works to the children of men!” Psalm 92:1 “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto

thy name, O most High:” Indeed, God is worthy to be praised. God is worthy of our thanks and if you have had any

dealings with Him at all you know how true this is. Here at Barnes Evangelistic Ministries Evangelist Gary L. Barnes and

family and staff are reminded often of the PRAISE that our precious Lord deserves!

November and December were months filled with the blessings of the Lord and fruitful for the Kingdom of Heaven, Praise

His Holy Name! Thank YOU for your prayers, encouragement and support as we press on in the ministry of spreading the

Gospel around the world and standing with Bible preaching pastors and soul winning churches. With YOUR help we can see

that the job gets done for JESUS! HE deserves all we can do!

November 1 – 3 the men were scheduled to erect the new 200ft. GRN radio tower in Tallapoosa, GA., but some of our

hardware was incorrect so we had to postpone the work until January 3 – 4, 2017 (read more details inside this

newsletter). Please continue to help us pray that this project will be completed soon. Nov. 6 – 9 our family was honored

to conduct revival meetings at The Bay View Baptist Church in Washington, IL., with Pastor, Dr. Keith Thibo and the great

folk at Bay View. I had a great time preaching and the family helped with singing. The Lord blessed and gave us a total

attendance of 1000+ and six precious souls were saved; Praise God for His goodness! Nov. 11-12 our family enjoyed

attending the Fundamental Men’s Conference at the Sword headquarters in Murfreesboro, TN. We were blessed to hear

preaching by Dr. Shelton Smith, Dr. Jeff Fugate, Dr. David Sumner, Dr. Ron Brown and Dr. Terry Frala. These men shared

God’s Word directed at issues we are living in today. YOU should be there next year for a blessing and help. Nov. 30 –

Dec. 8 God gave our family a very special treat. We were able to take a short vacation and travel to California. We have

been planning this trip for some 12 years and God gave us a GREAT time. The US Navy ship (The USS MIDWAY) is anchored

in San Diego harbor and is being used for a museum. I was stationed on the Midway in 1964. We spent one day touring

the ship and seeing all the places I once called home (find more details of our trip on the inside). We had great months for

the ministry in November and December. During these two months we saw 17 people come to Jesus for salvation. The

five (5) ministries of Barnes Evangelistic Ministries are enjoying some exciting days for the cause of Christ and His Gospel

during these perilous times. God is so good to allow us to have a small part in continuing the work that Jesus started!

Revival Blessings

One of the great joys our family has in our service for the Lord is to preach

and sing in Fundamental Baptist Churches across America. As an Evangelist it

is always a blessing to know that someone in the services has been helped and

truly REVIVED.

Recently from one of the revivals the Lord gave us I received this letter from a

church member.

“Dear Brother Barnes,

I wanted to personally write to you to say I’m grateful for your service in

the Lord that helped me rededicate my life to the Lord Jesus. What a true

revival it was for me and God knew I needed it. Also I am enjoying the

material I bought from you. Romans lessons I & II have been a great help.”

What a blessing! It is always good to know God is using our efforts to help

Progress on the Tower: We have been in the process of

erecting our new 200 ft. radio tower in Tallapoosa, GA. for

several months. We are having to coordinate our schedule with

the Tower man’s schedule; pray for dry weather; have certain parts made;

order new parts to be delivered and make sure everything is ready to go.

Obviously all this takes time. But, PRAISE THE LORD we are on schedule to

begin the job on January 3 & 4, 2017. Please pray God will let this happen!

Brittney and Sydney get Saved

Our son Evan and I were out knocking on doors soul winning a few

Saturdays ago. We went to the house of a young man that had visited our

home church earlier.

Austin was not home. He had to work that day. His twenty year old wife

Brittney answered the door. She had her sixteen year old friend visiting that day.

Sydney was a friendly and polite teen.

Evan and I stood at the door and began to get acquainted with Brittney and

Sydney. In a few minutes I began to talk about salvation and I asked them both if

they were sure they were going to Heaven when they die. Brittney answered first

and said she believed she would go to Heaven. Then Sydney followed.

I detected a little doubt so I asked if anyone had ever showed them what the

Bible has to say about going to Heaven. As I asked this question I took out my NT

and began to show them Scriptures that talk about going to Heaven. They had

never seen anything like this.

In a minute I asked if they would receive Christ and they both said, “Yes”. We

bowed our heads and I began to pray with them and I asked them to pray and ask

the Lord to save them right then and there. When I looked up Brittney had big

tears rolling down her cheeks. Both were wonderfully saved that day! PRAISE the

LORD the GOSPEL still works!

Ernest’s Homecoming

My dad was the oldest of twelve children in his family. Obviously, I have many

aunts, uncles, and cousins. Through the years I have had the privilege to preach

the funeral services of many of them. Recently, I was honored to preach my cousin

Ernest home going service. Please pray for his sweet wife of fifty one (51) years,

Shirley. Ernest had a great testimony and the people filled the chapel. The Lord

gave us a great graduation service for Ernest and when I gave the invitation for

doubters to receive Christ as Saviour, six (6) dear people raised their hand trusting

Christ as Saviour.

May we all live in a way that when God calls us home He can use our

graduation service to get someone else to Jesus and eternal life. Thank you

“Ernest” for living an exemplary life! We’ll see you again!

Our California Trip

God is always GOOD! But, every once in a while He puts a little icing on the

cake and does something extra for us. So it was with our trip to California.

For over ten years our family has prayed, saved, planned and talked about

going where I was stationed in the Navy many years ago. Finally we felt like the

Lord said “GO!”

Shannon and Rachel had never flown. So they were excited and nervous too.

We left Atlanta and flew to Los Angles and LAX. We rented a van in LA and spent

some time sight-seeing. We enjoyed Wed. night church service at the Faith Baptist

Church in Canoga Park, CA. where the pastor is Brother Tim Rasmussen.

Then the next day we drove to San Diego and got settled in. The next morning

we went out to the harbor and went on broad the air craft carrier, The USS

Midway. This was my home in 1964.

We spent the whole day on the Midway. I enjoyed

showing my family where I slept, ate and worked. The

guides were very helpful and I was honored to share the

Gospel with many of them.

We spent two nights in San Diego and then we drove

back to Los Angles. By this time it was Sunday and we

enjoyed being in Sunday school and

church with Pastor Dennis Chapman and

the good folks of Calvary Baptist Church

in Simi Valley.

The next day we drove to San

Francisco and enjoyed seeing the

country side along the journey. We

settled in for the night and we rose up

early to spend the whole day visiting

sites in Frisco.

After a couple of days in SF we drove

back to LA. We checked into the hotel

and then drove to Pacifica to visit the

church where Pastor Landers used to

pastor.

Before flying out of LAX we really

enjoyed the tour of the Presidential

Library of former President Ronald

Reagan. What a great lesson in

American history and a tribute to one of

America’s greatest Presidents (and one

that I remember and voted for).

What a great trip! God is so good!

Visiting the places I served while in the

US Navy was tremendous, and brought

back so many memories. God truly let us

do all we had planned and everything

fell in place, AMEN! (see the many

pictures on our web-site).

I was reminded how much I love

AMERICA and am proud to be a citizen

of such a great and blessed nation (Ps.

33:12).

There is only a few things in life I

would die for and America is one of

them.

But, as I reviewed and enjoyed all

the memories, landmarks and familiar

sights, I was reminded of what America

has become because of apostasy,

unbelief, violence and perversion. We

have left God out of every walk of life

and turned our backs on the Creator of

life, salvation, holiness, judgement and

eternity. We have blasphemed Jesus,

God’s Word and His church.

I love America but I must weep

when I see what she has become.

I am convicted as I realize how

important it is that Christians get busy

telling everyone how to go to Heaven

and stay out of Hell. The Gospel is the power of God unto SALVATION.

I am honored that God would use Barnes Evangelistic Ministries, The Gospel

Radio Network, personal soul winning, preaching His Word and singing His

songs to fill America and the world with the blessed Gospel of Jesus Christ. As I look forward to a NEW YEAR I am determined (by the GRACE of GOD) to

do more in 2017 to see that all of America and the world hears the Gospel.

Let’s join together to see that this goal is reached! (Acts 19:10).

The Will of God

Finding the will of God; knowing the will of God and doing the will of

God is very difficult for many Christians today it seems.

The will of God is not just about finding something God wants us to DO

and then DOING it. Anybody can DO good works, even some lost people.

No, DOING the will of God starts with BEING. God knows if you and I

will BE what God wants us to BE we will come a lot closer to DOING what

God wants us to DO.

BEING what God wants us to BE is about loving Him, dedication to Him,

surrender to Him, wanting to please Him and loving what He loves.

If we will BE what He wants us to BE we will DO what He wants us to

DO! God doesn’t just want our work HE wants US! This is the will of God!

(Romans 12:1,2).

Old Time Religion and Modernism

One of my favorite heroes of all-time is Dr. John R. Rice, founder and

editor of the Sword of the Lord newspaper for many years.

If you will notice, Dr. Rice placed in the heading of the Sword these

words: Opposing Modernism (Liberalism), Worldliness and Formalism.

It is not very difficult to understand what Dr. Rice was talking about

here in these words.

Today in many of our

fundamental churches everyone

wants to claim to be “Old-

fashioned.” I say “AMEN” to that

and I admire a pastor and Christian

that has desire to be “old-

fashioned”. Most Christians would

say that “old-fashioned” is “old-time

religion.” I agree.

Obviously, whether you are

talking about television shows,

clothing dress standards or

churches, “old-fashioned” has to do

with a better way than the

“modern” way.

Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD,

Stand ye in the ways, and see, and

ask for the old paths, where is the

good way, and walk therein, and ye

shall find rest for your souls. But they

said, We will not walk therein.

Jeremiah says it is “the good way.”

Sometimes I wonder if “old-

fashioned” doesn’t mean one thing

to one person and something else to

another.

Just because we say we’re “old-

fashioned” doesn’t mean we’re “old-

fashioned.” And, obviously, if we are

not “Old-fashioned,” we are a

“MODERNIST.”

“Old-fashioned” means “Old-

fashioned,” and, this shows up in

everything we believe, practice,

support, teach and preach.

You either have “old-fashioned”

music or “modern” music; you either

have “old-fashioned” standards or

“modern” standards; you either

have “old-fashioned” bus ministries

or “modern” bus ministries; you

either have “old-fashioned” soul

winning programs or “modern” soul

winning (if any); you either have

“old-fashioned” Sunday school or

“modern” Sunday school; you either

have “old-fashioned children’s

programs or you have “modern” children’s programs.

All I’m asking is that we be honest about the matter. We are either

really “old-fashioned” or we are a “modernist.”

Some churches calling themselves soul winning churches are not really

soul winning churches. When was the last time you had anyone saved, and

what percent of your people actually go on organized church soul winning

each week? Sounds good to say, “We have a soul winning” church!

I love everybody and I am honestly not trying to make anyone mad. I

am just trying to help us stop and think.

Could it be that real “old-fashioned” pastors and preachers like John

Rice, J. Frank Norris, Jack Hyles, Lee Roberson, Curtis Hutson, W. Jack

Hudson, Bob Kelly and others (and even a “few” today) had the largest

church in their states because they had something everyone today doesn’t

have?

I believe it’s called the POWER OF GOD! Someone said, “Today we

don’t have enough POWER to blow the fuss off a peanut.”

No, I’m not saying these men were different (within themselves) than

the pastors and preachers of today. But, I have to wonder if they didn’t

know what “old-fashioned” is better than we do today.

Sometimes it seems today that pastors and preachers are consumed

with finding some “new way” of doing things in every area of the ministry.

We need to be careful because the lost world tries to do that.

Acts 17:21 (For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent

their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)

I don’t know that I’m am a good inventor, but I am pretty good at

being a COPY-CAT. It doesn’t matter if I’m coaching a ball game of some

kind, or running a bus route, or teaching a Sunday school class, or picking

out songs for the service, I can follow what my fore-fathers/teachers did

and what is the real “GOOD OLD-FASHIONED WAY”.

Seems like today, we have too many young pastors and preachers that

are INVENTORS instead of COPY-CATS.

I wish I could admonish every young pastor/preacher to study what

the “OLD PASTORS” did and follow their example in all areas of ministry

and church work.

“If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. Remember what happened to Rehoboam

(I Kings 12:1-15). King Rehoboam was a “MODERNIST” and he divided the

Kingdom simply because he would not listen to the “Old” men!

God help us to “LISTEN TO THE OLD MEN” and avoid a lot of trouble and

difficulty.

YES, YOU CAN KNOW FOR SURE THAT YOU ARE GOING TO HEAVEN!

1John 5:13 “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on

the name of the Son of God.” Notice this verse says YOU can KNOW!

HERE IS THE BIBLE WAY TO HEAVEN:

1. You must BELIEVE and realize you are a SINNER: Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” No one is exempt. No

one is excluded. You are a sinner because you have broken God’s law.

2. You must BELIEVE and realize there is a PAYMENT (penalty) for SIN: Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death;” Just as there are wages for

good, there is punishment for wrong. The penalty for our sin is eternal separation from God in Hell.

3. You must BELIEVE Christ died and rose again for YOU: Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners,

Christ died for us.”

4. You must BELIEVE that ETERNAL LIFE is a free GIFT which YOU receive by FAITH in JESUS: Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but

the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” A GIFT cannot be worked for; it must be RECEIVED by putting your FAITH in what JESUS did

for YOU on the cross.

Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be

saved.”

Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Everlasting life is a gift purchased by the blood of Jesus and offered freely to those who call upon Him by faith.

Why not pray right now and ask Jesus to save you? “Dear Jesus, I know I am a sinner. Please forgive me for my sins. I now trust you as my personal

Savior. Come into my heart and save my soul from Hell. Please take me to Heaven when I die. Thank you for saving me, Jesus. Amen.”

The Christian life is a battle field. The flesh is at war with the Sprit that dwells in us. Man’s will is at war with the w ill of God.

This war continues until we are with Jesus, but we can have the victory and we can win the war by grace, power and help of God.

However, if we will obey God’s Word we can and will enjoy victory in this NEW YEAR!

HOW CAN WE WIN THE WAR IN 2017? Consider the “A, B, C’s” of the Christian warfare.

I. APPLY YOUR FAITH PROPERLY Every human being has faith; we are born with it (Rom. 12:3; John 1:9).

(1 John 5:4) Our faith should be in Jesus for salvation and in nothing else (Acts 4:12)

2. BUILD-UP YOUR FAITH POWERFULLY How do we build-up our faith? WE ADD TO IT! So many people get saved

and they stop right there and don’t ADD to their faith (2 Peter 1:5-10).

3. CONFESS YOUR FAITH PASSIONATELY (Jude 22-23) ----- “Pulling them out of the fire.” Determine in 2017 to win

everyone you can to Jesus (Deut. 12:3). Confess our faith to all!
