Julie Vose, MD, MBA, FASCO

Dr. Vose is the Neumann M. and Mildred E. Harris Professorial Chair and current Chief of the Oncology/Hematology Division in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. An internationally known expert in lymphoma, Dr. Vose has served in many national/international review panels and administrative positions in various organizations. She is a member of the Nebraska Lymphoma Study Group and the current co-program leader of the Hematologic Malignancy Program at the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center. Dr. Vose has published over 300 articles and has served on the editorial board of hematology and oncology journals.

Melissa Hudson, MD

Dr. Hudson is Director of the Cancer Survivorship Division, co-leader of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program, and a member of the Department of Oncology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She has served as the Director of the After Completion of Therapy Clinic since 1993, which now monitors over 5,000 long-term childhood cancer survivors treated on St. Jude clinical trials. Dr. Hudson is currently the Pediatric Associate Editor for the Journal of Clinical Oncology. Her research interests include protocol development and clinical investigations in Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the late effects of cancer therapy, and health education in childhood cancer survivors.

Brian Leyland-Jones, MB BS, PhD

An internationally renowned breast cancer expert, Dr. Leyland-Jones is Vice President of Molecular and Experimental Medicine for Avera Cancer Institute Sioux Falls. He is a Consulting Professor for the Division of Oncology at Stanford University School of Medicine in California. In addition, Dr. Leyland-Jones is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Nursing, University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. Previously, he’s held positions all over the world, including the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, Canada; the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.; and the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Ga.

Benjamin Solomon, MD

Dr. Solomon is a Medical Oncologist at Avera Medical Group Oncology & Hematology Sioux Falls and Avera Cancer Institute Center for Precision Oncology. He serves as Medical Information Officer for the Avera Oncology Service Line. He earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Mayo Clinic. A practicing clinician at Avera and Academic Assistant Professor at The University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine in Vermillion, Dr. Solomon has particular interest in molecular profiling of cancer and EMR implementation and optimization.

Jennifer McKay, MD

Dr. McKay is a Hospitalist and Medical Information Officer at Avera Health. She received her medical degree from The University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine in Vermillion, and completed her internal medicine residency at Washington University in St. Louis. When she began her Avera career, she started a hospital medicine group which has grown to 18 physicians, six nurse practitioners and sees more than 10,000 patients annually. With a master’s degree in health care quality and patient safety from Northwestern University in Chicago, she is strategic, disciplined and inventive in patient safety and quality improvement.

PURPOSEThe Avera Cancer Institute Oncology Symposium is designed to enhance collaboration between the provider and the multidisciplinary team in caring for individuals with cancer across the continuum of care.

TARGET AUDIENCEPhysicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, dosimetrists, radiologic technologists, radiation therapists, chaplains, community members and other interested health care professionals.

CONTINUING EDUCATIONTo receive credit:• Sign in for each sessionPhysician: Avera is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Application has been made for continuing medical education.

Nursing: Avera Health is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Alabama State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
