Changeisintheair:anewyear,anewboardofdirectors,anewNatureCenterexecutivedirector,andnewdirectionsforbothourchapterandourNatureCenter. WemadegreatuseofourNatureCenterlease,notjustasaNatureCenterbutalsoasadestinationandmeetinglocation:forboardmeetings,gatheringsliketheDawnChorus,socialeventsandclasses.Thisishowitwasmeanttobe. Financially,despitebleakglobaleconomics,2011wasaverygoodyearforEvergreenAudubonthankstofocusedfundraisingandgrant-writingefforts,butprimarilyduetoverygenerousdonationsfromwithinourmembership. OurproceedssubstantiallyexceededourexpensesforthefirsttimesinceweopenedtheNatureCenter.So,nowwehaveshownthatwecanadequatelysupporttheEvergreenNatureCenterwhilewefurtherestablishsteadylong-termfundingforthissubstantialcommunityenterprise. Onerecentsetback:OurNatureCenterexecutivedirector,AlysonDuf-fey,tookalocal,full-timejobinBoulderworkingfortheWildFoundation.That,ofcourse,soundslikeagreatopportunity. Alyisagiftedenvironmentaleducatorandorganizer.Alywewillmissyou.BestofluckfromtheEvergreenAudubon. Toourverygoodfortune,oursecond-rankedcandidateinourspringsearch,VanessaHayes,wasstillinterestedintheENCexecutivedirectorposition. Afterbriefboarddeliberations,weofferedtheopeningtoVanessa,andsheagreedtostartinJanuary!We’llfeatureVanessainthenextDippernewsletter.Inthemeantime,pleasehelpuswelcomehertoEvergreenAudubon. Finally,thisismylastPresident’sMessagetothemembership.Ihavebeenhonoredandhumbledbyyourtime,generosity,humor,supportandadvice,aswellasbyyourpatiencewithme.
