THE VENUE:Underground Arts is a new 600 capacity basement venue located in North Philadelphia. It has a great ambience for any party with its cool dim lighting and multiple bar areas. It is perfect for intimate shows of all genres. Underground Arts offers a setting for a wide variety of performance types – theater, performance art, music, comedy, poetry, dance, etc. The ultimate goal of Underground Arts is to provide an outlet for talented, emerging, often experimental, struggling artists to have their voices heard, develop a following and, ultimately, to be able to make their livings from their art.

THE DEMOGRAPHIC:The demographic of people that came out for Philly’s Axe ONO seemed to be mostly college age males and females with a good mix of each. Most seemed to be die hard hip hop fans but there were also some that just wanted to see what was going on at this exclusive party. They all dressed in their prime party attire despite the cold and everyone was buzzing about the artists and having a good time all night.

THE SHOW:I arrived at the venue about an hour before doors and people were already lining up outside, eager to be the first ones into the party. I passed out tickets to the winners of the contest I coordinated with the Daily Beat blog and The Correspondence blog and they all showed up early to claim their tickets. Before doors the line was even around the block. Once we went inside Underground Arts, the venue was decked out with Axe banners, projectors, promo materials, and cool mood lighting. DJ Spinking immediately got the crowd going as everyone piled in and started to loosen up. There was steady excitement from the crowd throughout the party, enhanced only by the performances of guest artists Meek Mill and Wale. Meek Mill took the stage first and the crowd was screaming along and jumping up and down to his tracks. Wale’s set was later but also a highlight for partygoers.

I also recommended that the AXE Reps hit up a well-known Thursday night party “No New Friends” at the Saint Lazarus bar in North Philly to give out tickets. I hooked them up with my friend who was DJing and they said it was a success and they had passed out around 33 pairs.
