1. The idea – light & waveforms creating shadows on the seabed -
replicated by pixellated image on screen
2. The Concept – “Bio-feedback” - Participant as part of installation,
learning to 'master' equipment
3. Prototypes help concept to develop, from arm-waving by participant to “haptic” approaches
5. A kinetic “tilt” mechanism is devised, based on a ball-joint, with an Accelerometer being
“controlled by the 'Subject'
6. The 'subject' learns to control the component in the exhibit – perception & cognition become the key concepts
7. As the 'subject' becomes immersed in the installation as part of the process, there is a blurring of 'subject' & 'object'
8. The accelerometer (seen here) is integral to the perceived movements of the participant or 'navigator'
9. The ball-joint moves when the navigator tilts it....
10. The tilt-motion drives 4 Vibration Motors attached to a small water-pool
11. The motors create waveforms in the liquid, observed by the navigator.
Perception (Cognition) is now 'affected.'
12. Navigator observes reactive images via a webcam.Images are projected on a large screen in front.
13. Here there is an attempt to create a 'cognitive feedback loop'
where the observer now becomes “as if observed”
14. Video feed via Processing with wave-form FX , demonstrating the navigator's own 'cognitive responses' where he 'learns' to control the image and thus becomes
part of the installation itself
