ABOUT AWIS SAN DIEGOMission Statement AWIS is a national organization dedicated to achieving equity and full participation of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The AWIS-San Diego chapter was established in the mid 1980s and currently has over 350 active members. It is one of the largest and most active chapters in the country. Our diverse membership includes students, post-docs, professors, entry-level interns and CEOs, patent attorneys as well as business entrepreneurs. Over 60% of the membership holds a doctoral degree. Our members participate in the San Diego science community in many ways, including, but are not limited to, research, teaching, administration, patent law, scientific writing, and consulting, in venues from academia, to government, to business and industry.

Programs • The biennial Women in Science and Technology (WIST) Conference brings together

members of the scientific community for a day-long workshop to advance professional skills.

• Our scholarship program has awarded approximately $40,000 in four years to local young women in support of their scientific education and training.

• Monthly Strategy Sessions, seminars, and social events provide multiple forums for personal and professional development and networking.

• Mentoring programs and outreach activities at the K-12 level provide a way for members to serve the community and inspire the next generation.

• AWIS-SD committees offer members volunteer and leadership opportunities for further professional development.

Sponsorship • Funding from corporate sponsors is vital to support scholarships, outreach activities,

and events such as the AWIS-SD Scholars Celebration and WIST Conference.

• Four basic levels of sponsorship are offered, from Bronze through Platinum ($1,000 through $10,000), with a discounted Platinum+ level ($25,000) for Platinum level sponsors that commit to a three year term. The benefits available are fully customizable and can be chosen as part of a package or a la carte.

• Companies benefit from sponsoring AWIS-SD in many ways, including recognition at events, in the newsletter and AWIS-SD website, job postings on AWIS-SD website, and sponsor employee discounts or complimentary admissions to AWIS-SD events to name a few of our customizable benefit options, see next page for detailed information.

THE AWIS-SD SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM: Sponsors pick benefits from a specific tier based on the level of sponsorship. The following benefits are included at all levels. ‣ All sponsors get recognition on the AWIS-SD website, bi-weekly event emails, and bi-monthly Newsletter. ‣ All sponsors Silver and up get logo recognition on AWIS-SD website with link to company website. ‣ Sponsor employees get admission to WIST conference and Scholars Celebration events at member rates. ‣ Up to 4 sponsor employees are invited to attend, at no charge, specific AWIS-SD events (see calendar on next

DISTRIBUTION OF FUNDS A large percentage of our funds go towards our scholarship program and the full day WIST conference or Scholarship Gala. The pie chart reflects expenses incurred within a WIST-hosted year. Funds are also channeled towards other events such as strategy sessions, networking and f a m i l y e v e n t s , a n d o u t r e a c h programs. Our administrative costs are negligible. We are a 100% volunteer run organization.
