HANDEL LOVE DUETS Suzie LeBlanc soprano Daniel Taylor countertenor and director Adrian Butterfield violin solo John Leberg narrator
The music of Handel’s operas attain the pinnacle of dramatic expression and this is particularly true of the love duets. These duets, many of which were originally sung by the celebrated soprano Cuzzoni and the alto castrato Senesino, are brought to passionate life here by the contemporary fiery duo of Suzie LeBlanc’s “clear voice and unaffected style” and Daniel Taylor - “beauty of his voice will stop you in your tracks”. Early Italian works from Monteverdi and Cavalli complement Handel’s famous works.

“Barbara Hannigan is an exception, one of the few heroes who prevent a lightning bolt from shattering the crumbling ‘classical music business’: a singer blessed with an amazing soprano voice and full artistic incorruptibility, devoted with equal intensity to baroque and modern music.” - Berliner Zeitung
Hans Abrahamsen received his musical education from, amongst others, Per Nørgård, Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen and György Ligeti. He received the Carl Nielsen Prize in 1989 and the Wilhelm Hansen Composer Prize in 1998 and is considered one of the foremost composers of his generation.
Paul Griffiths was born in Wales in 1947 and worked for thirty years as a music critic in London and New York. Besides several books on music, he has written librettos (notably for Elliott Carter’s What Next?) and novels.
