The challenges of Serious Youth Violence has not ceased or decreased for the number of homicides on the streets of London committed by young people exceeds last year’s figure. We continue to be the church reaching out to our communities and witnessing to them because we believe that the solution lies within the gospel. We the church have the solution.

As a body we stand stronger together and it is with this in mind that Ascension Trust Synergy continues to press on with the aim of bringing synergy to the work which is taking place around us by individuals and groups within the church and wider society.

The Synergy Network (SN) is a coalition of churches and para-church organisations committed to tackling serious youth violence (SYV). The SN works with key organisations through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which captures the essence of its relationship - focusing on roles, responsibilities, governance, accountability, best practice and financial arrangements. To date, this includes the Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI), the Diocese of Southwark and London City Mission. The

MOU also provides guidelines for other organisations that may wish to join SN.

Its modus operandi is to:

• Raise awareness among churches, para-church groups and individual (Christians) of serious youth violence and encourage them to work together to address this issue.

• Resource those with a desire to engage in activities to combat SYV by encouraging conversations between churches and

practitioners.

• Help the Church speak with one voice on this issue as well as facilitate links between them and Government, civil society organisations and others.leaders and those working with young people. We need them there on 22nd February 2020 to hear and to network. We also need church leaders to be present to hear and network and look forward to seeing a number of you on the day.

Some of you may have already seen that the Mayor of London and Google, in partnership with the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), have launched a Shared Endeavour Fund. This is in response to the London Bridge terror attack, recent spate of racist graffiti and rise in homophobic, anti-Semitic and Islamophobic incidents, and will offer grants to local organisations to provide services and education to Counter-Extremism.

This £800,000 fund, with £400,000 provided by both the Mayor of London and Google, will allow groups to bid for grants of up to £50,000. Sadiq Khan has said that the money will be invested in “local communities and grassroots groups”, because “evidence

shows they are best placed to counter hate, intolerance and extremism”

More details about the launch can be found in this news article.

To apply for this exciting funding opportunity please click here.

Please note the deadline for applications is 10pm on Sunday 22nd March 2020.

Worship Leader Vacancy

St. Chad's Church, Chadwell Heath is a vibrant church near Romford, growing in Christ for Christ.

We have an exciting opportunity for a committed Christian, with the ability to read music and with demonstrable musical expertise, who is called by God to use that gift in the service of worship in a church environment.

This will predominantly be at our 10.45am service on a Sunday, leading a congregation of around 200 people.

To apply please contact our church office for an application pack:Post: St Chad’s Church Office, Eric Road, Chadwell Heath, Essex, RM6 6JH. Tel: 020 8597 807

St John’s Church Stratford seeks an Organist/Keyboard player. This is a permanent appointment. The person appointed needs to be a committed Christian with a vision for sung worship. Music is

important to our ministry. We average 12 pieces of varied music in a Morning Holy Communion service.

The person appointed will need to work with our Choir Director, Ministry Team, and Worship Leaders to ensure the best possible music for Sunday Services. We need a person who is competent Organist to get the best out of our 3 manual, Grade 2 listed, Hill Norman and Beard Organ. The person appointed will also need to play keyboard in our worship band, comprising guitars, bass, drums, woodwind, and lead vocals from one or more of our worship leaders. We tend to play Hillsongs/New Wine music, not always new, with an emphasis on what is actually singable. Our style is Rock and Roll, rather than folk.

The person appointed will need to play for Sunday mornings, (music practice is 10am for 11am Service) and Sunday evenings Music practice 5:45 for 6:30 Service). There are VERY rare midweek band practices.

Occasional stand-ins are available. There are performance opportunities, and opportunities to expand St John’s musical activities, if

appropriate for the person appointed. There are very few weddings and 6-8 funerals per year. We offer a stipend of £3,000 per year, negotiable dependent on qualifications, experience etc. If

the person appointed wishes to teach pupils, we would offer free use of organ and pianos for lessons, agreed times - we particularly want to encourage young musicians. We promise a high level of appreciation, and the chance to be part of a friendly and mission-oriented church.

The person appointed would need to work according to St John’s Safeguarding policy.

For an application form, or an informal chat please contact: Rev David Richards 0208 503 1913. [email protected] Closing Date 03 February 2020
