Bob Reiter (Muay Thaimes Magazine) & Snake Blocker, New York

Robert Reiter’s Corner: Robert & Snake had a conversation on the topic of “Does the Federal/U.S. Supreme Court Codes/Regulations regarding knife length overrule the state and/or local Codes/Regulations that put restriction on them?” It seems to be another one of the gray areas. Here’s Bob, comments: “Very few outside of the legal profession understand how our government is organized. It gets hopelessly complicated with more than 50 sovereign states plus municipalities and what not. Add to that the dynamics of a living law that changes continuously. I still haven't figured out, for example, whether a homosexual marriage where legal has to be recognized where it's not. This is actually one of the gray areas of the

Page 25: BAMA NEWS - Snake Blockersnakeblocker.com/article11.pdfMarc Halleck - Filipino Knife W. Hock Hochheim - Knife Combatives and knife ground fighting Snake Blocker - Apache Knife Fighting

'Supremacy Clause'. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled way back when folks began flocking to Nevada for quickie marriages and divorces that they had to be recognized everywhere, otherwise one state would be able to nullify the laws of another -- i.e., Nevada. It makes sense say in criminal convictions, but who foresaw homosexual marriages? While I'm all for 'love conquers all', I seriously wonder whether those so intent on legitimizing their romantic commitments truly appreciate the downside of marriage when it comes to divorce. Virtually anyone who's been through a divorce has had occasion to regret going there in the first place. Without kids, it doesn't do well on the pain vs. prize scale.” [And this is just an example of many of the “gray areas” such as knife length which varies per state and/or county/city, but has no limits according to Federal Codes]. Snake Blocker continues his courses with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide (ERAU). He received 2 “A”s and 2 “B”s last semester. Everyone should always continue their education. “Should it cost you all you have…gain wisdom.” – King Solomon, 3rd King of Israel (Photos below of Snake with some of the ERAU students and teachers):

Always read the signs! (Thanks for the forward Butch).

Darrell "Shifty" Powers (Thanks for the forward Dwight McLemore) Shifty volunteered for the airborne in WWII and served with Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st Airborne Infantry. If you've seen Band of Brothers on HBO or the History Channel, you know Shifty. His character appears in all 10 episodes, and Shifty himself is interviewed in several of them. I met Shifty in the Philadelphia airport several years ago. I didn't know who he was at the time. I just saw an elderly gentleman having trouble reading his ticket. I offered to help, assured him that he was at the right gate, and noticed the "Screaming Eagle", the symbol of the 101st Airborne, on his hat. Making conversation, I asked him if he'd been in the 101st Airborne or if his son was serving. He said quietly that he had been in the 101st. I thanked him for his service, and then asked him when he served, and how many jumps he made. Quietly and humbly, he said "Well, I guess I signed up in 1941 or so, and was in until

Page 38: BAMA NEWS - Snake Blockersnakeblocker.com/article11.pdfMarc Halleck - Filipino Knife W. Hock Hochheim - Knife Combatives and knife ground fighting Snake Blocker - Apache Knife Fighting

sometime in 1945 . . .” at which point my heart skipped. At that point, again, very humbly, he said "I made the 5 training jumps at Toccoa, and then jumped into Normandy . . . . Do you know where Normandy is?" At this point my heart stopped. I told him yes, I know exactly where Normandy was, and I know what D-Day was. At that point he said "I also made a second jump into Holland, into Arnhem." I was standing with a genuine war hero . . . . And then I realized that it was June, just after the anniversary of D-Day. I asked Shifty if he was on his way back from France, and he said "Yes. And it's real sad because these days so few of the guys are left, and those that are, lots of them can't make the trip." My heart was in my throat and I didn't know what to say. I helped Shifty get onto the plane and then realized he was back in Coach, while I was in First Class. I sent the flight attendant back to get him and said that I wanted to switch seats. When Shifty came forward, I got up out of the seat and told him I wanted him to have it, that I'd take his in coach. He said "No, son, you enjoy that seat. Just knowing that there are still some who remember what we did and still care is enough to make an old man very happy." His eyes were filling up as he said it. And mine are brimming up now as I write this. Shifty died on June 17 after fighting cancer. There was no parade. No big event in Staples Center. No wall to wall back to back 24x7 news coverage., ala MJ No weeping fans on television Rest in peace, Shifty. "A nation without heroes is nothing."

CABBIE SPRAYS DEODORANT TO DISARM ATTACKER

IL Elgin- Police in suburban Chicago say a taxi driver who didn’t have mace handy when he was attacked by a knife-wielding passenger instead disarmed the man with a can of aerosol deodorant. Elgin deputy police Chief Jeff Swoboda says the 51-year-old cabbie picked up the male passenger outside a casino. Swoboda said the driver grew suspicious when the man offered several destinations, so he surreptitiously placed the small can of deodorant between his legs. Shortly afterward, the passenger put a knife to the driver’s neck and demanded money. The cabbie sprayed the deodorant in the man’s eyes, causing him to drop the knife. Swoboda says the man punched the driver before fleeing but didn’t seriously injure him.

Woodson says the 38-year-old Garden Grove woman confessed to the stabbing and suicide attempt. A motive for the attack is under investigation.

POLICE SEARCHING FOR MAN WHO STABBED 2 WOMEN

WA Seattle – Two women were stabbed while they slept in their home, rattling residents of the south Seattle neighborhood because the assailant, who remained on the loose, may have chosen the victims at random. Police distributed fliers and called a neighborhood meeting to talk about the crime that left one woman dead and the other seriously wounded. “He considered very, very dangerous. This is a man who clearly has evil intent, again very predatory in nature with the attack, and we need to get him off the street,” Assistant Police Chief Nicholas Metz said. A manhunt for a man in his late 20s or early 30s was under way. The 40-year-old woman who survived described him as slim but muscular, about 6 feet tall and 160 pounds, with a thin mustache. A 37-year-old woman died at the scene and the

other woman was released after being treated for multiple stab wounds. Neighbors reported seeing the two women run screaming from the house while the attacker fled on foot. Neighbors said the women planned to marry. Metz said police had not established a motive for the attack and had not ruled out a sex or hate crime.

SUSPECT IN KILLING SHOULD HAVE HAD THREE STRIKES

CA Los Angeles – A parolee accused of killing 17-year-old Lily Burk in July could have been serving a lengthy prison sentence instead of roaming the streets of Los Angeles but for a clerical error that downplayed his criminal record, according to interviews and court documents. Because of error, authorities did not know that Charles Samuel was eligible to be prosecuted under California’s tough “three strikes” law when he was arrested for and convicted of burglary in San Bernardino County in 1997. Burk never returned home after running an errand for her mother at Southwestern Law School west of downtown. Her body was discovered the next morning in her Volvo in a downtown parking lot. Her head had been beaten and her neck slashed.

MURDER TRIAL OF U.S STUDENT IN ITALY NEARS END

PERUGIA, ITALY – An American student accused of murdering her British roommate in Italy had a growing hatred for the victim and killing her in retaliation during a drug-fueled sex game, a prosecutor said Friday in closing arguments at her trial. Lead prosecutor Giuliano Mignini argued that Amanda Knox, together with her ex-boyfriend and co-defendant Rafael Sollecito and a third man convicted in a separate trial last year, killed Meredith Kercher under “the fumes of drugs and possibly alcohol” and then tried to cover up their crime by staging a burglary. Knox, of Seattle, wanted to get back at Kercher for saying she was not clean and for calling her promiscuous, Mignini said. “Amanda had the chance to retaliate against a girl who was serious quiet,” Mignini said. “She had harbored hatred for Meredith, and that was the time when it could explode. The time had come to take revenge on that smirk girl.” He said Knox, Sollecito and Ivory Coast citizen Rudy Hermann Guede met at the apartment where Kercher was killed on Nov.1, 2007, shortly before the slaying, likely to settle some drug issues with Guede, who was known in Perugia for dealing drugs. Kercher’s body was found in a pool of blood the next day, her throat slit. Prosecutors allege that Kercher was killed during what began as a sex game, with Sollecito holding her by the shoulders from behind while Knox touched her with the point of a knife. They say Guede tried to sexually assault Kercher, and then Knox fatally stabbed her in the throat. Knox and Sollecito are charged with murder and sexual violence in 2007 killing in the central Italian town of Perugia. They deny wrongdoing. Guede was sentenced to 30 years in prison last year on the same charges. He also denies wrongdoing and is appealing his conviction. Knox has denied having major problems with Kercher and has said in the past she was shocked at the death of a woman she considered a friend. Prosecutors were expected to formally make their sentencing requests to the eight-member jury Saturday, while a verdict is expected in early December.

ANSBACH, Germany – An 18-year-old student armed with an ax and knives lobbed Molotov cocktails at his high school in southern Germany on Thursday, wounding eight students and a teacher before he was shot and arrested by police. The teenager entered the Carolinum High School in the Bavarian town of Ansbach on Thursday morning and threw one Molotov cocktail before police were alerted and arrived at the scene, said Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann. Police smelled smoke when they arrived at the school, Hermann said. They were confronted by the ax-wielding teen, who had thrown a second Molotov cocktail that apparently failed to detonate. “Since the attacker threatened to use his weapons against the police, the officers opened fire,” Herrmann said, adding that the attacker, who was not identified, was wounded and in critical condition. Udo Dreher, the chief police officer at the scene, said teen was shot five times, but was not in life threatening condition. Two teenage girls were seriously injured by the attacker one suffering burns and the other head injuries, said Dreher. It was not clear whether the second girl was attacked with the ax or a knife. Authorities did not say how the seven people who suffered light injuries – six students and a teacher – had been attacked. Dreher said the assailant started his rampage armed with three Molotov cocktails, the ax and two knives. He was arrested 11 minutes after police were called. Authorities said the teen had no police record and it was not immediately clear what his motive might have been. Officials said there was no indication that he had said anything during the attack. Fire service official Horst Settler said no major fires broke out in the school and its roughly 700 students were evacuated and taken to a nearby building. Prosecutor Gudrun Lehnberger said the 18-year-old male student at the school was being held on suspicion of attempted murder. Texas mom suspected of beheading infant son By Michelle Roberts & Paul J. Weber The Associated Press SAN ANTONIO – Otty Sanchez, a schizophrenic with a history of hospitalizations, refused to take medication for her postpartum depression, her son’s father said. She’d been going to regular counseling and had been briefly hospitalized since the boy was born. But the 33-year-old woman’s troubles only became apparent to authorities when they found her before dawn Sunday, in a house where she had access to samurai swords, screaming that she killed her baby. Her 3-week-old son was decapitated and dismembered in a scene so gruesome police were left shaken. “Maybe we missed” warning signs, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said. “I don’t know.” San Antonio police released a four-minute 911 call Wednesday that ends with the mother crying, “I love him. I didn’t mean to do it. He told me to,” while her sister pleads with the 911 operator for an ambulance to come to the house. Sanchez is charged with capital murder and being held on $1 million bond. Authorities said Sanchez attempted suicide after butchering her newborn son, Scott Wesley Buchholz-Sanchez, with a steak knife and two swords while her sister and two nieces, ages 5 and 7 slept in another room. Scott W. Buchholz, the infant’s father, said although his girlfriend had postpartum depression and only recently told him she was schizophrenic, she didn’t appear unstable. He wants prosecutors to pursue the death penalty. “She killed my son. She should burn in hell,” Buchholz, 33, said.

Soda can leads to sword assault TX Bryan – An apparent fight over a soda can led to assault charges after a Bryan man allegedly used a sword to cut two of his roommates. Michael Angel Zamago was in the Brazos County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon related to family violence. A police report indicates Zamago was upset to find a soda can in his room, thinking someone entered without permission. Zamago allegedly used the sword to poke holes in a closed door to a room where the pair fled. One roommate has a cut under his right armpit. The other suffered a cut in the shoulder area. Police: Teen stabs mom in back while hugging her TX Grapevine – Police say a 15-year-old Texas boy stabbed his mother in the back with a 6 inch kitchen knife while pretending to hug her after an argument. Police arrested the teen in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Grapevine about three hours after his mother called police. Authorities say the woman was treated at a Dallas hospital for a non-life-threatening wound. Bail set at $10 million for stabbing suspect WA Seattle – A judge set bail at $10 million for a man accused of breaking into a south Seattle home and stabbing two women, one fatally. Fingerprints and bodily fluids tied Isaiah M.K. Kalebu, a 23-year-old man with a history of mental illness, to the attack, police said. Investigators said Kalebu crawled through an open window at the home in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood and attacked Teresa Butz, 39, and her 36-year-old partner. He stabbed both women, Seattle police officer Dana Duffy said. Butz died after fleeing through a bathroom window and running into the street, naked and covered in blood. 2 plead not guilty in meat cleaver attack NY White Plains – A New Yorker denied charges that he nearly cut off a businessman’s hand with a meat cleaver while urging him to settle a $50,000 debt. Christopher Calise of Yonkers and a co-defendant pleaded not guilty to felony assault. The June incident occurred outside a Westchester County social club. Maurice Mann of Fort Lee, N.J., is accused of holding the victim. His lawyer says Mann didn’t know about the cleaver, and was trying to protect Calise from the businessman. New Rochelle police said they stopped the men, who had blood on their faces and clothes, and found the cleaver in their car. The club owner, who did not report the incident, was on probation for promoting gambling. Student stabbed to death in school fight FL Miami – One student stabbed another to death during a fight in a courtyard at a suburban high school, authorities said. School officials identified the victim as 17-year-old sophomore Juan Carlos Rivera. Police identified the attacker as 17-year-old Andy Jesus Rodriguez, who was taken into custody immediately after the stabbing at Coral Gables Senior High School. He was charged with second-degree murder, according to an arrest affidavit. School Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said a fight happened sometime after 9 a.m. as students moved from first- to second-period classes. HE could not say what the two students were arguing about how many others saw the stabbing.

Priest able to forgive after brutal stabbing TX Sinton – Kicked, beaten and stabbed nearly 20 times. Last rites twice in a single day. Still the Rev. Shaji Varghese harbors no anger toward his attacker. David Rodriguez approached Varghese, 42, following Mass asking him to hear his confession. Minutes later, Varghese was found about 100 yards from the side doorway of the church soaked in his own blood. Rodriguez was arrested about an hour later. “I don’t take this incident as something very bad because this incident taught me so many things,” Varghese said. “It made my vocation stronger, my loyalty toward God stronger. I was made surer that my God is such a caring one. We are not perfect. It made me know that God answers to the prayers and God supports.”
