picture

1. Service to whom and in what context?

2. Oriented- Concerned with which group of stakeholders, how to address their

concerns and when and in what timelines those concerns can be addressed?

3. Architecture- Services should be delivered in what style and why that style

and where and in what situations that style should be used and last but not the

least how to justify the credibility of given style.

Meaning of SOA in Banking

Let’s take a banking context and answer above questions

Service to Bank’s internal and external customers and for

internal it’s easiness for a bank employee to handle banking

processes to serve customer and for external it is customer

utilizing banking services in an effective and efficient way

Oriented – Understand the banking events in day to day

jobs of a bank employee as well as customer and when an

event occurs the concern should be addressed with right

process, backed by right solution targeting the right service.

Architecture – Style of working collaboratively in both

ways, one is collaboration between employees and other is

collaboration between employees and customers. Style is

used when there is a requirement to interact via various

channels and there is a dependency to make channels a

single point of contact for gathering information from

various bank departments and this style is incorporated

when there is a disconnect between employees of a bank as

well as customer disconnect with the bank and when

the bank is not able to provide the right service at the right

time in the right situation.

What I need to understand for serving Banking Customer with a

Unique Style

Following are key value additions when we move towards service oriented

architecture

• A style identifies you as a unique entity for any purpose and in business world

and provides networking opportunities to create a win-win situation between

bank and its customers.

• Leadership in development of banking capabilities and Innovate services to

achieve and improve service levels

• Decide on internal and external structure of a bank so that individual silo can

provide a unique service

• Providing an ontology to make a knowledge based bank and share that with its

customers in a unique way

Where to Use IT for SOA

Information technology plays and important role in today’s banking scenario

but the question is where, when, why and how to use information technology

to provide better services the customers as well as an ease to employees to

serve them.

As mentioned above SOA provides networking opportunities to create a win-

win situation and in IT scenario it is networking with business logic modules

on other IT systems in a Bank So identify business purpose in each and every

IT application deployed in a Bank, understand how that logic can be composed

to invent a service for a higher purpose say if bank is providing insurance

service in that case bank’s insurance , customer management and financial

accounting applications should create a network to provide information

associated with a policy in terms of its purpose, benefits and what payments

are due in the near future. I can call it as policy service networking with three

applications.

Need is to rationalize and optimize the business logic deployed on a sea of

applications and understand whether it is really serving the business purpose.

BPM and integration solutions using Web services plays a key role in terms of

extracting business information and revamp and renovate the current IT

Landscape

So when I talk about revamp it is more than an assistance. This is to address

what service is needed, when that service is provided and after utilizing that

service customer remembers the style in which service was provided.

Customer tries to reuse your service again and again and last but not the least

he knows now where he got that service and how he can access that service

again. I have a robust Service landscape to assist customer with people,

processes and systems to provide him right service at the right time via right

channels.

So plan for a unique Banking style, decide on ways and means to provide

service and in today’s digital world link it to Information Technology

foundations and use it to get down to the nitty-gritty of a banking

capability and extract right information to provide a comprehensive,

specialized and ready to customize banking services.
