BACKGROUND Natural resources depletion, the greenhouse effect, the reduction of the ozone layer, desertification, climate change, global warming, pollution, etc. are some of the mayor problems that threaten the quality of life in our current society.

All these entail to the need of encouraging and implementing initiatives to adapt and readjust the existing productive systems to the needs of market and environment, and thereby to consolidate higher levels of economic, social and environmental development.

The horticulture is one of the sectors of vital importance, where it is necessary to take measures in the field of energy saving and energy diversification, due to large energy consumption involving the exploitation of breeding ground.

eltac xxi who are we?

Spanish company specialized in the sector of lighting, founded in 2001.

It has two distinct product lines:

Industrial Horticulture

Study of photoperiodic performance of plants to increase productive farms on optimalenergy performance levels.

• Requirements of cultivation.• Geographic variable environmental conditions.• Lighting parameters.• Selection of equipment.

ELTAC XXI researches, designs and manufactures equipment and solutions for reduction of energy consumption on the facilities, and monitoring of the lighting parameters.

The development of new technologies and components for lightning allows high reductionsin consumption levels:• CFL.• T3 & T5 FLUORESCENCE.• CFL 200, HPS & MH ELECTRONIC BALLAST.• DUAL POWER BALLAST.• LED LIGHTING.

The dimming of power on facilities allows adjusting the lighting level according on the needs of the farm with savings over 40%.• POWER STABILIZERS REGULATORS.• VIDEO MONITORING OF CULTIVATION.

Innovative project:• There is no knowledge of specific market studies for sale of horticultural products in Europe.• There are not technical lighting laboratories specifically for greenhouse projects in Spain.• Value will be generated in the agri-food sector, which is devoid of technification in our country.

Socio-economic impact of the project:• Increase the competitiveness of the Spanish agrifood sector.• Increase of the I+D (technical value added product) and creation of new jobs.• Supporting the technification of the agri-food sector Spanish, increasing profitability and

level compared to other countries.• Introduction of company belonging to differential sector to the traditionally established

ones in the Spanish business.

The project “ZELULA ZERO” consists in the development of self-sufficient modules of1,000 m2 of total area, for all kind of crops. The philosophy for a project is based on:• Optimization of energy consumption, through the improvement and use of advanced

components and technologies.• Use of renewable energies for self-sufficient energy needs of the farming module.

what is “zelula zero”?

otheraspects

• Optimization of performance and savings in the installations. This means production costs reduction.

• Reduce greenhouse gas emissions in electricity processes.• Greater conservation of environment. Do not consume more energy than

neccesary and implement alternative energy sources, it results in significant reduction of CO2 emissions.

• Contribute to inter-territorial balance, being able to get to isolated local areas where there is no energy sources.

STAGE I: LABORATORY OF CROP

Development of an “Experimental cultivation laboratory” for constructive, lighting and variable testing:• Improvement of the energy efficiency of lighting components, as well as its lighting

benefits.• Study and manufacture of specialized vegetative lumenaires for agri-food production

greenhouses.• Optimization of the processes of manufacturing and testing for costs reduction.• Possibility of leading facilities and so to get better yields using less electricity.

STAGE II: CELL OF CULTIVATION (SELF-SUFFICIENT GREENHOUSE)

Implantation of a self-sufficient technified greenhouse according to different situations andneeds of breeding grounds.

• Checking carried out in “Stage I” testing in real conditions.• Combining “Laboratory of Crop” research with testing in the “Cell of cultivation” and at the

same time to get a proper transfer of knowledge.• Study about practical problems in the horticulture sector to optimize and solve the

production processes.

Integration of alternative energy from renewable sources to supply energy needs in the breeding ground:

• Electricity to supply the minimum needs (lighting, irrigation, ventilation and extraction, etc.)- WIND- SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC

• Needs of air-conditioning in the greenhouse - BIOMASS - GEOTHERMAL
