West Edinburgh Link...
The West Edinburgh Link (WEL) project is progressing into the next
stage of design.
Following feedback from residents at our previous consultation in
Spring 2019, we are now considering local landscaping and public
space improvements in areas of Clovenstone park.
The aim is to create a more inviting and accessible place for the
communities and enhance the new walking and cycling route.
Your feedback...
We would like to hear your feedback on the potential for
improvements to the community park areas around Clovenstone park
as shown in the map below.
The following set of boards contain information and opportunity for
you to share your views on the current area and options for how this
could be improved.
Previous engagement in Spring 2019 told us...
• There are accessibility issues for some user groups, especially
people in wheelchairs, including lack of dropped kerbs and cars
parked in front of dropped kerbs.
• Existing paths are of poor quality.
• The current perception of cycle safety is poor and a strong support
for improved cycle routes.
• 79% of people who responded supported the proposed segregated
cycleway on Wester Hailes Road and removal of a southbound
traffic lane.
• 84% of people who responded supported the proposed pedestrian
and cycle crossings on Wester Hailes Road.

CLOVENSTONE PARK - PUBLIC SPACE THEMES
What would you like to see?
Playful Landscapes- Free play, i.e. play without ‘formal’ play
equipment involves introducing elements such as planting, earth
mounds, boulders or tree trunks, trees and natural surfaces. Play
where there is a wide range of experiences enables people to make
use of natural elements, and promotes their engagement with the
natural environment.

Trees and Planting- There is an opportunity to enhance the
existing planting, mainly amenity grass, within Clovenstone Park,
to provide seasonal interest and habitat biodiversity. We think
wildflower meadows and groups of trees could be suitable.
Gateway Markers- We think the idea of ‘Gateway Markers’ could
act as a signpost for the WEL route. They could be designed to
incorporate shelter, seating and bike parking facilities. They could
also incorporate opportunities for wayfinding, public art or local
interpretation. We think this is one way they could look.
Productive Gardens- There is already a well-established community
garden at Clovenstone Park. We’ve heard that there is a desire for
even more space to be provided for local people to join together and
grow their own fruit and vegetables.
seating- Seating provides a place to stop, meet and enjoy time relaxing. In addition, seating can be valuable for people with additional needs and accessing and enjoying their local outdoor spaces.
