The Bachelor of Science in Biology is a classic program of courses that survey a wide range of disciplines, including molecular and cellular, organismal, and ecological levels of biology. The theoretical knowledge and skills taught in this program will allow students to enter graduate programs or a variety of professional careers.

The biological sciences field encompasses numerous cutting-edge disciplines. Each offers a multitude of exciting career paths. One can prepare for a career in one of a dozen specialties in biology or microbiology, or pursue the growing field of exercise science. There are also jobs within the tribal or federal government that are charged with conserving natural resources and protecting public health and the environment. One can also teach biology in secondary or primary schools upon certification, or prepare for graduate study, for admission to medical, dental, or veterinary school, or for other professional training.

At Dine College, the program has a two-year and a four-year track. The two year is for students who enter the program after completing their associate degree. The four-year is for students who enter the program as freshmen or first-year students.

Two-Year Biology Program: The two-year junior-senior B.S. Biology program will follow the student’s first two years after completing their Associates degree in either Biology, General Science, Health Occupation, Environmental Science, Agroecology, or similar science area.

Students must have degree requirements that may not have been in their associate’s degree: BIO 181/182, CHM 151/152, CHM 235, PHY 110/111; MTH 190 (pre-calculus) and MTH 213 (statistics), or MTH 191 (calculus).

Four-Year Biology Program: This curriculum is for entering freshmen students and includes all biology, math and science support, and general education requirements. In the summer preceding the first year, it is recommended a student take MTH 096 and/or 100, tested out of or passed prior to MTH 110.

Biology Job Prospects:1. Employment as a research assistant, technician or sales representative in the agricultural, food processing, pharmaceutical or biomedical industries. 2. Jobs in the field of environmental protection or Bureau of Land Management, Fish & Wildlife3. Become a biology teacher at the middle school or high school level after meeting state teaching requirements. 4. A graduate degree in biology could lead to college or university teaching. 5. A degree in biology can help you get into medical, dental or veterinary school.
