First Aid Course – Parents and GuardiansIn season 2020/21, LSV will be making it compulsory for all full patrols to have trained First Aid patrol members.

For those parents who feel like they would like to patrol but don’t want to do the Bronze Medallion, you can become a Bancoora First Aid Patrol Member!

Bancoora First Aid Patrol Members stay on the beach to be available to serve the public in providing First Aid. You wear the SLSA patrol uniform and will be an integral part of the club’s patrol, you just don’t need to go in the water.

In preparation for the changes coming in 2020/21, the Committee has asked that the club conduct free First Aid training at Bancoora for members who would like to patrol this season and gain this very valuable life skill. The first aid course is nationally recognised under ‘HLTAID003 Provide First Aid’. These courses will likely be run in the first quarter of 2020.

We’d like all members to seriously consider doing this training as it may one day save a life.

Please register your interest in the First Aid course with our training officer Callum Edwards at: [email protected].

LSV Awards TableThe Committee has provided members the following table of primary awards that are required at Bancoora to provide full patrols for season 2020/21. Please review the table and if there are any courses of interest to you, please contact our training officer Callum Edwards at: [email protected].

Increasing Engagement with MembersWe have received feedback from members that engagement with our members is something we can improve on in season 2019/20.

The Committee is committed to enhance our communication and engagement and to encourage greater patronage of our clubhouse and bar. During January we will be holding family dinners to encourage all families to the club to meet other members and build stronger bonds between all members. Please watch out for further information in December with confirmed dates of family nights.

Please note that these nights are also planned to raise much needed funds to support the club and to purchase equipment for our Nippers and Young Guns.

Strategic PlanThe Committee has begun planning for the next Bancoora Strategic Plan.

A subcommittee has been formed and a survey is being prepared for members’ feedback which is expected to be circulated in February 2020.

The new strategic plan will follow on from the fantastic work done with the club’s last strategic plan which resulted in increased membership, engagement and number of patrol members.

If any members are interested in assisting the committee with this task, please email the Chair of the Bancoora Strategic Plan Committee and club Vice President Nathan Morton at: [email protected].

Behaviour Reminder – Nippers and Young GunsAt the start of the season we’d like to remind parents, guardians, friends, Young Guns and our Nippers of the need to show respect to all people at the club.

There were instances last season where there was unwarranted scragging and tackling on the beach, practical jokes being played on people which were unwelcome, Nippers and Young Guns not listening to instruction and at times, disrespect shown to the parents and helpers. The parents and helpers freely volunteer their time to ensure that Nippers and Young Guns can be provided for all Nippers’ and Young Guns’ enjoyment.

The Committee is strongly committed to providing a safe, welcoming and respectful environment for all members. Please note that disrespect, bullying behaviour and unsolicited touching of any kind will not be tolerated.

If any members have any questions about expected behavioural standards at Bancoora, please contact the President directly at: [email protected].

Bancoora is a Smoke-free and Drug-free environmentThe Committee would like to remind all members that Bancoora is a smoke-free and drug-free environment.

Please do not smoke at Bancoora and particularly do not smoke anywhere near the gear-shed as there are highly flammable liquids and fuels contained in the gear-shed.

Please do not bring any illicit or illegal drugs to the club. Illicit drugs are not welcome at the club under any circumstances.

The Bancoora smoke-free and drug-free environment is consistent with national Surf Life Saving Australia guidelines.

Bancoora is now officially on LinkedInThe Committee has noticed some members refer to Bancoora on their online profiles.

You can show off the Bancoora logo with pride by searching the official Bancoora LinkedIn membership and refer to your service at the club.

Requal Reminder – 30 NovemberWe’d like to remind members that Bronze requal will be conducted at the club on 30 November from 10am.

Other local clubs will be offering requal at different dates if you can’t make 30 November. Please refer to LSV Training from Anywhere for further details.

Thanks to our BBQ SponsorsThe Committee encourages all members to thank our wonderful sponsors at Brumby’s and Pacific Meats for donating food for our Nippers/Young Guns weekly BBQs.

These donations allow us to make profits from our BBQ which go directly back into our Nippers and Young Guns programs for equipment purchases and maintenance.
