    Treasurer’s Report February 29, 2016

We seem to have left our Winter season behind and Spring

is the time for new beginnings and inspiration. Where do you

get your inspirations? They can come from talking to people

    – last month new member Pamela Stephens turned me on to

Pat Sloan’s Splendid Sampler. A series of 6 inch blocks on

the internet. The blocks are introduced twice a week and

there will be a total of 100 blocks. Quilters all over the world

have been posting their interpretation of the blocks.

Our speakers have been inspirational. Melinda Bula’s

flower quilts are a good example. Many of you were inspired

by Carol Balch’s presentation at the March meeting. They

were samples of quilts that Carol taught to our guild in the

past. Each month our “Show and Tell” provides multiple

inspirations and ideas as we see what members have been

working on. Please don’t be shy about bringing your work.

We quilters always enjoy seeing each others projects.

There are two quilt shows coming up in early April that are

bound to create a spark of inspiration. April 8 and 9 Gulf

States Quilting Association presents its show in Slidell, Lou-

isiana at the North Shore Harbor Center. The next weekend

(April 15 & 16) the Pensacola Quilters Guild has their bien-

nial show at the Interstate Fairground on Mobile Highway.

Thanks to the wonderful group of quilters who gathered at

Springhill Baptist activity center to make Linus quilts. I’m

sure many will be displayed at show and tell this month. The

quilters all worked on kits there and took another kit home

with them. Kits are still available – see Nancy Lancaster for

    details.

Happy Spring --- be inspired !

    BABY SHOWER

Our Special Events Chair Jean Foots has

a very special event happening in her life

in May. Her first great grandson is due on

May 29th. She has been active in Old

Sew & Sews for a couple of years and we will be having

a brunch/shower at my home on April 22 at 10am for

them. I know that many of you will be on the bus to

Paducah that day, but I wanted to offer you an opportu-

nity to bless Jean and her granddaughter with some

items to help them start this new phase of their

lives. All are welcome to attend at my home 1505

Ridgeland Rd. E - near Grelot and Hillcrest - and bring

a little something to help her granddaughter get

started. If you cannot attend and would like to help

with one bigger gift, please see me to contrib-

ute. Please RSVP to give me some idea how many we

will need to feed. Joyce Reed 634-0256

  • President Janet Beaverstock called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.

    and welcomed everyone.

The inspiration was given by Bonnie Johnson.

The minutes were approved as reported in the newsletter.

Ramona Thompson reported the treasury balance as of February 29,

    2016 was $6,170.83.

Susan Mogan advised 65 members and one guest, Cynthia Williams,

were in attendance. The total guild membership now stands at 209.

Susan is thinking of starting a coffee get-together to introduce new

members to programs, activities and members of the guild. Susan also

suggested a buddy or mentor be paired with new members. There was

one suggestion in the Suggestion Box: to set up a table at each meeting

for quilting items members no longer need or want to give away at the

    meeting.

Barbara Smith advised the March workshop will held at the Springhill

Baptist Church Activities Center. This will be the location of the

monthly workshops going forward. The March workshop will be free

and the project will be working on Linus Quilts. Kits will be available.

Susan Mogan will teach a Design and Color Theory workshop on March

    29. Janice Andrews will teach the May workshop on Stained Glass.

Janie Lloyd and Mary Warfield will teach the June workshop on the

    EQ7 computer software.

Susan Digman announced two books have been added to the library:

Totes and Bags by Susan Marsh and 110 Quilted Potholders by Linda

Causee and Rita Weiss. Georgia McCain highlighted books and DVDs

that are part of the guild’s library.

Judy Reeves announced donations of Stonehenge fabrics and money

are being accepted for the basket to be given to the GSQA for the Rose-

bud Luncheon and Auction to be held April 2, 2016 in Kenner, LA. The

GSQA Quilt Show will be held in Slidell, LA on April 8 and 9. The

quarterly meeting of GSQA will be held on April 23. If you join GSQA,

please give Judy your membership number and expiration date. Judy

Reeves advised forty-one members are participating in the annual Reso-

    lutions with 174 resolutions pledged.

Jean Foots, Special Activities, advised the guild sold eighty-three

tickets for the Off-Year Opportunity Quilt at the Spring Inspiration held

March 4 and 5 at the Dauphin Way Baptist Church. The next special

event will be held at the West Mobile Baptist Church on April 30. Volunteers will be needed.

Joyce Reed asked for quilting volunteers for five to six Quilts of

Valor. The next presentation of Quilts of Valor will be at the Senior

    Center on May 25 at 9:30 a.m.

Janet Beaverstock announced (and heartily thanked!) Georgia

McCain and Ann Singleton for volunteering to chair the Quilt Show.

Carol Peterson also volunteered as an assistant. Georgia advised the

show will be scaled back from the 2015 show and the committee is

seeking a church or a school as the venue. Georgia and Ann reminded

the guild as to the need for lots of volunteers to make the Quilt Show a

success and they know the members will step forward to assist.

Susan Mogan also announced the quilt challenge for 2016—Black

and White, Plus One. The challenge quilts will be presented at the

    July meeting.

The Art Quilt Group has an exhibit on the third floor of the Univer-

sity of South Alabama’s Library through the end of March.

Lola Terranova shared Tootsie Roll Banks, donated by Jewel Beck-

ner, to be used for the pennies donated to the Children’s Advocacy

    Center.

Ann Singleton advised $85.00 was collected by Ways and Means,

and five gifts were won by Juanita Gregorius, Lola Terranova, Cheryl

    Cadigan and Carolyn Weaver.

Susan Garrett announced 460 tickets have been sold for the Off-

    Year Opportunity Quilt.

The Pensacola Quilt show will take place April 15 and 16 at the

    Fair Grounds.

Approximately twenty Show and Tell quilts were shared.

Wilma Toney introduced this month’s program—A Trunk Show by

Carol Balch, a member of our guild. The quilts were beautiful and

    inspirational.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:15 a.m.

    Respectfully submitted,

    Susan Holler
