DRIVING THE MOBILITY OF TOMORROW
GRIP Idle Management System
GRIP (Governor to Reduce Idle and Pollution)
Basil AL-Masri
Manager Medium Duty Technology Sales
Espar Products, Inc.
What will the GRIP System do?
• Manage the vehicles idle time
• Improve fuel efficiency by as much as 35%
• Reduce carbon emissions
• Reduce unnecessary wear and tear on the engine
• Maintain a work ready Vehicle and Engine
• Improve working environmental conditions

How does the GRIP System work?
• Monitors real time vehicle conditions (CAN network & Sensors)
• Changes the key positions the same way an officer would
• Controls aux. equipment to work the same as if the engine were running
• Provides a means of tracking vehicle usage

Safety First!
The GRIP System only controls the vehicle when in the
following conditions:
1. Vehicle is in Park or Neutral
2. System can see the CAN network on the vehicle
3. The hood is not open
4. The vehicle is at Idle
5. Vehicle speed is less than 0.5 mph
= Safe to Stop/Start

Screen:
• The screen is the interface between the
operator and the controller.
• This displays what is happening with the
system.
• The screen is disengaged when the
vehicle is in drive, to prevent distracted
driving.
• Available in French, English, and
Spanish.

Hood Sensor:
• This is a safety feature for servicing
the vehicle.
• The sensor is recognized through a
magnet glued to the hood.
• When the GRIP system does not
see this point of contact, it reverts
back to its original state.

Wiring Harness:
• This is custom made specifically to
the conditions, voltage and current
requirements, and common
mounting locations.
• It simply splices into three of the
ignition wires.
• Each component has a specific
connector to its corresponding
connector.
Espar Products, Inc.
Installation
• Ignition wires are the
only invasive connection to
the vehicle
• All other components use
plug and play connections
keyed differently to avoid
mating wrong connectors
• All harnesses are labeled
and individual wires are
printed for ease of
troubleshooting
• One instruction sheet
for connections very detailed
to vehicle

Technology Enhancements: Battery
• Simplified battery connections — no change to OEM at all
• Only 5% of idling is due to low battery
• Displays when charging

Technology Enhancements: Heating
• Option of just a coolant pump to provide heat and using engine to
create heat. At 113°F, engine starts and brings coolant temperature up
to 167°F
• Only 13-15 mins. of engine run time /3hrs, using coolant pump at 23°F

Technology Enhancements: Heating
• Option of coolant heater to create heat and coolant pump to circulate
• Heaters use approximately 5-10% of fuel compared to engine heating
• Two timer options for pre-heat

Technology Enhancements: Engine Shut Down
• Manual Engine Shut Down button

New shut down button allows the operator
to shut the vehicle off and still have climate
and battery monitoring
Espar Products, Inc.
Technology Enhancements: Anti-Theft
• Eliminates the need for additional anti-theft device to be installed
• Uses vehicle security already in place to provide theft control
• Can have the system only shut down when anti-theft is applied
• Can use anti-theft button from lighting keypad to eliminate confusion

Technology Enhancements: Warnings
• Communication warnings to know when an issue has occurred
• Provides safety information for technicians
• Allows the vehicle to operate as usual with the key
just no automatic features
