Stonehill College RA’s celebrating being named “Most
Spirited School” at 2009 RA conference. Working to
bring together
area schools to
share
knowledge,
experiences, and
resources with
professionals
and students of
all skill levels.
WHAT IS BACHA? BACHA is a group that works to serve the college housing
profession in the Boston area. Currently, BACHA has over 275
individual members at 31 member institutions. It is led by a
steering committee of 16 professionals who meet monthly
during both academic semesters. BACHA hosts a number of
events to help increase the learning opportunities for students
and staff in the area. Some of those events include:
New Professionals Workshop (NPW)
Typically hosted in August the NPW is for professionals with less than 3
years experience looking for development in areas such as supervision,
balance, adjudicating & addressing conduct hearings, and/or campus
politics. This event is currently co-hosted with the Association for Student
Conduct Administration (ASCA) Circuit 1. The 2010 NPW will be hosted at
Curry College on August 5th.
Resident Assistant Conference
The RA conference typically draws 300-400 para-
professionals from the area. This conference features
educational sessions, the ability to meet and network
with other RA’s, and awards at the end of the day.
This conference is usually hosted on a Saturday at the
end of October/early November.
BACHA works hard to provide Boston area colleges and universities with a variety
of services and opportunities that will help professionals and paraprofessionals
to develop and grow. We are always open to new opportunities or ideas so
contact us though our website if you have any suggestions.
All Of the Above (AOTA)
AOTA is a conference typically hosted in February and is intended to give
students the opportunity to explore the possibility of a career in student
affairs. AOTA incorporates educational sessions, mock interviews, and
networking opportunities. This event has been co-sponsored in the past
with ACUI, MCPA, NASPA Region 1, NODA, and NEACUHO.
New England Student Affairs
Placement Conference
(NESAPC)
NESAPC is one of BACHA's signature events. This is a great opportunity for
local candidates and employers to job search in a smaller, more relaxed
setting. NESAPC is a miniaturized version of the national placement
conferences. NESAPC is currently follows the Oshkosh Placement Exchange
model, featuring employers interviewing in residence hall suites. NESAPC
is typically hosted at the end of May/beginning of June.
Professional Development Workshops & Socials
Throughout the year BACHA offers a variety of short day programs that are
either free or very low cost. These programs are intended to help continue
to provide BACHA member schools with resources
and networkingevents regularly throughout the year.
This past year we hosted a round table event at Vinny
T’s (with MCPA, ASCA, and NASPA) and the “Welcome
to Boston” social with MCPA during ACPA. Past
Professional Development Workshops typically
include a “hot topic”, teamed with a hands on
activity. Two recent workshops include a Leadership
Career panel followed by resume review/advice from seasoned housing
professionals and a Dean's Panel on "Surviving the Budget Cuts" teamed
with a interactive budgeting exercise.
