The Bakalowits Company was founded in Vienna, Austria in 1845 by Elias Bakalowits. After his son Ludwig joined the company,E. Bakalowits & Sons grew and became one of the foremost crystal chan-delier manufacturers in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In 1892 Ludwig Ba-kalowits received the order to manufacture the chandeliers for the Neue Hofburg Palace in Vienna for Emperor Franz Joseph I and was appointed Imperial and Royal Purveyor to the Court.
The company’s reputation for excellence grew outside Europe, and by 1885 the company was exporting its products to America and Asia. In 1900, Ba-kalowits & Sons displayed their crystal chandeliers at the World Exposition in Paris. Other exhibitions in St. Petersburg, London, Geneva and Turin fol-lowed and attracted more clients from around the world. In 1928, the com-pany obtained patents for its crystal chandeliers.
In 1955 Bakalowits was entrusted with the manufacture of new lighting �xtures for some of the Viennese buildings that had su�ered damage du-ring the Second World War. These included the Parliament, the State Opera House, the National Theatre, City Hall, St. Stephan’s Cathedral, and others.
Recognizing the increasing demand for luxury products in Asia and the Middle East in the 1960’s, Bakalowits extended its business to those regions through close cooperation with international architects and designers. It did so while continuing its growth in Europe, where Bakalowits manufactu-red the largest chandelier ever built for the Parliament in Belgrade, Yugos-lavia. Since then, the company has continued to grow and has remained family owned in �fth generation and managed under the direction of CEO Prof. Friedhelm Bakalowits.
Founded in 1845 in Vienna, Austria, the Bakalowits Company has more than 170 years of experience in designing, manufacturing, and installing presti-gious, custom made light �xtures for commercial and residential settings. These settings include palaces, opera houses, hotels, conference centers, and cruise ships, as well as private homes.
Our portfolio of 8,000 designs includes both historical and contemporary �xtures. Our designers also use their creativity and extensive experience with international clients to create custom designs.
In addition to designing and manufacturing new products, our company uses the unique knowledge and skills of our specialists to repair and restore older chandeliers and other light �xtures.
While still family-owned and managed in Vienna, Bakalowits continues to expand worldwide, currently exporting 90% of its products overseas. At the same time we continue to maintain our commitment to the highest stan-dards of excellence in our product line and service to our clients.

SERVICES – NEW DESIGNS AND REPRODUCTIONS
Bakalowits Light Design has provided the highest quality products since 1845, making us one of the oldest manufacturers of custom made chandeliers in the world. Our exclusive knowledge and expertise set us apart in the design and manufacture of every type of chandelier, ceiling light, wall sconce, �oor lamp, table lamp, and various other lighting solutions.
Design
Our designers are experienced in all design styles from various periods and cultures, including Classical, Baroque, Empire, Maria There-sia, Art Deco/Art Nouveau, Modern, Mediterranean/Murano, Arabic, and Asian. If requested, they also create designs for original pro-ducts or reproductions of historical and modern �xtures.
All designs are the sole property of Bakalowits Light Design and may be used only with special permission.

PRODUCTION – CRYSTAL AND FINISHES
Our production sta� manufactures these designs using the highest quality materials under the strictest quality control. We use premium quality full cut Austrian crystal glass. The client can select clear or colored crystal pendants. The client may also request that we use Swarovski machine cut crystal glass. We make our products in any desired �nish (e.g. gold, silver, gold leaf, polished brass, patina, etc.) and color (e.g. black, brown, white, gold, etc.)
Post-Production
Our sta� is available to travel worldwide to oversee on-site installations.Maintenance and repairs are usually done in Austria. If requested we can provide a maintainance manual or a special proposal.

SERVICES – REPAIR AND RESTORATION
Because of our extensive historical records and our specialists’ expertise, we are able to repair and restore chandeliers and other light �xtures of various styles and periods made by Bakalowits or other manufacturers. All work is done at our Vienna workshop.
