Project Background and Vision Odisha with its Long coastline, virgin beaches, wildlife, monumental architecture and myriad forms of dance, music and handicrafts has been a preferred cultural tourism center attracting national and international tourists to world famous temples of Puri, Konark and Lingaraj. With twin objective to unlock the tourism potential of the State and provide new tourist product, Department of Tourism (DOT), Govt. of Odisha is planning to develop a state of rehabilitation Site is abutting the National Highway (203 A) Puri – Konark road and is well connected to Bhubaneswar, Puri and Konark known as the Golden Triangle of Tourism in Odisha which is visited by around two Crore tourists every year. The site is also part of PuriKonark Belabhumi Area, an identified tourism development area by DOT. Site Location, Accessibility and Surrounding The proposed Site is located to the north of Puri, between Puri town and Konark alongside the marine drive. The Kushabhadra River which separates Puri town from Chandrabhaga beach flows on one side of the proposed site. Site can be accessed through PuriKonark Marine Drive road. The nearest railway station is at Puri which is approximately 12 kms from the site. Bhubaneswar is the nearest Airport i.e. 70 kms from the site. 8. The Government of Orissa has taken several steps in promoting tourism in the state. Some of the major activities undertaken   

     by the department are highlighted below:  

(i) Orissa government organizes state and districts level festivals, including the Konark festival and the National Crafts Mela. 

The state has recognised them as official festivals and is geared toward promoting tourism in the state. 

(ii) A tourism policy has also been formulated by the Government for encouraging private investors. 

(iii) The state is also building tourist units under the Orissa Tourism Development Corporation and Tourism department. At 

present, there are 43 tourist units, with close to 600 rooms and 1,440 beds. 

(iv) The Central Government has declared the "Hotel and Tourism‐related Industry" eligible for the automatic approval of 

foreign technological agreements and for 51% foreign equity holdings, subject to certain norms, wherein NRIs (non‐

resident Indians) are allowed to hold up to 100% equity.
