Dear Students,

We were very happy to see all the personal and academic growth you have made in our nine months together!

We would like to thank you for your patience and work! We had a lot of new material to cover this year. We started dealing with longer and more complex texts. Most of the grammar units were completely new and you did really well! This way we will have a head start the coming year.

Putting together this magazine was a beautiful experience which proves how much you can do with a little bit of effort and your teachers' encouragement, help and support. All your work, including stories, reviews, articles and letters on topics of your choice, made us really happy and hopeful of even more progress in the future.

We wish you a relaxing, enjoyable summer holiday! Make sure you rest well, read books, play outside and explore the world around you with your family and friends.

What is FIFA world cup?

 

All people know what FIFA world cup is. FIFA world cup is a world cup soccer tournament. It takes place every four years. National teams of different countries take part. This year FIFA world cup is in Brazil. In summer, we will be able to watch FIFA world cup, in our homes, on TV. We can go to Brazil to watch it l ive, too.

My favourite team is Spain because it has a lot of my favourite players. The most diff icult club is G because it has very good teams. In my opinion Greece will qualify into the next round and there it wil l probably be disqualif ied because there are better prepared teams. That’s ok because Greece has very good players and we will do better in the future!

The most popular players in this world cup, are Crist iano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Arjen Robben, Neymar Jr.

The scary no ise

One night Ben heard a scary noise. He woke up, got off his bed and walked down the stairs. Nobody was there! Not even his family! Ben started to cry and the scary noise became louder and louder. Suddenly a black cat entered his house and run in front of him. Ben climbed up the stairs and got into his room. The door opened slowly and his family came in! He felt so happy! His mother explained to him that their cat, which was called Dory, had disappeared and they had been out looking for it. But no one could understand what the scary noise was! Raphael, B4

Santorini One of the most famous islands in Greece is Santorini. It’s got 11.550 inhabitants and its area is 90.69 square km. In 1000 BC there was a volcanic eruption which created the island as we know it. In my opinion, it’s the most beautiful island in the Cyclades! It’s got beautiful beaches, traditional white little houses, restaurants which serve delicious food. Also, it has the best sunset in the world! The people who live in Santorini are very hospitable.    We  all  know  Google.  Google  is  an  American  multinational  company  which  was  founded  by  Larry  Page  and  Sergey  Brin  on  4  September  1998.  We  use  Google  to  search  information  on  the  internet  but  Google  is  a  company  which  has  lots  of  apps.  We  can  use:  

• Gmail  to  send  e-­‐mails  

•  YouTube  to  watch  videos  

•  Google  maps  to  find  our  way  

•  Google  Drive  to  save  documents  

•  Goggle  +  to  sing  up  photos  and  videos  

•  Blogger  to  make  your  blog  on  the  internet  

•  Google  play  to  download  apps  to  our  android  phone  or  tablet  

• Google  Earth  to  explore  the  planet!  

Also,  Google  Chrome  is  a  freeware  web  browser  developed  by  Google  I  believe  that  Google  is  an  excellent  company    which  my  friends  and  I  use  to  send  e-­‐mails  and  search  information  about  our  favorite  actors  and  singers  every  day!

Echelon Conspiracy is an interesting adventure movie. I think it’s the best one I have ever seen.

The main characters are Shane West, as Max Peterson, Edward Burns, as John Reed, and Ving Rhames, as Dave Grant. It was directed by Greg Marcks in 2009, produced by John Corser and the story is written by Michael Nitsberg.

One day, a young computer engineer, Max Peterson, got a box with a strange phone which came from an unknown place. The phone sent very strange messages to him. It told him to go to the casino of a hotel in Prague. And so he did. There, he won a lot of money at blackjack. The telephone told him to bet all his money. Then, the police saw it from the camera and took the phone. Max told them about the weird massages. They knew about that. The text messages came from a national computer, Echelon.

If you want to learn more watch ECHELON CONSPIRACY (2009). I suggest you seing it, because it’s exciting and you never know what will happen next!

Our favourite athletes Ian Thorpe is a middle-distance swimmer and a record holder. He was born on October 13th 1982, in Sydney and at the age of 14, he

represented Australia at the Perth World Championships. He won a gold medal in the 400 meter freestyle. Thorpe has broken 22 world records and he has won 15 gold medals so far. Some of his most famous victories are the Summer Olympic Games in 2000 and the Fukuoka World Championships in 2001.He has also won both the 200m and 800m freestyle, for which he holds the world record. On November 21th 2006, he said that he is quitting from his professional swimming career because there were other things more important in his life. I admire Ian Thorpe because at such a young age he managed to become a successful swimmer. I think if he continues his career he will win even more medals and records. Anastasia, B1

My favourite sport is tennis. I have played tennis for three years. I play tennis three times a week. My teacher says that I am quite good at it. I also like watching famous tennis players on TV. My favourite tennis player is Roger Federer. Roger Federer was born on 8th August 1981. He is fantastic. He has many records. He was number one for 302 weeks! He has 17 Grand Slam titles and many more. He is married to Mirka Vavrinec and they have four children. I like him very much because he is a great athlete and a good man. Le Bron James was born on December 30, 1984 in Ohio. Le Bron James’ real name is Le Bron Raymone James. His life was very difficult for Le Bron. His mother, Gloria, didn’t have a job and she let Le Bron live with the family of Frank Walker when he was nine. Frank was a football coach. He taught Le Bron basketball. As a teenager, James played basketball for the Northeast Ohio Shooting Stars. The team was very good! Later, Le Bron James joined the Cavaliers. In his first game, he scored 25 points against the Sacramento Kings. James was the best player in NBA in 1998 I like him very much because he plays great basketball and he can dunk. Dear Athina , I was very happy with your letter. You wrote that you are very nervous because you have exams. I was nervous too. But now, I know what to do to feel better. I read it in a magazine . So, I can give you some advice . First of all , you should study very hard and revise a lot . Ask for your teacher’s help if you don’t understand something. The evening before the exam go out for a walk with your friends. Go to bed early. The morning before the exam, wake up earlier to have some time to revise the difficult parts.Eat something light - a banana is good for you! You should drink some water but not too much. The Haunted Dream There were two children, alone in the scary castle … their names were Emma and Jack. They were fifteen years old. They were walking very slowly in the darkness and suddenly … The two children fell in a fire river! Jack- I’m ok. And you? Emma- Ok. Thank you. Jack – We fell! Emma- Look! There is an old man! Old man, help us please ! Old man- Ok guys, come on … But … the old man was evil… And at nights he became a werewolf! They went to his home. Then, at night, the old man became a scary wolf and ate the children! The sight was awful, horrible! When this horrible thing happened Emma’s father came in the house and killed the evil old man! He started looking for Emma shouting loudly “EMMA , EMMA! “ “ Emma …go to bed. You mustn’t watch horror films and fall asleep in front of the TV!’’ As Emma was going to her bed she heard a horrible wolf cry from the forest: ‘’Auuuuuuuuuuu’’ What do you think? Dear Emma, How are you? It s been a long time since we talked. How is your brother? Is he feeling better? Anyway a few days ago we celebrated Easter. Schools were closed for holidays. At Easter we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. After Big Saturday, at midnight, everyone goes to church and we take the Holy light and we are really happy because Jesus has beaten death. After that we go home and eat meat after forty days. The day after that, at noon, we eat lamb and other kinds of meat, we sing and spend our day eating and meeting friends and relatives. A long time ago there was a magician in Kansas called Oz. One day while he was giving a performance a little girl who couldn’t walk told him: “make me walk”. But Oz couldn’t do anything because he wasn’t a real magician. As he was going home, someone started chasing him and Oz got up on a hot air balloon and got away. But in the sky, there was a tornado, he got in and he was turning round and round and round but when he said “Please I will change” the tornado stopped. He arrived at a very strange but a very beautiful place with big flowers and plants... I like the film very much. It is very interesting, and the pictures are fascinating. My favourite English book. My favourite English book is Story fun, because it has interesting short stories and not many exercises! Also, the exercises are easy and short. My teacher is very good too. She reads the stories slowly and she explains them to us. With Story fun, we learn many new and interesting words. My favourite story in the book is “Big Nose and Storm-­Maker”, because it teaches you not to laugh at anyone. The other people laugh and point at Big Nose. One day Big Nose meets Storm – Maker and stops him from destroying the town. Then all the town people αρε happier and safe.They αre friendly to Big Nose too! Jacqueline Wilson is a famous writer. She was born in Bath in 1945. She worked in a publishing house and then she was a journalist before she became a writer. She has written lots of children’s books and she has won a lot of prizes. Children love her. Her books have been translated in 30 languages. She loves reading. She has more than 150.000 books in her bookcase. My favourite book is ‘Best friends’. It is hers. There are two girls. Their names are Evita and Roubini. They were best friends but one day Evita had to go away because her dad found a great job. The girls were very sad. Then Roubini found another good friend but she sent a lot of letters to Evita and Evita wrote back. They were ‘Best friends’. Jacqueline Wilson is my favourite writer because she uses beautiful expressions and she writes excellent books. Eleftheria B1

Rachel Renee Rassel Rachel Renee Rassel is my favourite writer and I love her because she always writes funny and interesting books. I chose to write about her in my article because in my opinion she is a very important writer and people should get to know her. She was born in Virginia in 1977 and now she is thirty seven years old .Her occupation wasn’t a writer in the beginning. She was a lawyer. Every day she thought about writing books and one day she did that. She followed her dream. The book I have read and I think is amazing, is the diary of a boring girl. If you ask me I believe that Reichel Renee Rassel created the character of Niki Maxwel because she had memories of her life and she put them in her book. I love this character because she inspired me to write my own diary and because when I read it I can imagine a lot of things. I hope some day you can read one of her books! Evdoxia, B2

Frozen is a fantastic movie that talks about friendship, love and peace. Anna was the second daughter of the king. When her parents died, her older sister Elsa got the throne. Anna had to work with Christopher a mountain man, to start a big journey. Their purpose was to find princess Elsa, Anna’s sister and solve the Frozen magic. The Frozen power of Elsa had made the city of Arendella have a long winter. The movie won two Oscars in the categories of best cartoon movie, original song and the golden globe. I like it very much. It is a very interesting movie. It has very beautiful pictures and graphics You must see it at the cinema, you will like it very much! Georgia B1

Why I like....

Surfing I like all sports, but my favourite ones are watersports like rowing and surfing. But, unfortunately, I can’t go surfing, because the sea is too far from Giannitsa! Surfing is one of the oldest sports on the planet. The first Polynesian settlers to land on Hawaii started surfing and after a few hundred years of riding the waves of Hawaii, the well-known Hawaiian form of the sport emerged. The most famous surfing champions are Carissa Moore from Hawaii and Joel Parkinson from New York City. Surfing and a TV series called HAWAII 5-0 are the two reasons I want to travel to Hawaii and be one of the 5-0 team and learn how to surf, too. Emily, B2

Skiing The topic I chose to write about is skiing. I have been skiing for 2 years. Now, I am very good at it. I usually go skiing on Kaimaktsalan. In the morning, I go skiing at 11 o’clock and I stop at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. I feel very tired after skiing!!! The other day we were listening to music on YouTube and we heard some of Mozart’s music by chance. We liked it because we think it’s peaceful and beautiful. It makes us feel happy and relaxed. Amadeus Mozart was born in 1756 in Salzburg, Austria. Mozart was Johann George Leopold Mozart’s and Anna Maria Walburga’s son. He had an older sister, the only one who survived. She was called Anna Maria and she was a composer, too. Mozart was christened on the next day of his birth. The birth date gave him his name in Latin Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart. The first two names show that the day of his birth, was Saint Chrysostomus’ celebration. Wolfgang was his grandfather’s name, who was the father of Mozart’s mother. Theophilus was his godfather’s name who was a merchant. At the age of four Amadeus began piano lessons and by the age of five he started composing. His father wrote down the music for him. In the following years, he went around Europe with his father. He gave concerts in the palaces of Europe. Soon, Mozart became famous. Sadly on 5th December 1791 Mozart died at the age of 35. Amadeus Mozart is the best musician in the world. Once upon a time there was a small town, Selestia. It was near the chocolate forest and a pink river. Selestia had only 60 people who lived there. Everyone enjoyed living in Selestia except for one young girl, Snow White. One day Snow White went to the supermarket to buy a bar of chocolate. When she was on the way back home she met Lalaloopsy and Barbie. Snow White was surprised when she looked at them. They were unhappy because they said that some Robots took their friend Selena Gomez to their castle! Snow White was so sad about this! She wanted to save her friend but she couldn’t do it alone. Suddenly, her mobile phone rung. It was Kung Fu Panda and he said that he was near Selestia and he wanted to come to see his friends. Snow White told him about the bad news and he said that he would come to help them save Selena Gomez. They all agreed and went to the Robots’ castle. When they arrived at the Robots’ castle, Snow White and Kung Fu Panda fought against the Robots. Lalaloopsy and Barbie took Selena Gomez and they all went back to Selestia! Snow White realised that she was safe in Selestia so she wanted to live there forever!
