Mexico tops the table as the largest producer of avocados globally.

New Zealand’s production in 2013-14 was 26,933 tonnes, with 17,248 exported.

The high production in Mexico is reflected in high consumption domestically as well.

Average consumption globally increasing from 0.36kg per capita to 0.66 kg per capita is a great story

New Zealand sits in the middle of avocado consumption per capita

New Zealand is the 9th largest avocado exporter globally. These figures reflect our 2014-15 volume of 4.5m export trays or 24,678

tonnes export, 39,103 tonnes export and NZ market.

The big players dominate total export trade

New Zealand’s growth shows strongly here – as we went from a medium sized year to our biggest ever crop in 2014-15.

The US remains by far the largest importer of avocado.

China holds top spot here but the growth is off a very low value

Annual growth rates in double figures over ten years is a fantastic result for the avocado industry globally.
