A: This is my seventh year. Q: How did you get to your current job at Xavier? A: I got my English degree in Ithaca, New York and had no idea what I wanted to do after college. I was brought to Coralville from New York through Americorps. I taught ESL classes for people preparing to come to America. I then got my teaching degree at Mount Mercy and was hired here after I applied. Q: Why do you enjoy teaching at Xavier? A: I love the sense of community here; it is extremely strong and supportive. Q: How long have you taught at Xavier? A: This is my first year here. Q: Why did you apply at Xavier? A: I graduated from The University of Iowa last December and Mrs. Wagner talked very highly of Xavier and how she loved working here. Since we were best friends in high school, I thought it would be cool to be able to work with her now that we are older. Q: Why do you enjoy working at Xavier? A: I like the idea of teaching at a school where you can express your faith. Also, the community is awesome and every- one cares about each other. Q: How long have you taught at Xavier? A: This is my tenth year here. Q: Why did you apply to work at Xavier? A: After I retired from working at Jefferson for 34 years, I was not ready to be done. So when a part- time AP Calculus position opened up here, it was the perfect match. Q: Why do you enjoy working at Xavier? A: I love working with young people. In AP Calculus, you bring everything you’ve learned together. My students enjoy it, so I do as well. Q: How long have you taught at Xavier? A: This is my seventh year. Q: Why did you decide to teach in a school you attended as a student? A: I applied everywhere after graduating from UNI and I ended up getting a job here. Q: Are you happy to be back at Xavier? A: Yes, my students are awesome and my number one priority. I also have really great co-workers that make my job fun. Q: What is your teaching background? A: After I graduated from St. Thomas, I volunteered in Montana on an Indian Reservation where I taught fourth grade. I knew that I enjoyed teaching but I wanted to go back to the Midwest. I then taught French at Oshkosh High School. Q: Why did you apply to work at Xavier? A: Mr. Keating taught me Psychology at Wahlert. My mom worked there and told me about the job opening here at Xavier with him. Q: Why do you enjoy working here? A: I love how the Xavier community is faith- based and how everyone works together in everything we do. Q: Why do you like your position as Assistant Principal? A: I get to work with both students and teachers where we do “fun stuff”. Q: How long have you taught at Xavier? A: This is my second year here. Q: How did you get to Xavier? A: When my husband graduated from the University of Georgia, he wanted to study saxophone at the University of Iowa. When we decided we were going to move, my mother-in- law suggested that I should apply for a position at Xavier. I did so and I had an interview over the phone and got the job! Q: Why do you enjoy working at Xavier? A: The students are very motivated and enjoy learning. I used to teach at a school that had over 3,000 students, and I did not like how it was big and impersonal. Here the community is close-knit and the atmosphere is personable. Q: Why do you like being a teacher? A: I love being able to challenge students by getting them out of their comfort zone. I get to share what I love with 130 students everyday.
