Most of the food you eat, like starch, fats and proteins, is made of big complex molecules. Digestion breaks them down into simple nutrients like glucose which your body cells can use. These pass into your blood and are carried to every cell. So what is happening with the digestive system? From the start, saliva from your mouth cavity makes the food slippery so easier to slide down the gullet. ALSO saliva contains enzyme and break down large molecules into small ones, in this case for saliva breaks down starch to glucose when you chew. When the food reached the stomach, stomach acts like a mixer and blends food with another enzyme to make a smooth paste. WAITBLENDER???

YES Then it squirts it into the small intestine. When the food travel through the small intestine, most of the large molecules get broken down in your small intestine. Muscle around it will squeeze food along and mix it with MORE ENZYMES. And remember, the FINGER-LIKE VILLI line the inside walls and they are just ONE CELL THICK. SO ULTRA SUPER THIN. This gives the small intestine internal surface a huge surface area, and this is where nutrients are absorbed into the blood.
