“Through his efforts in patient care, teaching, and scientific Investigation, he set in motion processes

that would carry us to a position of national recognition and prominence in otolaryngology.”

Glenn E. Peters, MD

On September 6, 2006, in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary, Dr. and Mrs. Julius N. Hicks endowed the Ann B. and Julius N. Hicks Lectureship in Otolaryngology to help support education in Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Hicks directed the Division of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery, from 1985 to 1992. He passed away on January 5, 2009, at the age of 80.

Dr. Hicks earned his medical degree from Duke Medical School and completed his residency at Harvard University’s Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He joined the UAB faculty in 1960 and retired in 1992. “Dr. Hicks will always be remembered as the driving force behind our program,” said Glenn E. Peters, MD.

This lectureship is a tribute to Dr. and Mrs. Hicks in appreciation for all the personal and professional contributions they have made to the department and to resident education. It continues to provide distinguished guest speakers from throughout the country to assist in the education of the residents.

We are honored to have Mrs. Hicks, her family, and friends continue to attend this important event as we remember Dr. Hicks.
