The rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum) isa medium-sized tropical tree (the fruitproduced by the tree is also known as"rambutan.) native to Indonesia andMalaysia.Rambutans are a non-climacteric fruit -that is, they ripen only on the tree. 9. The best quality rambutan is generally that which isharvested still attached to the branch (pictured above). It isless susceptible to rot, damage, and pests, and remainsfresh for a much longer time than rambutan that has beenpicked from the branch. 10. It can be grown in awood (on trees), in a plantation(on trees or poles), or in a"shader", in increasing orders ofproductivity. Left alone, it will growas high as possible on thesupport, with few flowers. Everyyear, growers fold the higher partsof the plant downwards so thatthe plant stays at heightsaccessible by a standing human.This also greatly stimulatesflowering. 13. Bougainvillea 14. The Bali Myna (Leucopsar rothschildi), also known asRothschilds Mynah, Bali Starling, or Bali Mynah,locally known as Jalak Bali, is a medium-sized (up to25 cm long), stocky myna, almost wholly white with along, drooping crest, and black tips on the wings andtail. The bird has blue bare skin around the eyes,grayish legs and a yellow bill. Both sexes are similar.The Bali Myna is restricted to the island of Bali inIndonesia, where it is the islands only endemicvertebrate species. (An endemic subspecies, the BaliTiger, has been extinct since 1937.) The bird wasdiscovered in 1910, and in 1991 was designated thefauna symbol of Bali. Featured on the Indonesian 200rupiah coin, its local name is "Jalak Bali". 15. Balinese Priest 16. Bali flags or Umbul Umbuls are ritual flags from Bali that representwelcome and celebration. These flags can be seen in Balinese temples,gardens, houses, restaurants, and along the tropical beaches of Bali.They are becoming increasingly popular as colorful additions to beachweddings, balconies, verandas and gardens all over the world.Additionally they can be used as decorative displays for parties,functions, fairs, markets etc. They are also perfect for businessadvertising purposes, such as real estate auctions, nurseries and manymore. Indonesia uses the Garuda, Garuda Pancasila as itsnational symbol, it is somewhat intertwined with the conceptof the phoenix.The Garuda Pancasila is coloured or gilt gold, symbolizesthe greatness of the nation and is a representation of theelang Jawa or Javan Hawk-eagle Nisaetus bartelsi.The black color represents nature. There are 17 feathers oneach wing, 8 on the lower tail, 19 on the upper tail and 45on the neck, which represent the date Indonesia proclaimedits independence: 17 August 1945. The shield it carries withthe Indonesian Panca Sila heraldry symbolizes self-defenseand protection in struggle.The Indonesian national airline is Garuda Indonesia.In Bali and Java Garuda has become a cultural symbol, thewooden statue and mask of Garuda is a popular artworksand souvenirs. 19.
