BaptistVillageCommunities(BVC)officiallyintroducesNathanPurifoyascampusdirectorofBap-tistVillageofOwasso,effectiveOctober1.NathansucceedsMikeShawn,whoretiredfromthepositionattheendofSeptember.
HebringsaheartforsenioradultsandapassionforministrytoBVC.
Nathanandhiswife,Jamie,servedinWashingtonfornearlythreeyears,workingwithasmallchurchplantinthemusicministry.
UponmovingtoOklahoma,hejoinedthemaintenanceteamattheBaptistGeneralConventionofOklahomaforfouryears.ItwasnotlongbeforeBVCteammemberstooknoticeofhispositiveattributesandzealforservice.
“Iwastryingtofind the right pathfor me,” says Na-than.“Iwas invitedto join BVC andfeltlikeitwaswhereGod was directingme.”
Purifoy joinedBVC in 2009. Heoriginally served onthe maintenanceteamatBaptistVil-lage of OklahomaCity.His leadershippotential soon be-came evident, andhe went to schoolandobtainedhisag-ing services admin-
istrationlicense.HethenassumedtheroleofassociatecampusdirectoratOklahomaCityforayear,andthencametoOwassotoserveinthesamecapacitythispastyear. “Iamincrediblyhonoredtohavethisopportunity,”saysPurifoy.“ItistrulyagiftfromtheLord,andIamsograteful!IwanttodomybesttohonorHimwithit.” NathanandhisfamilyarefaithfulmembersofCentralBaptistChurchinOwassowhereheandhiswifeserveintheworshipministry.Theyhavethreechildren,Olivia,PaigeandRachel.

Theconceptisworkingsowell,otherVillagesareincorporatingtheculturechangeintotheirloca-tions.
ResidentRoyEnterlinecametotheVillagejustafteritopenedlastsummer.
“It’sawonderfulplacetolive”,saysEnterline.“It’slikeafamily.”
Enterlineisa“retired”BaptistministerwhopreachedattwoTulsachurchesandcontinuestomin-isterandpreachatage96asavolunteerchaplainatTheNeighborhoods.
“I’llstillbepreachinguntiltheLordcallsmehome.He’sevidentlygotsomethingmoreformetodo,orIwouldn’tbehere.”
GaleMoyo,anativeofZimbabwe,isacertifiedmedicationaidewhohasbeenatTheNeighborhoodsforayear.
Residents’schedulesareflexible,soresidentsarenotawakenedaccordingtoarigidtimetabletotakemedicine,shesaid.Theygotobedandgetupwhentheywant,astheywouldintheirownhome.
Sheregularlycooksbreakfastforresidentsinthekitchenwhilechattingwiththemandoftenplayscardsanddominoeswiththem.
Residentsoftenhelpoutwithvarioushousekeepingtasksbutarenotrequiredto.
“It’s a two-waystreet,” Pierce says.“We serve the resi-dents,buttheyserveus,too.Weministerwith them, not tothem.”
The Neighbor-hoods at BaptistVillage of BrokenArrow is leadingthe way in shapingthe future of agingservices in Oklaho-ma. Residents andfriends team alikefaithfully exemplifythe BVC culture asthey serve God andservetogethereveryday.

BVChaspublishedafantasticministrybookaimedatstrengtheningresidents’spiritualneeds. Sharing God’s Love and Joy isacomprehensivecollectionof52devotionalBiblestudies;onestudyforeachweek
oftheyear.
The book was written by Willa Ruth Garlow, a retired SundaySchoolspecialistwiththeBaptistGeneralConventionofOklahoma.Mrs.GarlowlivesinOklahomaCityandisawriterandmotivationalspeaker.ShehasauthoredmaterialsforLifewayChristianResourcesandhasbeenakeynotespeakerin34statesandaroundtheworld.
“Myprayeristhatthesedevotional-timesuggestionswillbeabless-ingtoolderadults,carestaffandthepersonswhopresentandpartici-
pate in these devotions,” says Mrs.Garlow.

“Wewantedtocreateanenvironmentthatlookslikewhereafamilylivesandactslikewhereafam-ilylives,”saysBillPierce,presidentofBaptistVillageCommunities(BVC).
“It’sanewconcept.AsfarasIknow,thisistheonlyonelikeitinOklahoma,”hesays.
TheNeighborhoodscelebratedoneyearofserviceinAugust.
Oneofthingsthatmakesthefacilityuniqueisthestaff.Calledthe“friendsteam”,theywearstreetclothesinsteadofuniformsorscrubs.Inadditiontotheirregularprofessionalduties,theyminglewithresidents,fixthemfood,ofteneatwiththem,playgamesorsimplysitandtalk.

“MydadwasinWorldWarIandhewasshell-shockedsohewasparalyzedonhisleftside,”Masseysaid.“Weweresittingupwithhimbeforehediedandmomsaid,‘I’mgoingtoteachyoutocrochet.We’renotgoingtosithereanddonothing.’”
For60years,Masseysaidshe’skept that traditionalive.She’snow86andteachingtheskill toayoungergeneration.
For several months, Madison Gaines, a 13-year-old from Stratford, Oklahoma, has been visitingMasseyonFridaymorningstolearnhomemakingskillslikecrochetingandcanningvegetables.

“Wewantedtocreateanenvironmentthatlookslikewhereafamilylivesandactslikewhereafam-ilylives,”saysBillPierce,presidentofBaptistVillageCommunities(BVC).
“It’sanewconcept.AsfarasIknow,thisistheonlyonelikeitinOklahoma,”hesays.
TheNeighborhoodscelebratedoneyearofserviceinAugust.
Oneofthingsthatmakesthefacilityuniqueisthestaff.Calledthe“friendsteam”,theywearstreetclothesinsteadofuniformsorscrubs.Inadditiontotheirregularprofessionalduties,theyminglewithresidents,fixthemfood,ofteneatwiththem,playgamesorsimplysitandtalk.

GaleMoyo,anativeofZimbabwe,isacertifiedmedicationaidewhohasbeenatTheNeighborhoodsforayear.
Residents’schedulesareflexible,soresidentsarenotawakenedaccordingtoarigidtimetabletotakemedicine,shesaid.Theygotobedandgetupwhentheywant,astheywouldintheirownhome.
Sheregularlycooksbreakfastforresidentsinthekitchenwhilechattingwiththemandoftenplayscardsanddominoeswiththem.
Residentsoftenhelpoutwithvarioushousekeepingtasksbutarenotrequiredto.
“It’s a two-waystreet,” Pierce says.“We serve the resi-dents,buttheyserveus,too.Weministerwith them, not tothem.”

Nathanandhiswife,Jamie,servedinWashingtonfornearlythreeyears,workingwithasmallchurchplantinthemusicministry.
UponmovingtoOklahoma,hejoinedthemaintenanceteamattheBaptistGeneralConventionofOklahomaforfouryears.ItwasnotlongbeforeBVCteammemberstooknoticeofhispositiveattributesandzealforservice.
“Iwastryingtofind the right pathfor me,” says Na-than.“Iwas invitedto join BVC andfeltlikeitwaswhereGod was directingme.”
Purifoy joinedBVC in 2009. Heoriginally served onthe maintenanceteamatBaptistVil-lage of OklahomaCity.His leadershippotential soon be-came evident, andhe went to schoolandobtainedhisag-ing services admin-
