CHRISTMAS EVE WORSHIP

Family Service at 6 PM

This kid-friendly service will include a puppet show featuring the manger animals, entitled “The Christ-mas Mouse”. We will hear the Christmas story told and sing familiar Christmas carols. Afterwards we’ll enjoy cookies and cocoa.

Candlelight Service at 9 PM

Join us for a traditional Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. We will hear the Nativity story narrated

and sing Christmas hymns and carols. The choir will offer several anthems, and we will conclude our

worship with candlelight and “Silent Night”.

PAGE 2

Advent Sermon Series: “Calm and Bright—200 Years of Silent Night”

This year is the 200th anniversary of the debut of "Silent Night, Holy Night." This hymn has become the best-loved worship moment of many Christians. Something mystical occurs as we light our candles and sing the hope of "all is calm, all is bright" – peace and light for the world. This worship series will celebrate the carol's message over the four Sundays of Advent and highlight its call for our lives that can guide us all year long.

Jan 26 to Feb 9. Anyone who would like to donate to this trip or donate funds to the

hospital there can send a check to the church office or drop your check in the mail or

“Calm and Bright”

Advent Projects

This Advent season we are inviting small groups, families, and individuals to build “blessing bags” that bring hope, light, love, joy, and peace into our community. These make great inter-generational projects. Or you could make this an individual spiritual practice during Advent by doing a project yourself. Some suggested kits include:

First Responder Care Packages—For police officers, firefighters, and EMTs

Manna Bags—For folks experiencing homelessness

United Methodist Committee on Relief Supply Kits—Cleaning, hygiene, or school kits

Cancer Care Kits—For those in treatment for cancer

Hospital Care Kits—For families staying in the hospital during the holiday season

Cards for Hospitalized Children—For kids getting medical treatment during the holidays

Project Linus No-Sew Blankets – For children who are seriously ill or traumatized, or oth-erwise in need.

For more information, or instructions on building blessing bags, you can pick up a handout in the church lobby, or call the church office, or visit the church website at www.fumcbangor.org/advent-small-group-project

Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. He doesn’t grow tired or weary. His understanding is beyond human reach, giving power to the tired and reviving the exhausted. Youths will become tired and weary, young men will certainly stumble; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength; they will fly up on wings like eagles; they will run and not be tired; they will walk

and not be weary. Isaiah 40: 28-30 (Common English Bible)

Into your hands Heavenly Father we entrust these people

who are in need of your healing touch, knowledge of

your presence, and your comfort.

Sustain them in good days and bad. Help them to feel

your loving presence with them during every difficulty,

for you are always there ahead of any circumstance.

Watch over all those who are in need. Help them to feel

that you are always near them and know that all they

need do is look to YOU for comfort and for strength.

In Your loving name we pray. Amen
