    BALL MONITOR

Keeping the correct number and size of cleaning balls in condenser tubes isessential for efficient power plant maintenance. As a leader in Condenser TubeCleaning Systems, TECHNOS has developed tools to guarantee betterfunctioning of equipment.

    CUSTOMER BENEFITS

    Increase condenser safety

Guarantee circulation of good balls in

    the system

Records the state of the system to

    guarantee performance of the

    condenser

Life time extension of the condenser

    Prevent waste of usable balls

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN BALLS ARE NOT

    MONITORED ?

Leaving worn-out balls in circulation can have COSTLY

    CONSEQUENCES: LOSS OF CONDENSER EFFICIENCY,

and therefore LOSS OF PRODUCTION and eventually

leading to the potential need to perform risky mechanical

or chemical cleaning on dirty tubes. Operators

periodically check the number and diameter of the

balls in circulation. However, relying on a manual

sieve with calibrated holes to identify worn-out

material is time consuming and often leads operators

to renew the complete ball load at routine intervals.

This can obviously lead to excessive ball consumption

    and its associated costs.

HOW CAN THE BALL MONITOR HELP YOU ?

The TECHNOS Ball Monitor CONTINUOUSLY SORTS

AND REMOVES undersized balls and constantly monitors

the ball count to assure continuous cleaning of tubes. The

Ball Monitor can be used with the TECHNOS Continuous

Ball Feeding system for worry free maintenance.

    BALL SORTER

    SIZING THE EXTRACTION

    THRESHOLD

    The minimum diameter at

which the balls must be sorted

is defined by the inside diameter

    of the condenser tubes. Although

it is fixed at the manufacturing

stage of the Ball Sorter, it can be

    adjusted slightly to take into

    account any possible change in

    ball specification.

    REMOVING SPENT BALLS

Once sorted, worn-out balls areprevented from returning into

    the main ball recirculation circuit

and are stored inside a spent ball

    basket. This basket must be

    emptied periodically by opening

    the drain valve.

    PROPERTIES AND QUALITIES

    - Ageing will not affect its

    performance

    - Adjustments are easily made by

means of a variable orifice plate

    - The Ball Sorter is autonomous

    BALL COUNTER

    The Ball Counter continuously

    monitors the number of balls

    in circulation and activates an

    alarm when their number falls

    below a pre-set value.

    PROPERTIES AND QUALITIES

    A light barrier of 40 I.R.

    beams screens a glass pipe

    section fitted on the ball-

    recycling circuit. All recycled

    water flows through this glass

    pipe and each ball in

    circulation is counted as it

    crosses the light barrier while

    debris and air bubbles pass

    through unrecorded.

    A programmable logic

    controller receives information

from the light barrier and a

    high-speed entry device

    records the number of ball

    passages within a measured

    period.

    Software calculates the

    number of balls in

    circulation based on the ball

    circuit configuration and its

    nominal operating

    characteristics. The Ball

    Counter must be calibrated

    during commissioning of the

    equipment.
