Monica De Rango (2014 DUX) – 98. 90 Biology (Year 11, 2013), Chemistry, English, Italian, Specialist Mathematics, Mathematical Methods
Monica has been a highly committed student in all her subjects displaying an intellectual maturity well beyond her years. Her academic success was celebrated at the Avila Presentation Evening when she was awarded Academic Excellence in Chemistry, Italian, Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics. She was also awarded the Sr Josepha Dunlop Christian Leadership Award, which recognised her extraordinary commitment to Christian servant leadership in her role as College Vice Captain and her unabashed willingness to support students across all year levels.
Monica’s contribution to school life has been extensive over the six years she has attended the College. She has participated in numerous co-curricular events most notably as a public speaker and debater and through extensive involvement in, and contribution to, extra curricular music in the School Orchestra, String Ensemble and the Rock Band. She
also enthusiastically participated in the sporting life of the school. Monica’s concern for social justice was apparent in her involvement with numerous fund raising events and through her commitment to Indigenous Reconciliation.
Monica is much admired by staff and peers for her dedication to all endeavours she participates in, her calm and diligent approach to study and her humble, dignified nature. Monica hopes to pursue tertiary study in the field of Science and Engineering.
Avila College acknowledges the Wurundjeri people, the traditional custodians of the land on which the College is built.

achieved an ATAR score of 98.90.
• Over 42% of our graduates were placed in the top 20% of the State.
• We congratulate Tahlia Spano, who achieved a perfect score of 50 for Health and Human Development.

Stephanie Halliday - 98.10 Biology (Year 11, 2013), Chemistry, Classical Studies, English, French, Mathematical Methods
Stephanie has demonstrated an exceptional ability across a variety of subjects covering Humanities, Mathematics and Science. Her academic success is attributed to a desire to achieve excellence, and a diligent application to study by engaging in self-motivated, independent learning.
Stephanie is a talented musician and she made significant contributions to the Music Department by being involved in the College Orchestra, String Orchestra, String Ensemble and Senior Ensemble.
Stephanie’s self assured approach, and her genuine love for all her subjects ensured success. Stephanie hopes to pursue Pharmacy at Monash University in 2015.
Deanna Apostolopoulos- 97.90 Health and Human Development (Year 11, 2013), English, Geography, History: Revolutions, Physical Education, Global Politics
Deanna approached all her studies in a determined and diligent manner. As a humanities student she demonstrated sophisticated intellectual insights and the ability to evaluate and analyse theories using higher order thinking. Her success can also be attributed to a willingness to work independently, to seek advice from her teachers and to be pro-active in how she approached all tasks.
Deanna also contributed to the extra-curricular life of the school through her involvement in the debating, public speaking and music programmes at the College. She was also a yearbook editor throughout her senior years. Deanna hopes to pursue studies in Arts/Law at tertiary level.
Tahlia Spano- 97.00 History: Revolutions (Year 11, 2013), English, Health and Human Development, Italian, Mathematical Methods, Psychology
Tahlia is to be congratulated in achieving a perfect score in Health and Human Development. She has been an enthusiastic and well organised student in all her VCE studies. She demonstrated a particular interest in the social sciences ensuring that her knowledge and skills were developed over the course of the whole year.
Tahlia demonstrated her love of study by happily sharing her knowledge with her peers. Tahlia hopes to pursue Occupational Therapy at LaTrobe University next year.
