This past week our parish received a check in the amount of $11,533.00 on behalf of the 2011 Bishop’s Stewardship Appeal. As a result of reaching our 2011 BSA target we received 50% of everything raised over our target. Thank you for your continued support of the diocesan annual appeal which benefits both our parish and broader church in North Carolina. Parents of students in our parochial school please be certain that your membership is active, as it pertains to your tuition rates. We do not want anyone caught unaware! Be a good steward!

If you would like Communion or a visit, you must notify the Church Office. Please arrange to receive The Anointing of the Sick before a scheduled procedure by contacting the Pastor or the Parish Office. You may also request this after a daily or weekend Mass. PARISH-OWNED BOOKSTORE The “Lectio Divina Bookstore” will be open fol-lowing Saturday evening and Sunday Masses the first weekend of the Month or by appointment. For your convenience checks are now accepted (Payable to St. Anthony Church).

THE TR AD IT ION AL LAT IN M AS S (“Extraordinary Form”) will be offered each Satur-day of the year, at 9:00 am, unless announced otherwise. The format will be the “Low Mass”, in “Dialogue” (1962—congregation may join in some responses, in the “Gloria”, etc.; readings will be done out loud in Latin, and repeated in English). This Mass is known for its reverent silences, and what many see as a more effective presentation

of the Lord Jesus’ Sacrifice for our sakes. Come join us!

THE GOOD NEWS

T oday’s readings begin with a few verses from the book of Job. First, Job complains that his nights drag on endlessly. Then, worse yet, “My days

are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle; / they come to an end without hope” (Job 7:6). Not exactly encouraging, these lamentations, not when taken alone. Most of us have been there, though, and the antidote is the “good news” that Paul found so compelling that “an obligation has been imposed on me, and woe to me if I do not preach it!” (1 Corinthians 9:16). Paul felt driven to announce the gospel to as many people as possible, “to save at least some” (9:22). This good news is the mystery of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, who lifted Simon Peter’s mother-in-law from her sickbed with a mere touch of his hand. “The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons” (Mark 1:33–34)). Our woes and demons are as real as Job’s, and Jesus is our savior.

PROGRAMS AND EVENTS

BAPTISM Classes are held monthly on the first Sunday of the month, from 8:00 – 9:00 am in Classroom A. Register in the Church Office . BIBLE STUDY classes meet on Wednesdays at 6:00 pm in the gathering area of the Church. BLOOD DRIVE The next blood drive will be held Sunday, March 25, in the Terry Family Center.

C.C.D. meets on Wednesdays beginning with supper at 5:30 pm in the Terry Family Center.

CHOIR meets on Wednesday evenings for rehearsal from 7:00 - 8:30 pm in the Choir Room. If you are interested in becoming a choir member, contact Kevin Verbe in the Church Office.

CUB SCOUTS PACK 490 meets the second and fourth Monday of each month from 6:30 - 8:00 pm. CYO AND LIFE TEEN meet Sunday evenings following the 5:00 pm Mass.

GIRL SCOUTS meetings are held every Tuesday from 6:00 - 7:15 pm in the Scout Room, Classroom A or Terry Family Center.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS meet at the Knights’ Hall on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm. For more information contact Marc Weaver @ 229-2251. The Diocese of Charleston in coordination with the Galen Medical Guild invites you to the an-nual White Mass on Saturday, February 18, at 5:15 pm. PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING A BOOK TO THE PARISH LIBRARY! The Parish Library is un-dergoing a sprucing up and is in need of new books to fill in gaps and replace damaged books. Books can be donated “In Memory Of” or “In Honor Of” or “Gift Of” someone. A nameplate will be placed in each donated book. A list of needed books has been compiled and is available in the Church Of-fice. You may choose a book from the list or make a monetary donation and let us choose for you. Eventually we will have a sign-out procedure so that books may be borrowed.

LAS BUENAS NOTICIAS

L as lecturas de hoy co-

mienzan con unos versos del libro de Job. En primer lugar, Job se queja de que sus noches se alargan indefinidamente. Y luego, aún peor, “Mis días corren más aprisa que una lanzadera y se consumen sin espe-ranza” (Job 7:6). No son precisamente alenta-doras estas lamentaciones, no cuando se exa-minan por separado. La mayoría de nosotros ha estado allí, sin embargo, y el antídoto es la “buena noticia” que Pablo encontró tan convincente que sentía que predicarla “era su obligación. ¡Ay de mí, si no anuncio el Evangelio!” (1 Corintios 9:16). Pa-blo se sentía impulsado a anunciar el Evangelio a tantos como fuera posible, “para ganarlos a todos” (9:22). Esta buena noticia era que el misterio de la vida, muerte y Resurrección de Jesucris-to, que levantó a la suegra de Simón Pedro de su lecho de enferma con un simple toque de su mano. “Todo el pueblo se apiñó junto a la puerta. Curó a muchos enfermos de diversos males y expulsó a muchos demonios” (Marcos 1:33–34). Nuestros males y demonios son tan reales como los de Job, y Jesús es nuestro salvador.
