• A commercial bank is a bank is a financial institution whose primary activity is to

act as a payment agent for customers and to borrow and lend money

• A Commercial bank raises funds:

• by collecting deposits from businesses and consumers

• via checkable deposits, savings deposits, and time (or term) deposits

• It makes loans to businesses and consumers available.

• It also buys corporate bonds and government bonds

• Its primary liabilities are deposits
