Over 150 related types of viruses
• Most common STI in the world
• More than 40 types can infect the genitals of males and females
•The most dangerous types of HPV can be prevented

Spread through skin-to-skin contact
•Mostly through oral, anal and vaginal sex
•Most people don’t show symptoms
•Anyone who has ever had sex is at risk of having HPV

90% of the time the infection clears on it’s own. But if it doesn’t...

• 360,000 cases of genital warts
• 11,000 cervical cancer cases
Nearly EVERY person who has sex will have one type of HPV during
their lives!

How do I get tested?
The Pap-HPV Test•Usually done at the same time
•The test collects cells from your cervix to check for abnormal cells
•It also sends a sample to the lab to find out if the HPV virus is present

What does that mean?
No cell changes were found in your cervix
Your cervical cells look like they could be abnormal
This may or may not be related to HPV
Cell changes were found in your cervix
The changes were caused by HPV
You probably DO NOT have cervical cancer
What should I do? Keep up with your annual Pap Test to make sure your cells stay this way
Get an HPV Test to see what caused the cell changes
Minor changes will usually go away on their own
More serious changes should be monitored by your doctor
So there’s a pretty good chance you’ll encounter at least 1 type of
HPV in your life…
But how can you prevent more serious forms of HPV that cause cancer and warts?

Vaccinate with the 3-dose series! • Gardasil ® 9 protects against the nine strains of HPV that cause:
Cervical Cancer 90%
