    Startup 2.2.5.1 WH7 38 Export Pipeline

    Important

    considerations

For startup of the pipeline whether it be the initial startup or a restart following either

a planned or unplanned shutdown, the important considerations are:

condition of the pipelineplanned flow quantity and schedule for increasing the flow quantity, andambient seawater/air temperatures.

Schedule Initial startup is scheduled to commence during the winter months.

    Rationale

The pipeline will have been previously dried to a set level of dryness and filled with dry

gas from onshore. The initial flow rates are likely to be low resulting in a large liquid

    hold up.

    Hydrate

    formation

    What is it?

Hydrate formation can occur in the presence of water at low temperature/high

pressure conditions and has the capacity to block the pipeline.

    How to control

Control of hydrate formation can be achieved by the presence of Kinetic Hydrate

Inhibitor (KHI) injected into the pipeline from the WH7 platform in sufficient quantity

depending upon the operating conditions, liquid hold up and concentration of

    corrosion inhibitor.

Corrosion What is it?Corrosion of the carbon steel will occur in the presence of water that is exacerbated by

    the startup conditions.

    How to control

To ensure effective corrosion management during startup the recommended maximum

dosage of 1.2 l / hr of corrosion inhibitor should be injected into the pipeline. Greater

quantities of corrosion inhibitor are not recommended as they affect the performance

    of the KHI.

    Recommended

    dosage of CI

    during startup

Update of the recommended and maximum recommended dosage of CI during startup

should be included on completion of the ongoing Corrosion Management Review and

    CI/KHI Compatibility Study.

    Slugging

    prevention

During startup and shutdown the rate of increase in flow should be controlled to

prevent slugging in the pipeline. This rate of increase should be in the order of 50

    MMSCFD/HR.
