The preceding specifications are standard values. In some cases, it might be advantageous to increase or to decrease those values.Never do without coolant or lubricant when drilling.Do not center rust-free materials (e.g. VA – or NIRO sheet metals), as the material will harden and the drills will quickly get blunt. The workpieces must always be tightened rigidly and strongly (vice, screw clamp).

4.6 Cooling
16 / 10 2008
Due to the rotational movement a high temperature will occur at the tool reference plane, caused by the occuring friction.
During drilling, the tool requires cooling. By cooling with an appropriate coolant and lubricant, the optimum performance and long servicelife of the tool will be ensured..
This is best ensured by a separate coolant system. If a separate coolant system has not beenincluded in the delivery, coolant can be applied by means of a spray gun or spray bottle.
NOTICE!
Danger of injuries caused by touching or drawing in of the spindle. Please use a spray gun or spray bottle for cooling.
INFORMATION
As a coolant a water-soluble, environmentally sound drilling emulsion should be used, which canbe obtained at specialised shops.
Ensure that the coolant is collected.
Ensure environmentally sound disposal of the coolant and lubricants used.
Observe the instructions on disposal as specified by the manufacturer.
4.7 Prior to Drilling
Prior to starting of work, the required speed must be selected. It depends on the diameter to bedrilled as well as on the material.“Speed Regulation“ on page 26
WARNING!
During all drilling activities the workpiece is to be secured in order to prevent pulling by the drill bit. Suitable gripping tools are a machine vice or clamping jaws.Position a wooden or synthetic plate underneath the workpiece in order to prevent any damage(holes) to the work table, vice etc.
Adjust the actual required drilling depth by means of the drilling depth bit stop in order to obtainreproducible results.
During all drilling activities involving wood, appropriate dust extraction is required, since 'wooddust' may be hazardous to health. Always wear the appropriate dust mask when the work invol-ves dust formation.

Page 32 dri
The spindle sleeve feed is driven by the star wheel. Be sure to feed the spindle shaft evenly andnot too fast.
The spindle will be reset by the return spring.
WARNING!
Safe positioning of clothing and / or hair.• Always wear tight fitting clothing while drilling.• Do not use gloves.• Wear a hair net, if required.
CAUTION!
Danger of 'bruising' due to the lever on the star wheel.Do not let go of the star wheel while the drill spindle sleeve is moving back up.Smaller drill bits tend to break more easy.
Pull the drill bit out more often while drilling deep holes. Thereby the drill chips will be removedfrom the drill hole. A small quantity of oil drops will diminish friction and stretches the servicelifeof the drill.
CAUTION!Danger of injuries. Do not position your hands between the boring head and the drill spindle sleeve.

The necessary speed is depending on the diameter of the drill bit, on the material which is beingmachined as well as on the cutting material of the drill bit.
Material which needs to be drilled: St37
Cutting material (drill bit): HSS spiral bit
Set point of the cutting speed [vc] according to the table: 40 meters per minute
Diameter [d] of your drill bit: 30 mm = 0,03 m [meters]
Selected infeed [f] according to the table: about 0.35 mm/rev
Speed
Set a speed on your drilling machine which is less than the determined speed.
INFORMATIONIn order to facilitate the production of larger drill holes they need to be pre-drilled. This way, youreduce the cutting forces and improve the guiding of the drill bit.
The pre-drilling diameter is depending on the length of thechisel edge. The chisel edge does not cut, but it squeezesthe material. The chisel edge is positioned at an angle of 55°to the major cutting edge.
As a general rule of thumb it applies: The pre-drilling diameter is depending on the length of the chisel edge.
Recommended working steps for a drilling diameter of 30 mm
Example:
1st working step: Pre-drilling with Ø 5 mm.
2nd working step: Pre-drilling with Ø 15 mm.
3rd working step: Drilling with Ø 30 mm.

Spindle return spring
• Loosen both nuts on the spring housing, approximately 1/4 counter-clockwise rotation. Under no circumstances must the nuts be completely removed from the screw thread!
• Hold the spring housing with one hand, while using the other hand to slowly remove the housing.
• Rotate the spring housing about its own axis until the pin snaps into the next notch.
Illustr.6-5: Spindle return spring
INFORMATION
If the tension has increased, rotate the housingclockwise and if the tension has decreased rotatethe housing counter-clockwise.Ensure that the notch is always snapped into thespring housing properly and subsequently tigh-ten the nut. The second nut secures the first nut (capped nut). When the nuts have been tightened they shouldnot touch the return spring housing.

8 Failures
8.1 Failure of the drilling machine
Failure Cause/Possible Consequences Solution
Noise during operation. • Spindle runs dry.• Tool is blunt or has incorrect ten-
sion.
• Lubricate spindle.• Use new tool and check tension
(Locking of drill bit, drill chuck and taper mandril).
Drill bit "burned". • Incorrect speed• Chips will not come from the bore
hole.• Blunt drill bit.• Operation without cooling.
• Select different speed, feed is too fast.
• Retract the drill bit from the bore hole more often.
• Sharpen the drill bit or insert new drill bit.
• Use coolant.
Drill point runs off, drilled hole is not circular.
• Hard fibre in wood or length of the cutting twist or the drill bit is uneven.
• Drill bit is bent.
• Use a new drill bit.
Drill bit defective. • No base / support used. • Place a piece of wood underneath the workpiece and fasten this to the workpiece.
Drill bit runs unround or wobbles.
• Drill bit is bent.
• Worn bearing on boring head.• Drill bit not correctly tensioned.• Drill chuck defective.
• Replace drill bit• Have the bearing on the boring
head replaced.• Set the correct tension to the drill
bit.• Exchange the drill chuck.
The drill chuck or the taper mandril cannot be inserted.
• Dirt, grease or oil on the tapered interior of the drill chuck or on the tapered surface of the drill spindle
• Clean the surfaces accurately• Ensure that the surface will remain
fat-free.
Motor does not run • Motor not correctly connected• Defective (safety) fuse
