The United Nations World Health Organisation (WHO) defines health as “not just absence of disease: it is the state of physical, mental, social and spiritual well being” which finds resonance with the definition of health found in the Ayurvedic texts written thousands of years back. To deliver effective healthcare and well-being to its people has always been a significant challenge for any society. Chronic Non- communicable diseases (CNCDs) are responsible for millions of deaths across the world, and a major part of the damage would be borne by the low and middle income countries including the number of premature deaths. According to an estimate, India alone has lost $237 billion of national income and more due to CNCDs over the last ten years. For China it’s $ 558 billion and for Russia the figure is $ 303 billion. The limitations and costs of high-tech modern medicine to prevent and reverse chronic diseases are becoming evident at a time when the pathologies caused by lifestyle changes are being better documented. Children are more at risk than adults for lifestyle maladies. Therefore at a time when the solutions of the deemed incurable or irreversible conditions seem far from sight to the contemporary medicine, to address the challenges in an effective and efficient manner, the principles and practice of Ayurveda can offer a better, cost effective, time tested radical solutions to many debilitating, life threatening to degenerative conditions. A right diagnosis is the prerequisite for any correct treatment. Ayurveda having “swasthasya swasthya rakshanam: aturasya vikar prashamanam cha” as its ethos offers to address the root causes of these problems and thereby, it is more likely to solve it. Its results are manifested quickly with right medicines, correct eating and with right lifestyle. The 2nd International Conference on Ayurveda would be organized Jointly by the Ayush Darpan Foundation and Trilok Ayurveda wellness centre on 3rd and 4th October 2015 in Rishikesh, India. The aim of the conference is to create awareness about and advocate for the Ayurvedic cures that are available for CNCDs. We hope that the conference would be the first step to help the stakeholders, policymakers, academicians, and public at large to take action to utilize Ayurveda and its holistic treatments to deal with CNCDs and to create a healthier world. All are welcome to Ayush Darpan Foundation/Trilok Ayurveda Wellness Centre, Rishikesh,India. Rishikesh is a small town and a municipal board in Dehradun district in the northern state of Uttarakhand in India. Scenically located where the Holy Ganges River comes down from the Himalayas.

Rishikesh, also spelled Hrishikesh, Rushikesh or Hrushikesh.Rishikesh catapulted to Western fame when the Beatles

dropped by for a visit to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s Ashram. Rishikesh is associated with Lord Rama and Laxman.

The town of Rishikesh lies in the foothills of the Himalayas of the Garhwal region. It is the gateway to the upper Garhwal region and the starting point for the Char Dham pilgrimage (Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath) and an ideal destination not only for pilgrims but also for the people who are interested in adventure, medtation, yoga and other aspects of Hinduism.

Rishikesh, also known as the “Place of Sagas” is a spiritual town situated 24 kms upstream from Haridwar, at the confluence of the Chandrabhaga and Ganga and surrounded by scenic beauty of the hills on three sides. The whole place is considered to be sacred as it is believed that meditation at this place leads to attainment of salvation. There are many temples-some ancient, some new along the river Ganges. The River side is dotted by the ashrams of Sadhus and Sages. Rishikesh represents the site where Vishnu vanquished the demon Madhu. Rishikesh is appearing as the Adventure Capital of India for the adventure seekers as it is the suggested place for starting their trekking expeditions to the Himalayan Peaks and for the White River Rafting. Also, International Yoga week which attracts participation from across the world, is held here, every year, in February on the banks of the holy Ganga.
