PAUL MORAN
Arriving in the Summer of 2009 in Bali, Paul immediately set about painting the fantastic west coast of Bali.Being a Theology, Philosophy and Linguistics graduate and having spent most of working his life teaching computing to High School students, he describes himself as a completely self-taught artist entirely in love with the art of watercolour painting. Often regarded as a peculiarly niche and difficult medium, Paul points to its long history, to the British love affair with it- especially with landscapes, and ultimately to its simplicity. When asked why he doesn't paint in oils, he replies: 'Why? Watercolour is perfect for what I want to convey- simply the way light saturates - whether a place or a person'. Working primarily in this medium he describes its beguiling simplicity as perfect for capturing the unique light of a time
and a place. The series of watercolour nudes represents two years of study - in this case the amazing landscape of the human body soaked with light and heat. Many of Paul's works are held in private collections. He now works from a studio in Bali. The paintings from Bali represent only six months of work and he is excited at the prospect of taking the medium further and learning from this magical place and its people.

Statement: 'The act of creating a painting does transform a person, it transforms their appreciation of the world. My medium of choice has also been personally transformative. Watercolor has its own unique demands for a painter: Like sculpting it demands visualizing the outcome at every stage to retain the beautiful properties of the paper. It demands excellent drawing and an odd combination of a contemplative pace with speed and passion when needed. The subject is always ultimately light itself in my paintings; the way it illuminates the the human figure with the singular light of a timeless place. I am greatly influenced by both the techniques of the British landscape watercolorist: Sego, Chamberlain etc. and the aesthetic of Renaissance figure artists like Michelangelo. My aim to convey with this medium the simple poetry of light both on the landscape and on the human figure- its different planes, textures, skin tones and the dynamics of muscle tension.' Private collectors have purchased over twenty paintings to date and an exhibition has been scheduled at Cairo Opera House Gallery for 2010. There are over seventy landscapes and over forty life studies offered for exhibition, representing over four years' work. The artist' studio is located in Pererenan.

From 1978 until 1985 extensive travelling through S. E. Asia, with an accent on Indonesia. After 1985 settling as a painter in Amsterdam. Again periods living in Bali for inspiration, Then in 1989 settling in Bali as a painter.
As a painter I am mainly autodidact, though at the teaching academy (speciality drawing/painting) I learned a lot about techniques. A painting starts with looking for inspiration and power in nature. Something, which touches me at a certain moment, gives me the spark to start painting. I never think about a painting, there is never an idea. The “I” seems to become rather vague and go over into a state of broader awareness. I just start with a certain colour and rithm and in that state of mind a painting grows.
Painting I feel “one” with all wat is around me. My paintings are for me landscapes of the soul where form is not that important. There is in almost every painting an opening towards spiritual “light”. I always hope that people who look at my paintings can see this, translate symbols, and feel the energy in the painting.

Saraswati Malkootha: Goddesses of Mother Nature, 1.20m in diameter
Patrick OkorokoffBorn in Paris France 1948 In years 1970-80 I learned Architecture and drawing in the School “ des Beaux Arts de Paris”. Bali is the best place in the world to practice together architecture and painting in full harmony with balinese people, the temples, nature, rivers and the sea.Protected by Gods living in their divine island, you feel so well, so quiet, than the act of painting is just a “ prolongation” of spirit.
One day in December 2008, under the rain, I arrived in Pura Bessakih. In the fog. The impact of these temples, the strength of the volcanic stones have been “determinent” for
me. I had toTRY to exprim this religious energy. A kind of revelation. Then in 2009-2010 I decided to paint the “chanang”, the small flowers basquets I offer every morning to Gods.9 paintings with the same frame as a spiritual stict exercice.
Themas: Temples, forests, fishing boats.” La mer, son charme envoutant, ses sirènes” .I never paint from pictures. My camera is my mind, my imagination. In Bali, dream is the truth, so far from our closed mind occidental culture.

Princes,104 x 155 cm, Giclèe on Canvas
Stephan Max ReinholdBorn January 9, 1960 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Post-Secondary Education: Bachelor of Arts, Graduated 1981, Bachelor of Law, Graduated 1987.
Worked as a litigation lawyer in Calgary from 1987 to 2007. Keenly interested in photography since the age of 9. Specializing in water drop photography since 2003.
THE CONCEPT
The idea for the art has its roots in Bali. One hot afternoon, the artist found himself in a swimming pool, during a typical Bali rainstorm. With the surface of the water at eye level, he watched the raindrops impact, splash and rebound. He was captivated. That night, he returned with a small digital camera in a clear plastic bag and captured his first, rather crude, water drop pictures.
THE METHOD
The photographs are taken in a studio, in total darkness. The drop that is going to be

captured falls through an infrared sensor or a laser trigger. An extremely precise timing unit, capable of
measuring time down to almost the nanosecond, begins to run. A fraction of a second later, this unit fires the
flashes which take the picture, as the drop splashes down. The color and texture of the photograph come from the
background. The artist places colorful and interesting items behind the subject. He often uses flowers,
postcards, art paper, fabric or other objects. The background is reflected in the water and magnified in the drop.
Usually, the images are of plain water. At times, milk and food coloring is used, or oil, soapy water or even paint.
THE EQUIPMENT
The camera in current use is a Canon 1Ds Mark II, with 16.7 million pixels. On the camera is a Canon L Series,
180mm f3.5 macro lens, usually stopped down to f32, to maximize depth of field. The flashes fire at 1/15,000 of
a second (67 microseconds). The digital images are cleaned and adjusted (not altered or enhanced) using
Photoshop. Printing is done with an Epson 9880, using only original Epson ink, onto Epson Premium Art
Canvas. The manufacturer claims these archival quality materials lead to a life expectancy of 175 years for the
giclée prints.
