I am living proof.

Pete Saltonstall Miracle Man

To read more of Pete’s story, visitWellingtonLivingProof.com

I was a passenger in my wife’s car when my heart stopped and I lost consciousness. Fortunately, my wife didn’t miss a beat. She drove me straight to the ER at Wellington Regional.

Her quick thinking and the fast response I received at the hospital saved my life. And the sophisticated cardiac treatments the doctors gave me in surgery prevented any disabling effects to my brain and other organs. Sadly, nine out of ten people who experience sudden cardiac arrest die, but not me. I’ve got a lot more living to do! I am living proof that Wellington Regional is the right choice for emergency and cardiac care.

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

One thing for certain is that we will always face change. Westrive so hard to create a life we desire and then realize we mustlet go of the old to make room for the new. You’ve heard thesaying, “Two things can’t occupy the same space.” Well, I havejust experienced these growing pains. I have been a health coach since 2007. The first year waswonderful. I know I don’t have to tell you what 2008 was like. Then in 2009 I relocated to Florida and left what clients I had, upnorth. Ah, the pain of starting over! Writing has been a very bigpart of the rebuilding. I have written a cookbook, workbook and ofcourse you have seen me here as the Chief Editor for Banzai. Iam happy to say my business has recently exploded. Now that Ihave added catering on top of my cooking classes I do not havetime to write anymore. I am sure my book writing coach woulddisagree, but meeting deadlines for any publication is not feasible. It really has been an honor to share this time with you, ourdedicated readers. I have met the most wonderful people andmade some lifelong friendships along the way. I also want topublicly express my gratitude to Meric the publisher for giving methe opportunity. Although, Chief Editor is a “job” more than I cancurrently handle, I am sure you will see me from time to time as acontributing editor and at the many wellness events in the area. So I must bid you adieu for now. Please continue supporting ouramazing advertisers and enjoy reading our helpful articles. Thankyou for your interest and support.

PILLARS TO A LONG LIFE: Primary Food, Movement, Mental Management, and Clean Space

ife span has almost doubled in theUSA in one century. Many of ushave seen our older friends or family

having a longer life, but not necessarily a betterquality life. We naturally want to have a goldentime in our golden years.

There are many diets and many guesses onhow to live longer and better. What we do knowseems to be a bit of common sense and anobservation of centurions.

Primary foods are whole complete foodsunprocessed and unmodified. For thousands ofyears our bodies knew what to do with them.Simply having half your plate filled with darkgreen vegetables daily can do wonders for yourdigestion, sleep, energy, and bowel movements.Almost every body feels better after two weeksof this. Switching from processed foods to watercan help your body run the way it was designed. There are studies that show simply removingdiet soda can help you lose weight.

Moving water does not become stagnant nordoes the human body. Our body has the need tomove regularly. Cultures that walk live longer.keeping the body moving daily helps regulateour bowels, mind, lymph, lungs and heart. Pick

a movement you like and live longer. Myhealthiest older patients are always walkers.

The most stressed patients I have do not thinkthey are stressed. It has become their norm tobe in a constant state of tension. We are simplymore productive, healthy and happy if wemanage our mental state. If meditation works foryou, that is great. I have many patients come inand say that meditation does not work for them.It almost seems that they are going to the gymfor the first time in preparation to move theirentire house the next day. Meditation needs tobe practiced before hand so we have it when weneed it. For many people, walking, swimming, and alone time can be very relieving. There isnothing quite like a walk on the beach. Thereare studies that show stress relief, better energyand, better sleep from simply standing barefootoutside everyday! Stress makes everythingworse, so get rid of it!

I had an instructor come in with a weight andscales. She would talk about an environmentalinfluence, poor food, lack of exercise and eachtime she mentioned something throughout thelecture she place a candy on one side of thescale. Eventually, the scale tipped and went out ofbalance. It is the same with your body, which you

only get one. Enough poor decisions, and youeventually tip your health in the wrong direction. But here is the good news: living in the mannerour body was designed to run will actually makeyou feel better in every way. Don’t add a list ofrules. Just add good stuff: clean food, goodwater, fun movement in a space you want to be.

Back to School Eye Exams: When 20/20 doesn’t Cut It

far-SightednessLet’s start with two terms that are commonly used and confused:Near-sighted and Far-sighted. Near-sighted means the vision isgenerally better at near than it is at far. Far-sighted means the visionis generally better at far than it is at near.Children who are near-sighted are easily spotted at a visionscreening. They’re unable to see the eye chart posted across theroom. But what about the children who are far-sighted? Could theypass a vision screening and read the 20/20 line at a distance?Absolutely, and they most often do, fooling the most astute physicianand attentive parents. Children (and adults) with far-sightedness can read the bottom line ofan eye chart at a distance, and can often read small lines of text whentested, but the muscles in their eyes are doing a lot of work toaccomplish this. Imagine yourself sitting at a desk, for an 8-hourworkday, and the entire time you’re working, you are holding a 10 lb.weight in your right hand. Certainly, by the end of the day, your armwould be achy and tired, your attention would wane, and eventually, you would have to set the weight down, right? This is exactly whathappens to the muscles in the eyes responsible for bringing visioninto focus. In a child with far-sightedness, the muscles in the eyestire, relax, and the eyes lose focus after prolonged reading and evendistance activities in the classroom. Now imagine you’re 9 years old,and you’re trying to read a chapter in your science book and thenanswer questions about what you read. All the while, the words onthe page are moving, going in and out of focus, and you feel sleepy. How frustrating! But this is how everyone else sees right?Binocular VisionAnd then there are the other muscles in the eyes, the ones thatcontrol eye movements, ensuring that both eyes are pointed in thesame direction. You would notice if one of your child’s eyes wasturned significantly inward or outward, but you wouldn’t notice if botheyes were not directed precisely at the same letter in a word. Thistype of misalignment can make reading and homework extremelychallenging. Eye HealthWhat about that dilated eye exam is so important? The eye has bloodvessels in it, just as does every other part of the body. However, inevery other part in the body, skin or other tissue covers those vessels;in the eye, they’re naked! Diabetes, elevated cholesterol, blooddisorders, and vascular anomalies are all visible in the eye. Allergyand autoimmune conditions can also manifest in the eyes. There aremany sight-threatening conditions that can easily be spotted in thatfirst full eye exam.In the absence of symptoms, and even in the case of children whopass a vision screening, all children should have their first full eyeexam by age 5, and sooner should parents suspect a problem.School performance, self-confidence, personality and overall behaviorcan all be affected by visual disorders.

It’s that time of year again. Back-To-School-Physicals! You’re at thePediatrician’s office, and your childjust read the smallest line on the eyechart and passed the visionscreening. So his vision is normaland he doesn’t need glasses right? Not necessarily…Here are some reasons why a visionscreening is not enough when itcomes to safeguarding the health ofyour child’s eyes and normal visualfunction.

Remember this number -> 96. It will make senseat the end.I went to meet a friend and her husband thismorning. I had not met her husband before. Heworks in Maryland. He has diabetes and has totake insulin shots daily. He has been drinking theBoresha coffee and tea for 5 months. Herecently got a call from his doctor asking why hehasn't been filling his insulin prescription asoften. He has been able to go from 40 units ofinsulin twice a day to only 18 units! Over a 50%reduction! He said that he is saving $60 permonth on medication. He is also saving $300 amonth that he was spending on Starbuckscoffee. Plus, he said he went one day without theBoresha coffee and felt horrible. He has amazingenergy and will not go one day without Boresha. Then he tells me about his 16 year old nephewwith Type1 Diabetes. He weighed 250 and hadan A1C level of 9. At that age with those levelsthere is a most certain reduced lifespan. He hasbeen drinking the coffee and tea and in 3 months

s a real estate agent, sometimes it feels like you always have to be on the go, always working, always available, always doing

something, anything because for all you know there’s someone elseout there burning the midnight oil. What’s the worst that could happen to someone who’s always on thego? Certainly, they make a lot of money, right? They’re outperformingand outselling everyone else in the office, right? So what happenswhen that candle you’ve been burning at both ends finally runs out?Well, it burns out.One of the first casualties of burnout isthe passion and enjoyment for what youexhausted yourself on, real estate in ourcase. Without realizing it little by littleour efforts become less and lesseffective. We all know a miserable andtired agent is one not listing and sellingproperties. So how do you go about preventing areal estate burnout? Here’s a list of suggestions.

1. Systematize every aspect of your business. Without systemsthere would never be enough time to get it all done. Give yourself theability to work more efficiently! Systems will allow you to improvecommunication with every segment of your business. This should bepriority #1.2. Reclaim a sense of balance in your life. Dedicate time to bespent with family, friends, and to enjoy a personal life. That’s whatwe’re working for in the first place, right? To have the ability andfreedom to enjoy our lives!3. Create a daily work schedule for yourself. For many agents thisprovides some needed discipline to get tasks done and to know atwhat time their work day starts and ends. Without a well-definedschedule you may feel guilty about spending time away from work. This guilt drives many back to the office. Without a schedule balancewould be impossible for many!4. Schedule a daily workout in your daily plan. Exercise is a greatsource of energy and mental refreshment. Without health there couldbe no wealth!5. Delegate as many of your responsibilities as you can. Hire anassistant or a transaction coordinator such as myself. You can't do itall yourself nor should you.6. Prioritize your daily tasks. Make sure that the most important anddifficult ones are completed first every day.7. Eliminate time-wasting chores. See how much you can purge fromyour daily activities. Replace wasteful actions with productive tasks.8. Make building your individual brand recognition a priority. Bybeing the most recognized agent in the area, clients will seek yourservices and you can spend less time chasing new customers.8. Develop a system to anticipate problems before theymaterialize. A problem resolved in its infancy saves hours of solving amuch bigger crisis later on.10. Set aside an hour a day to work on your business not in yourbusiness. Analyze and improve your business plan and systems.

It might take some time to implement these changes into yourbusiness. When some are taken, I suspect that these changes will notonly allow you to enjoy your life, they will also dramatically improveyour production!

AREALTOR BURNOUT

irst and foremost, beware of "Credit repair clinics" that claimthey can remove negative information from your credit file.

These claims are often false , and sometimes illegal. The truth it takespatience and discipline to re-establish credit. And, you can accomplishthis on your own without enlisting the help of others and spendingmoney that you don't have. . keep in mind, when making a creditdecision, a bank utilizes the "Five C's" that are the basic componentsof credit analysis: Character, Capacity, Capital, Conditions, andCollateral. Lenders utilize these components to determine the creditworthiness of potential borrowers. The credit core of “Character” iswillingness to pay. While good credit is one of the C's banks looks forwhen evaluating loan requests, unfavorable credit is rarely negotiable, unless negative or inaccurate information is disputed and resolved.Frankly, it is one of the most challenging C's to establish!Below are some tips( top 5 in my book) to help you improve yourscore and afford you the opportunity to secure a loan with a financialinstitution:1- Pay your bills on time-If you are struggling, call and arrange for a

payment plan.2- Pay down your balances on credit cards(revolving)-It will boost

your score substantially3- Do not close old/unused accounts- This will lower your credit score.4- Do not max out your credit cards-keep your balances below 30%

of your credit limit 5- Get a secured credit card-This can improve your score

Last but not least: When was the last time you checked your credit?Inspect and Correct if needed. You may obtain a free credit report at:http://www.annualcreditreport.com/. Make sure you examine the 3credit reporting agencies: Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian. Finally,Think like a Lender!Do you need help with your writing? No time to say the right words in the right key? Poor grammar skills?Tired of paying high fees? Résumés, cover letters, business andpersonal letters, marketing letters, bios, letters of recommendation, invitations, proof-reading, editing and translation.
