“Banks are facing growing headwinds including increased regulation and compliance, low interest rates impacting growth, and the sustainability of property prices, particularly in the major cities. At the same time, customer expectations are higher than ever, requiring us as lenders and advisers to innovate and evolve to meet the demands of the market and our clients.”

Matt Byrnes, National Head of Restructuring Advisory

The 2017 edition of the BBC is designed to tackle some of the key challenges and opportunities for bankers and their customers over the next 12 months.

This year the focus is on how to meet legal and regulatory changes, to identify opportunities and remain engaged with customers in a challenging and dynamic market.

Our guest speaker, to be confirmed shortly, will challenge your thinking on issues relevant to today’s market.

You will hear directly from customers and experience first-hand what is required to address the complexities of a growing business.

Our workout specialists will use case studies and war stories to provide a framework for our discussion on the key issues facing lenders in the current banking environment, including the impact of major law reforms on company restructuring, and the emergence of the largely unregulated shadow banking sector.

Our legal partners, Henry Davis York partnering with Norton Rose Fulbright, will also provide a valuable legal and commercial perspective based on real life examples of relevant issues they are seeing in the market.

We will compliment this industry focus with a market update from our sponsor CBRE, focusing on trends we can expect to see in each local market over the coming year.

We are excited to announce that the Grant Thornton Bankers’ Boot Camp (BBC) will continue in October 2017 with half day conferences in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

A key attraction once again is the opportunity to network with your peers from the other major banks and lending institutions. We will be inviting a cross section of bankers across all major institutions from front end, credit and asset management ensuring a spread of thoughts and ideas. In addition to the interactive workshop sessions, the opportunity to network and share ideas will be available throughout the afternoon and at drinks and canapés following the close of the day’s formal sessions.

We look forward to you joining us at the Bankers’ Boot Camp 2017...!

Safe harbour reformsNew law reform in 2017 will dramatically change the way we undertake corporate workouts and restructurings in Australia. Or will they? Our experts will discuss the biggest law reform in restructuring for decades, using a case study to illustrate how the changes will play out and the likely impact on lenders.

Property market updateThe property market continues to underpin our economy. Specialists from CBRE will share their thoughts on current and future issues in your local market, including areas such as completion rates and valuations on residential develop-ments, risks of offshore investors defaulting, the emergence of second tier property financiers, and the drive to convert commercial to residential in our major cities.

Shadow banking & the role of alternate lenders The crackdown on banks has led to an increase in potentially risky lending by non-bank lenders in property and other sectors.

Using an interactive panel format, comprising leaders from the major banks, non-bank lenders and regulators, we will tackle head on the key issues for the Australian economy as a result of increasing bank regulation.

A customer’s taleIn a one on one interview, we will hear in person from a real customer, including their journey, how they are innovating to meet a changing market, what has worked and what hasn’t in their business. We will also consider the relationship with their advisor and bankers, including what customers look for in their business partners in an increasingly competitive market. In the last couple of years, our guests have included Swisse Multivitamin, Scenic World, and Altus Group.

Adding value to our clients An update on how the Grant Thornton team are thinking differently in engaging with our clients, brining innovative ideas to maximise customer value through Working Capital Optimisation, 6 Box Model, CEO & CFO Room.

Keynote speaker Our speaker will challenge your thinking on issues relevant to today’s market.
