• Graduated top 5% of high school class from CHS in 2007

• Graduated cum laude with Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Health from USU in 2011

8:50-9:00 Warm Up Daily Starter, Announcements, Trivia

9:00-9:50 Math Working on DESK Standards for Math 6th Grade

9:55-10:45 PREP Time Music, Computers, PE, Library

10:50-11:30 Writing Preparing for SAGE Test. Narrative Writing, Informative Writing, and Argumentative Writing

11:30-12:35 Language Arts Focus on things like Reading, Research, Comprehension, Stems, Spelling, small groups, integration of Social Studies/Science

12:35-1:15 Lunch Students eat balanced meal

1:15 -1:20 Read Aloud Teacher shows proper reading skills through class novel.

1:20-2:10 Science Heat, Light, Sound, Microorganisms, Astronomy

2:10-2:30 Recess Students get much needed break

2:30-3:15 Science/Social Studies Students learn about ancient civilizations, Middle Ages, Renaissance, WWI, WWII

3:15-3:25 Planners/Clean Students learn necessary skills for using planners, clean and get ready to go home

Grading• Points/Percentages/1,2,3 Scale• Participation• Progress towards mastering

concepts/core standards• Rain check coupons- punch card to

prevent assignments from being late (One card per term)

• Extra Day coupon- provides one extra day to work on assignment without being marked late (One per term)

• Without a rain check or extra day coupon, all late assignments will be docked 10% for every day late

• Coupons do not count towards projects or tests

• No name papers will be posted on the board for a day or two, and if not claimed will be thrown away

• Extra credit is available upon request

Testing• All instruction and

assessment is aligned with Utah DESK standards

• Stem/Spelling Tests on Friday

• Formal/Informal• Hands On Projects• Make up tests when needed• Re-do tests if necessary• Cheating will result in an

automatic zero with no chance to make up the score

Management• Focus on the Positives!• Give out “positives” or points to

students/groups who are doing something good

• End of the week students count up how many they have and turn them in

• Monday a random number is chosen and if the student has that many positives or more they get to spin for prizes on my spinning wheel

• Any negative behaviors will warrant• Talking with teacher• Behavior plans/contracts• Calling home• Missed recesses• Consequences set up by the school

Class Rules• My Class Rules:

• 1. Don’t do anything that will embarrass yourself, your classmates, or your family.

• 2. Only say things that are appropriate and uplift those around you.• 3. Books will be treated with respect! (Includes my books, their

books, library books, textbooks, etc.)• 4. Have fun!!

• As a class we will come up with our own rules to add to this list as well as any consequences they feel should happen when these rules are broken.

• We will be creating a class constitution outlining our expectations for the year and what we are looking forward to.

Expectations for Students

• Students will come to class prepared every day

• Homework should be done on time, completely finished

• First thing on papers is the student’s name

• Students should have fun!

• Everyone should participate

• Students should do their very best on everything

• Absolutely NO cheating!

• Students should be responsible sixth graders who prove to be great examples to the younger students

his or her endeavors• Help your child with

homework when necessary

• Come to our Student-Led Conferences and celebrate the accomplishments of your child!

• Check your student’s grades often

• Check the class website for homework, events, or information

• Enjoy the year with your student (It’s the last time they will be in elementary!)

• Challenge your student to do his or her best!
