THE MAN IN BAGAN

Shane McKirdy

Shane's hotel life began in his home town of Sydney during the 2000 Olympics at The Grace Hotel in Front Office. From there he moved on to Lizard Island Resort where he swopped the hustle-and-bustle of city life for the natural beauty of The Great Barrier Reef as Assistant Front Office Manager. Shane then worked throughout Australia on the East Coast of Tasmania at Freycinet Lodge as Front Office Manager, followed by a new role as Resident Manager in the Red Centre of Australia at Ayers Rock Resort.

Attracted by the prospect of gaining international exposure, Shane's next move took him to Filitheyo Island Resort in the Maldives as Rooms Division Manager. He arrived in Vietnam as the General Manager of Life Resort Quy Nhon, then onto the Life Resort's managed Blue Ocean Resort in Mui Ne as General Manager. Shane brings with him around 14 years of hospitality experience, balanced between Australian and International resorts.

NEW DESTINATION - BAGAN

Some 300 km southwest of Mandalay and 700 km north of Yangon, Bagan is to Myanmar what Angkor is to Cambodia, Ayuthia is to Thailand and Borobudur is to Indonesia - the most magnificent architectural flourish of an ancient people.

Sprawling away from the banks of the Irrawaddy River, more than 2,200 temples, pagodas, stupas and ruins grace more than a 100 square kilometres.

Some date back to the 11th and 12th Centuries, and all contribute to what National Geographic hails as “one of Southeast Asia’s greatest archaeological heritage sites.”
