PUBLIC SCHOOL REOPENING GUIDANCE AND BACK TO SCHOOL OPTIONS June 8, 2020 Governor Roy Cooper, along with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, provided schools with Strong Schools North Carolina Public Health Toolkit (K-12) . This document provided schools with the task of creating three (3) plans for school reopening: Minimal Social Distancing (all students return to in-person instruction), Moderate Social Distancing (schools could provide in-person instruction at 50% capacity), and Remote Instruction (no students would attend in-person instruction). This document also indicated that Governor Cooper would make a decision by July 1, 2020 regarding the plan under which North Carolina Public Schools would reopen. Davidson County Schools organized a re-entry task force comprised of board of education membership, district leadership, school-based leadership, classroom teachers, social workers, parents, Davidson County Health Department personnel, Davidson County Sheriff’s Office personnel, and Davidson County Emergency Services personnel. District leadership also organized meetings with school-based administrators. These groups used the guidance from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, North Carolina State Board of Education and North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to develop the required plans ensuring inclusion of all requirements while considering how to include as many recommendations as possible. July 1, 2020 Governor Cooper postponed the decision for how schools would reopen in August, stating that the decision would be made soon. At this point, Davidson County Schools had draft plans and stood ready to modify them based upon any additional guidance. July 14, 2020 Governor Cooper announced that schools could reopen under Plan B at reduced capacity with the requirement to ensure physical distancing. The Governor’s decision also required that districts offer remote only instruction to any student who chooses. Prior to this date, there had been no indication that schools would have to simultaneously implement multiple plans. Planning for instruction that allows teachers to conduct in-person learning for some portion of the week is different than planning for instruction that must be implemented fully remote. Additionally, this new guidance added a requirement that students and staff members would be required to wear face coverings. Superintendent Dr. Emily W. PUBLIC SCHOOL REOPENING GUIDANCE

AND BACK TO SCHOOL OPTIONS

June 8, 2020 Governor Roy Cooper, along with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, provided schools with Strong Schools North Carolina Public Health Toolkit (K-12).

August 12-14 Required Workdays Staff will be involved in training for remote learning platforms

Staff will also attend meetings to ensure understanding of requirements for cleaning, face coverings, social distancing, etc.

Students would be assigned to A Day or B Day based upon last name. If siblings are assigned to different days due to having different last names or due to being at different schools (elementary, middle, or high), parents can request all siblings be assigned to the same day by contacting the school.

For any week that the school calendar calls for less than 5 instruction days, there will be no remote day and A Days and B Days will be shifted to have students in in-person instruction as often as possible.

Students in adapted curriculum and OCS programs will be provided opportunities to attend in-person instruction more often than their non-disabled peers.

Calendars similar to the one below will be provided monthly in order to remain up-to-date with any calendar changes before being presented to students, parents, and staff members.

PUBLIC SCHOOL REOPENING GUIDANCE
