It’s time to breathe—and let your feet find safe ground. ~Wenche What You’ll Need 1 light print square, 7" × 7" for background 1 gray print square, 6" × 6", for elephant Scraps of red and navy prints for platform Embroidery floss: blue, black Template plastic or freezer paper Appliqué The appliqué patterns are on pattern sheet 3. The instructions are written for hand appliqué. Reverse the patterns for fusible appliqué. 1. Make templates from plastic or freezer paper using the patterns. 2. Prepare the appliqué pieces by tracing around the templates onto the right side of the chosen fabrics. Cut out, adding a ¼" seam allowance all around. 3. Referring to the photo, position the pieces in the center of the light print square and pin or baste in place. Stitch by hand using a blind stitch. 4. Embroider the eye using two strands of black embroidery floss and French knot. Embroider the head and ear using two strands of blue embroidery floss and backstitches. Embroider the tail using two strands of blue embroidery floss and two rows of backstitches. See “Embroidery Stitches” on page 138 for stitching details. 5. Press the block on the wrong side and trim it to 6½" square, keeping the design centered.
