Market Summary ReportAugust 2015

Soft CommoditiesSugar prices rose on ICE (+3%), following a slow start to canecrushing in Brazil at the start of the season in April. Sugar pricesremained stable on LIFFE (0%). Cocoa bean prices rose on bothICE (+12%) and LIFFE (+8%). As a result, both cocoa powder(+11%) and cocoa butter prices (+4%) rose.

Oils & FatsSoyabean oil prices rose in Argentina (+6%) and on CBOT US(+2%), due to industrial action by crush and port workers inArgentina, which caused concerns about possible delays to oilshipments. Palm oil prices rose in Malaysia (+2%), remainedstable in Rotterdam (0%). Palm kernel oil prices fell in Rotterdam(-6%). Malaysia (-4%) and Indonesia (-4%). Rapeseed oil pricesrose in Canada (+6%), driven by concerns over tighter suppliesdue to forecasts of a lower planted area in 2015/16. However,prices fell in Rotterdam (-2%) due to forecasts for above averageyields in the EU for 2015/16. Prices for sunflower oil rose inRotterdam (+7%) due to tight supplies, but fell in Ukraine (-2%).Coconut oil prices rose in Rotterdam (+6%), but remained stablein the Philippines (0%). Extra virgin olive oil prices continued toincrease in Jaen, Spain (+7%), but fell in Lecce, Italy (-4%).

IngredientsAlmond prices rose in Spain (+8%) and in the US (+8%) dueto tight supplies, caused by the ongoing water shortages inCalifornia, the main global producer. In the EU, peanut pricescontinued to fall (-3%), while hazelnut prices increased (+11%).Turkish sultanas continue to increase (+30%), apricots (+20%)and raisins (+20%) all increased due to frosts in Turkey duringApril, which is still raising concerns about the production volumeof this year’s crops.

GrainsAs harvest begins around the world markets will react to anyweather reports up or down. Hot weather continues across Spain,France and Germany that sparked fears over yields and aresultant upward movement in price. However soft wheatoutput is estimated up by the French government despite the hotweather. New crop feed wheat values still have more to do tocompete within Europe being only a £10/T discount to Parismilling wheat currently. When the UK exported far greatervolumes the figure was more like £15/T. Heavy rain is hamperingharvest in the Ukraine and Russia but global cereal production isstill predicted to be only slightly lower than last year’s record.

Meat & PoultryOverall, deadweight beef prices in the EU stabilised (0%), withprices rising in Germany (+2%), France (+2%) and Ireland(+1%), whilst prices in the UK continued to fall (-3%).Deadweight beef prices in countries outside of the EU werevaried, with prices increasing in Australia (+8%) and Uruguay(+5%), but falling in Brazil (-9%).

Milk & DairyEuropean milk quotas ended in April. As such, production is likelyto increase in the next few months. Butter prices also fell in the UK(-3%) and SMP prices across the EU member states remainedstable (0%). WMP prices continued to decrease in the EU (-3%)and cheddar cheese prices eased in the UK (-2%). EU egg pricesfell (-4%) although Avian Flu in the USA flock has resulted inmillions of birds being culled. It is expected that European priceswill increase dramatically in coming weeks as additional demandis placed on the EU.
