’m reliably informed that we are due a heatwave later in April..... Fingers crossed it’s here in time for Easter! My Electraglide has just had a new front tyre fitted in readiness for the poker run this weekend and another road trip to Northern Spain at the end of the month. We intend to drop down a bit more this time depending on the weather to what they call The Real Spain.

We’ve only booked the first night’s hotel and eatery for when we get off the ferry at Santander as it’s a National Holiday in Spain too. After that we go where we want and when we want with no itinerary whatsoever. Might even take a bivi bag and sleep under the stars to see what that’s like ... That means no tent ! Anyone know if there are poisonous snakes in Spain? Please be extra careful when you’re riding early season because the car drivers aren’t used to bikes after the winter!

Don’t forget that if you have any ideas for rides or runs or anything you’d like to know do give me a call. Newer members get stuck in and do not be shy every one was new once when they joined you know! Any of you regularly going on mates rides please don’t forget to share and invite the Chapter along too, after all you wouldn’t be mates if it wasn’t for Fenlanders, one of the biggest and oldest Chapters in the land.

Fenlanders Committee Meeting... Sunday 7th April… Some people were there at 10.00am

News from Garry … Fenlanders Newsletter APRIL 2019 Hi All, Well it’s April already, I know I say this almost every time but time is really flying nowadays, I know, old age!

Anyway we have our Birthday Party next up on Saturday 27th April where we will have two live bands, supplier and club stands, Blood Bikes and of course the return of the Fenlanders HOG Hot Chilli-Dog Challenge!

Then into May... On Thursday 16th we have our very first ever Bike Night from 19.00 through 21.00. Again a live band “Guns for Hire” will keep us all entertained whilst Bazza will be doing hot food. Further nights planned for Thursday June 20th Thursday July 18th Thursday August 15th and weather dependant Thursday September 19th.

I’m very pleased to say that the Google Calendar on the website is now fully functional so check it out and remember you can add the calendar to your device. I find this really handy as I can see everything that is happening in one place. Over on our Facebook page most of the rides and events are listed and we will add more as ride details are finalised. Finally, as always, if I can do anything to make your Chapter or Dealership experience better, don’t hesitate to call or better still see me at the shop, on rides or at events, see you all out there! Hi guys April has arrived, and the weather and lighter evenings are here. Plenty of events stacked in the year already, not forgetting first up this month but too early for this issue the poker run from Newmarket to Norwich. Then later our Birthday Party on the 27th Our very first at the new Oaks drive premises. It doesn’t seem that long ago I was saying our last ever goodbye at the Black Bear Lane site, how time flies! This year we have bands, stalls and the big cheque presentation at 12.00noon for Blood Bikes. Please come down and enjoy a great day. Not only will we have Barry’s Burger van but also Chilli-Dogs provided by Hinge and Bracket and team. Product News …. HD have extended the low APR 6.6% offer on ALL SPORTSTER MODELS AND FXBB (StreetBob) until the end of the month, which gives you the time to consider possibly adding another bike to the collection or even an upgrade. Accessory, Parts and Merchandise Department have brought out an integral Bluetooth helmet, which is called ‘boom audio’. There are features which enable the user to play music and answer phone calls on the go. Also, new FXRG all-weather riding gloves for him and her, and a ladies’ version of waterproof trainers. Ask Yuliya and Lee for more details on these great new items.

Service booking now is two to three weeks especially if you need a Saturday. Other news in that department... we now have a fully functioning MOT bay and a new associate of the service team has joined us. Paul Asquith, who has many years of experience working on Harley motorcycles.

Tech tip of the month is BRAKE PAD WEAR

When the rider presses on the brake lever or pedal of a disc brake equipped motorcycle, the brake master cylinder attached to the lever or pedal pressurizes the system and sends hydraulic pressure to the brake calliper(s) at the wheels. The callipers have one or more pistons which are forced outward against the metal backing of the brake pads. As the brake pads clamp against the spinning rotor, they create friction which converts the kinetic energy built up in the motorcycle from speed, into heat energy. This heat passes into the brake rotors, pads and callipers, and finally into the air.

Brake pads are the friction surfaces which contact the brake discs (commonly called brake rotors as well) in disc brake systems. They are made of various friction materials bonded (they used to also be riveted) to a steel backing plate. Most of the older brake linings were made from asbestos, but as the health hazards of the material were recognized, asbestos was phased out and newer, high-tech materials were introduced to replace it. Today, brake pad linings (friction material) are made from a variety of high-tech materials. Make it a habit to visually inspect your brake pads on the bike, before a ride and during oil changes, etc. You may need a flashlight, but look into the callipers, including the back side as there are inner and outer pads. If the friction lining has worn down to about an eighth inch or less, it's time for replacement. You should also always listen and pay attention to the sounds coming from your brakes. If the sound changes, heed that as a warning and inspect the brakes immediately. A squealing sound may or may not indicate a problem.

Southend Shakedown Ride – NOT going ahead: This event has not been organised by a recognised Bike Group; ONLY limited ‘on-road’ parking tickets available on the day. (we believe only 150 available). Bikes not parking in specifically designated bike parks (old gas works, where two bikes were stolen last year) or found on road without ticket, will be fined/towed away. Given lack of parking security and parking options for a large group, as a Chapter we will not be hosting a ride to this event.

Saturday 27th April Blood Bike donation presentation at Newmarket at 12:00pm which will take place as part of the Dealership Birthday Party. Please could we have as many Chapter Members as possible to support the presentation with the

BIG Chapter Cheque. There will be Stalls, Food and Music and Fenlanders Chapter Charity Chilli-Dogs – volunteers from the membership would be very welcome to take turns in helping on the stall.
