Bainbridge Island hosted Rotary Exchange student Mark Saunders, from Perth, Australia, for 12 months beginning February 1968.

Funds from the 1969 and 1970 Auctions were used to help the Bainbridge Island Historical Society move an old school building (now the museum) from school property to a new site at Strawberry Hill Park. Auction funds also helped pay for the building’s heating, display cases, and a new roof.

• 1965: Park District createdRotary paid the cost ($1,500) to place the measure on the ballot. Creation of the district approved by the voters in May, 1965.

• 1965 Park commissionersFirst park commissioners were Dick Adair, Vann Bucklin, Lou Frohning, Russ Johnson, and Nob Koura, and Jack Gordon was appointed secretary.

• 1966: Strawberry Hill & EagledaleUS government decided to sell former Nike missile sites. Park District asked Rotary to make the initial $7,000 payment so the sites could be purchased.

• 1971: Strawberry Hill park improvementsRotary donated $5,340, so Park District could receive state & federal matching funds

• First scholarship was $250 in 1957.

• Statement of Purpose, 1957: The Rotary Club has for its purpose the development of the ideal of unselfish service to community and nation. In relation to this purpose, a scholarship will be awarded each year to a graduating senior planning to further his education, who has performed creditable service to school and community.

Library RemodelsGround was broken in 1981 for a major addition, funded in part by Rotary Auction proceeds. Opening day was March 17, 1982.

1995-96: Library Expansion

Funds from the 1994-96 Rotary Auctions provided $150,000 for a major expansion of the public library, doubling its size.
