The Honorable Premier, Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Education, Rob Stokes addressed the conference and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting public schools. We received our funding allocation for 2018 and it has increased from this years allocation. Speakers included: Deng Adut Dan Haesler Adam Gilchrist Dr Simon Breakspear Bill Lucas Matina Jewell Jennifer Byrne Sally Dominguez Michael Crossland Mark Scott (Secretary NSW Public Schools) One of the most impressionable presentations was from the founders of Orange Sky Laundry, Nic Marchesi and Lucas Patchett. Two young Australian men who had a dream to change the lives of others and have been able to achieve that rapidly. I’ve extended an invitation to Nic and Lucas to address our Bongil Bongil Community of Schools with the hope of inspiring our children to face their challenges and know they CAN make a difference. I’ve come away inspired and look forward to sharing what I’ve learned with our staff and students. Have a good weekend! Brad Lyne - Principal Public Speaking What amazing Public Speakers we have at our school. Our student representatives at the Bongil Bongil competition are to be congratulated on their efforts. It is wonderful to see the success that our school Public Speaking program is having, providing opportunities for our students to perform such an important skill. Early Stage 1: Heidi Sorenson won and Eden Bailey was a finalist. Stage 1: Dallace Brown came second and Liyla Davies was a finalist. Stage 2 Harriet Croak came second and Teo Whitlock received a Highly Commended. Stage 3 Kane Perrie won and Gabby Bowles received a Highly Commended. Congratulations!

Kinder Transition Program - Wednesday, 1st November from 9.15am until 11.00am The children will again participate in early literacy, numeracy, craft, singing and tabloid activities in the kinder classroom. Parents are to walk students to the kinder classrooms and collect them at the Tallowwood tree at 11.00am. The school will provide crunch and sip for your child on this day. PBL We continued our focus on being Respectful this week with our Stage 3 leaders revisiting a lesson on being respectful to others. The lesson looked at: listening to the speaker, waiting your turn to speak and respecting other’s learning. At today’s assembly, one student from each class in Years K-2 was awarded a ‘Respectful’ certificate for displaying the values taught in the lesson. On Monday, the PBL team met to look at our data and find our next fortnightly focus. We will be looking at Safe play in the playground. We look forward to sharing more PBL news with you then.

At last week’s assembly Isabella Brooks, Emma Totzl, Jack Zimmer, Tomoyo Ikehara, Tiahna Thompson, Monique Galvin, Claire Richards, Erin Krainik and Elke Bowles were awarded a Respectful PBL Award. Congratulations! Fete BBQ Helpers Mr Shipman is running the BBQ at this years Mini Fete. If you would like to assist him for for an hour or more please email him on [email protected]

Year 1 and 2 Swimming Program This year the Swimming Program will go for two weeks and commence on Monday, 13th November and conclude on Friday, 24th November at a cost of $60.00 per student. There is a limit of 100 students, please make sure you get your permission note and payment in as soon as possible. We only have 31 positions left. This program has been subsidised by a Sporting Schools Grant. Please make sure your note and payments are returned by Friday, 3rd November 2017. Bus Travelling Information If your child is starting Kinder next year, going from Year 2 to 3 or from Year 6 to 7 a new bus application form needs to be completed. A reminder if you have any concerns about your child’s bus safety, please contact the relevant bus company. All bus applications are completed online by going to transportnsw.info/school-students.

Mini Fete Thursday, 9th November 2017 Fete Tokens A Token Sheet order form for the Mini Fete was sent home with each student this week. Sheets are $12.00 each (Amounts less or more than $12.00 can be purchased). Fete tokens will be distributed to all classes Thursday morning of the fete. If your child is ill on the day of the Fete you can contact us before 12 noon on fete day to organise a refund of tokens. There will be no refunds for unused tokens. Please make sure you have your token orders in by Monday, 6th November. Jaffas and Chocolate We would love donations of jaffas and chocolates for our fete. There is some great deals on chocolates at the local supermarkets at the moment. Please bring any donations to the school office. 2018 Year 7 Parent Information Evening will be held Tuesday, 21st November from 5.30pm until 7.00pm in Toormina High School Library. You will have the opportunity to meet the Principal, Paul Humphrey and Year 7 2018 Adviser, Adam Berrada and teaching staff. At our Information Night there will be scholarship applications, book packs ($70.00 with calculator, $50.00 without), the Uniform Shop will be open, demonstrations and displays from all Toormina High School faculties, tours of the school, student musical entertainment and external agency stalls including NSW Health, bus companies and mental health providers. A “creche” and light refreshments will also be available. Coffs Beach Walk for Men’s Health This will be held Sunday, 12th November from 10.30am. To register or donate please go to the Movember Foundation’s website and go to events and search Coffs Harbour, Click Donate to register.
