The event also managed to pull in a large crowd, which may be impressive considering that many other scheduled National Night Out events in West Tennessee were cancelled. The heat was reported to be reaching up to 103 degrees. And as day turned into night, the sweltering weather cooled, but didn’t stop people from sweating or downing water. Still, Haywood County’s Second Annual National Night Out soldiered on, with a variety of activities and entertainment for the crowd. For some, saying goodbye to drugs and crime was pretty fun. Former Haywood County High School Basketball Coach Jesus Patino was a guest speaker for National Night Out. Haywood County Junior High student, Shay Williams sang the National Anthem. Members of the Ward 2 Neighborhood Watch were rewarded with special Neighborhood Watch signs. Lt. Barry Diebold was also awarded with a special volunteer award. Elliot Simmons found a unique way to beat the heat, by letting children attempt to dunk him in a tank of water. There were plenty of activities for children to enjoy. The Haywood County Temptations gave a special performance, and were one of many special performers for National Night Out. National Night Out pulls in large crowd

Despite the heat Tuesday, August 2, National Night Out was held beside Eastside School.
