ASTRAL AT AVC AVC Times Newsletter Private circulation only February 2018 'ASTRAL', the annual inter-collegiate cultural fest was hosted on 23rd February 2018 in the college premises. The fest provided a wider arena to unearth the talents of the younger generation. The On-stage events were Steal the Show and Step Hoppers, while the off- stage events included Master Chef, Mesmerizing Brides, Fancy Workshop, Bio Taller, Time and Talent, Think to Link, Innovative Disenadores and Vasana oli Nadippu. 'Aruvi' film Heroine Ms.Aditi Balan was the Chief Guest for the inaugural function. It was a star studded programme with an array of celebrities from both silver screen and small screen like Mr. Kalaiarasan(Actor), Mr.Tanson(Drums), Ms. Preethi Reddy(Model), Ms.Ritu Varma(Actress), Mr.Arun&Mr.Aravind twins (Co-Directors of Vijay TV), Mr.Daniel(Actor), Mr. Praveen and his troupe (Fifth element), Mr. Theenadayalan(Zee Tamil Chef), Mrs. Ramaniyammal(Rock star-Singer), Mr.Akshay Partha(Adithya Channel), Dance Jodi Dance Mr. Deva, Ms.Deepika(Model), Mr. K. Vijay(Adithya Channel), Mr.Uma Shankar(Ghatam Musician), Mr.Sundar(Choreographer), Ms.Shobana Ramesh(Classical Dancer), Ms.Shifath Fathima(Beautician), Mr.Saran(Actor), Ms.Priya(Beautician),Mirchi fame Mr.Jai Ganesh, Mr. Shiva, Ms. Kala Kalyani(Actress), Ms.Latha Krishna(Singer), Mr.Lingesh(Actor), Mr. Sathish(Dancer), Mr. Harsha Varthan(Director) and Dr.Arumugam(University of Madras). The programme was interspersed with some scintillating host performances by the students of Annai Veilankanni's Educational Institutions and LAAB crew, the winners of kings of Dance Season 2, conducted by Vijay TV. An enviable strength of 300 students from 27colleges in and around Chennai participated in the fest. Attractive cash prizes worth Rs.1,00,000/- and Trophies were awarded to them. The Prestigious Rolling Trophy of Astral was bagged by Guru Nanak College. The programme was powered by the Media Partner Polimer, Vendar, DT News and Tamil oli News TV. JOB FAIR 2018

A mega Job Fair was organized on 17th of

February, 2018. Fr. Dr.S. Ignacimuthu,

S.J., (Former Vice Chancellor , University

of Madras and Bharathiyar University)

Director Entomology Research Institute,

Loyola College, Chennai was the Chief

Guest. Placement Cell of AVC organized

placement training for a week prior to the

Job Fair and had invited around 33 prominent companies like ICICI

Academy, Radan Technologies, Dev Tech Systems, TATA strive, First

Source, Mahindra Pride, Vertex, Mpower Young India etc..to take part in

the Job Fair. Around 850 students including Alumni of AVC participated

DENGUE AWARENESS PROGRAMME

The Rotaract Club was inaugurated at

Annai Veilankanni's College on

14/02/2018 . Rev. Fr. Jegath Gaspar ,

Founder, Tamil Maiyam gave an

affable speech regarding social service.

Mrs. S. Kala, Assistant Professor,

(Computer Applications) introduced

the office bearers of the Rotaract Club.

Installation of President and Office bearers was initiated by the Chief

Guest Rtn. R. Srinivasan, District Governor. Ms. S. Sivagami Sundhari,

Rotaract Club President presented the Action Plan for 2017-18. Pledge was

administered by Rtn. Pradeep, direct Youth Service and followed by

Rotaract club President and office bearers. Rtn. V. Punniyamoorthy,

President rendered the special address. Rtr. Danakoti, D.R. Representive

and Rtn. Tamilselvan, Director, Youth Service addressed the gathering.

Ms.N. Rekha, Student, Secretary, Rotaract Club proposed the Vote of

thanks.

ROTARACT CLUB INAUGURATION

As per the directives of the Govt of Tamil Nadu, NSS Units of the college participated i n t h e Dengue Awareness Programme conducted in the college premises on 9.2.18.

LEGAL AWARENESS PROGRAMMEOur NSS volunteers participated in the Legal Awareness P r o g r a m m e organized by the D i s t r i c t L e g a l Services Authority at Jafferkhanpet and learnt about new legal services.

DRUMS SIVAMANI LIVE-IN CONCERT HOPE 2018

L e t s r e b u i l d Kanyakumari – Drums Sivamani Live-in Concert Hope 2018 (Fund raising event for Ockhi Cyclone Victims in Kanyakumari) was organized at SBOA School and Junior College, Annanagar West on 18th Feb 2018, Our management along with staff and students participated and supported the cause by offering financial and emotional support.

COMPETITIVE STUDIES PROGRAMME Dr.V.Vijay Anand Sriram, Chief Executive Officer, RIPE Consulting

Services, Pvt. Ltd., inaugurated the programme. The Syllabus was framed

for 30 hours encompassing of Quantitative Aptitude, Career Prospects,

Awareness on Competitive Studies, General English, Science, History,

Gen. Awareness, Reasoning, SWOT Analysis, Interview Etiquettes etc.

During the first two days of the programme a team from Eva Stalin IAS

Academy gave an Orientation on Competitive Studies and Job Skills. Staff

members from various disciplines of our college were allotted the topics

along with a schedule to be taken for the final year students. On

completion of the programme, the students gave positive feedback about

the programme in the General Assembly.

SOFT SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAMME

Soft skills training committee conducted job oriented

training programme for the second year students of all

disciplines. The topics discussed were Stress management,

Time management, Leadership skill, Body language,

Problem solving skill, Decision making, Attending

interviews, Addressing the gathering, Group discussion,

Guidelines to make presentation and Listening skills.

Students have opined that the program was very useful and

they have gained an insight into the specific job oriented

skills which they hoped would boost up their morale during

their job hunt in today's competitive world.

An NGO named 'Samarthanam' collaborated with the soft

skill training committee of Annai Veilankanni's College for

women to offer a week long pre-placement training for the

final year students of all disciplines prior to the job fair

conducted on 17-2-2018.The volunteers from the

organisation gave training to our students on various

subjects such as Interview skills, Body language, Power point

presentation, Current affairs and Public speaking.Mr.Arun

Kumar who had qualified in the Civil Service

Examination(Mains) gave an inspiring speech on cracking

the coveted IAS Examinatiin by offering many useful tips to

our students.Mr.Edwin of 'Samarthanam' organisation co-

ordinated the program.The sessions were very interactive

and informative.The students found the sessions to be very useful to attend the job fair

with confidence.Value added courses were conducted for first year students of all

disciplines. The courses such as Silambam, Spoken Hindi, Spoken English, Basic

Etiquettes, Karate, Mobile Computing, MS – Office, Fine arts, Beautician Courses and

Yoga were conducted:

Women Lawyers was the Chief Guest of the programme. She delivered a speech on
