PEARLS OF THE OCEAN

I am always with you and I am not away from you. I was, I am and I will remain

eternally with you. You can never escape from Me and if you try to escape from

Me, it is not possible to get rid of Me.

Come together in order to fulfill My will by taking your stand on truth, love

and honesty and be worthy of participation. I give you all My blessings for

spreading My message of love.

Cling to Me, rely on Me. Throughout your life, not just this life but the many

life times you have been gambling. You think you have plenty of time, but you

never know just when you might die. So, since you are gamblers, why don’t you

gamble on this: surrender, hold tight to My daaman. You won’t be a loser.

If you come to Me, accept Me, then your life with Me is registered forever. I

will help you to evoke that love of God within you and also I shall help you

cultivate that conviction about the existence of God and about My being the

personification of God as the Avatar, and there is no reason for you to go

anywhere. You are not to seek the friendship of any saint or guru at all.

Forget yourself, remember Me. This will help you to lead a spiritual life. I tell

you to love Me because I am the Ocean of Love. I am everywhere in each drop.

So it is given to every drop to participate in My divine sport and to find its way

of loving Me. Honest and wholehearted effort will help you to find your

personal path leading to Me. Everything else may fail; but Love never fails.

My loving remembrance will gradually awaken discrimination in you, which will

give you the required strength. Just think how many times you have assumed

male and female forms, how many children you had, how much you have

worried over them and that it was all self created. If you think you are bound,

bound you are. With trust in Me if you think you are free, free you are. Don’t

lose heart. Remember Me.

No sooner you begin to love those whom you cannot love, you begin to love

Me as I should be loved. To love those whom you cannot not hate is natural,

but to love those whom you cannot love is to love Me as I should be loved. Love Me in everyone. Serve Me in each other. Make Me your companion by

constant remembrance of My name.

Do the best you can. Don’t worry. Be happy. Face life boldly. Do not try to

become an escapist. Whenever you find yourself helpless, you call Me for help

and I am prepared to give it to you. I am in everyone, I love everyone. You love

Me and that establishes a bridge between you and destiny but I can bring a lot

of modifications. I am the Ocean of Energy, Ocean of Love and Ocean of

Everything. If you link yourself with Me even with a small pipeline you can draw

all the energy for yourself.

To come to Me means liberation, experiencing Me as I am, no more bondage

of births and deaths. But it does not mean the state of a Perfect Master or

Perfection. That is only to be attained while alive in the gross body. So, if you

are not blessed with the state of perfection (while in the body) at least you can

have liberation (after the body drops). After attaining liberation you continue to

experience Infinite Bliss eternally. You experience what belonged to you

eternally.

Because I love you so much, I harass you so much. This harassment is my

Prasad for you and My grace. It is My real mercy which descends only on a very

few, a select few. These are my friends. They are My lovers to whom I give the

gift of sorrow and distress. This gift is only for My beloved children. For my

friends; I kill them and it is My highest mercy on them. We Masters can give a

world of gold, happiness and prosperity to others by our blessings. But this rare

gift of privations, troubles and sufferings is destined only for a select few.

In order to be infinitely merciful, I have to be infinitely cruel. Those whom I

love most, I destroy.

Remember whosoever forms a friendship with Me, loses everything, even

the self. Come only with the longing to give Me your all: body, mind and

possessions, with all attachments.

Accept what God gives you with firm faith, love and grace. Then you will find

peace and strength.

You can rely on Me and leave everything to Me but do not make it conditional.

I am the Power House. The Power House will never fail provided one is careful

about the connection with it.

When My lovers one-pointedly call on Me, I dare not ignore them. I am the

Slave of the love of My lovers.

I reside in your heart and am dozing. If you often think of Me and call Me, I

remain awake and will not sleep.

Whenever you are in difficulty or have a problem, think of Me and call Me

honestly and I am always ready to help you. But you should do your duties

honestly and sincerely to the best of your ability and I will guide you and always

be by your side in all that you do.

Whatever I do is only for your own good in the long run. This is certain and

do not have any doubt about this. Have supreme faith in Me.

Remember Me constantly and wholeheartedly, all the time while attending

to your daily duties. This is the best form of mediation and is most natural and

spontaneous.

Love the One in the many, not the many in the One. Real happiness lies in

Oneness. Wherever there is duality, there is trouble.

Be ever present with God, never be absent from Him. Nothing is real but

God. Nothing matters but love for God.

Godhood is the birthright of everyone. Everyone is an atheist till he realizes

God.

The human body is the worst prison on earth. Get rid of aimlessness in life.

Lepers are beautiful birds in ugly cages.

Craving is the cause of all suffering. Wanting is the source of perpetual

restlessness.

Modesty is weakness. Humility is strength. What is known as virtue and sin

are nothing but strength and weakness.

There will always be disagreement. One has to give in and must try hard.

All religions are revelations of God.

Sahavas is the intimacy of give and take of love.

Intellect must go before knowledge dawns.

Relation between Master and disciple is carried on through several lives.

Love if exposed is an insult to the love.

Self lost is freedom gained.

Hatred is appeased by non-hatred.

Anger is reversed love.

Hate none but your lustful self.

Non-violence means love infinite.

Learn to say no to desires.

Desire for nothing; except desirelessness; the state of desirelessness or non

wanting is a faculty latent in everyone. It is within you and you must find it out.

Life is a game of hide and seek.

Don’t lure God; just love Him.

Oneness leads to happiness.

Seek solitude within; not outside.

All narrowness limits love.

Faith never argues.

Ezad means the One who is the first, God the Omnipotent, Omnipresent and

Omniscient.

Philosophy is that which makes a simple thing difficult.

The love that the aspirant has for his Master is the response evoked by the

love of the Master.

You are anything that you want to be.

Poise is that state of mind where nothing excites you and nothing upsets you.

Only the one who loves can serve.

It is better to deny God than to defy God.

Forgiving is the best charity.

Do not try to conquer others. Conquer yourself and you have conquered the

world.

If you are indifferent to your material responsibilities, then you are indifferent

to God.

The dirty body which I call the human latrine is used for the soul to realize

itself.

Love is dynamic in action and contagious in effect.

The more you discuss God, the less you understand Him. God cannot be

explained. God can only be lived.

Be bound by freedom. Be attached to detachment.

Divinity includes all that is beautiful and gracious.

Real Silence is true meditation. Real Silence is Infinite Consciousness.

The direct path to God is the path of love.

To those whose hearts are pure and simple, true love comes as a gift from

God.

The law of karma is an expression of justice. It is a reflection of the unity of

life in a world of duality.

Everything happens by the will of God and is necessary.

Live in the world and yet not be of it. Live in the world and play your part.

Renounce the world within your heart.

Every heart is a temple.

God is for those who are not for themselves.

You are required to go a little against you mind.

Suffering comes according to the divinely established law of karma.

The worst scoundrels are better than hypocritical saints.

Treat your circumstances like a life buoy and it will not let you sink.

Be honest with God.

The more you want, the more you are miserable.

Happiness given is the biggest happiness received.

Masts (God intoxicated persons) are grown up babies.

The best worker is he who is able to evoke love for Baba in others.

Love is the reflection of God’s unity in the world of duality.

People suffer because they are not satisfied and want more and more.

To find God is to find one’s Self.

Death is only an incident in life.

It is not given to everybody to be a lover of God.

It is infinitely better to hope for the best than to fear for the worst.

One who loves God has only one longing, one worry and that is to become

one with God.

There is no power greater than love.

Eliminate self-interest and you will solve all your problems; individual and

social. The root cause of all difficulties, individual and social, is self-interest.

Complete absence of selfishness is the true characteristic and real test of pure

love.

When your sight turns within, the search for God begins.

Owing to your ignorance, God who is nearest appears to be farthest from

you.

The true lover with-holds nothing from himself: he neither bargains nor

doubts.

Yoga originally meant the annihilation of the ego by control of the senses.

Spiritual understanding is born of harmony between mind and heart.

Sorrow of death, turns out to be rooted in selfishness.

God is to be loved – not feared.

Let Truth be your goal.

There is no evil. There are only degrees of good.

The book of the heart holds the key to the mystery of life.

The happiness of God-realization is the goal of all creation.

Let principle in work and honesty in life prevail. Honesty will guard you

against false modesty and will give you strength of true humility.

The urgent need of today is not sects or organized religion but love.

We should think well of those who think ill of us.

God is infinite reality. Cosmos is infinite delusion.

Real death is consciousness getting free from all limitations.

God is infinite honesty and if we live this honesty, we can know Him.

Fortunate are they whose love is tested by misfortunes.

True dedication means total surrender and complete implicit obedience to

the Master.

All suffering is your labour of love to unveil your real Self.

God ‘Is’ where ‘you’ are not.

Love is the very essence of Godhood.

Let go desires – let in God.

Intuition is the deposit of accumulated wisdom from other life times.

Jealousy comes from the poverty of the heart and is essentially selfish.

Perfection is full development of all aspects of personality.

Self lost is God found.

That is real service where there is no thought of the self at all.

Never tell others what you do not feel yourself.

When the mind is still, it reflects the nature of the Self. The mind has been

habituated throughout the ages and ages of time to look outwards. We must

train to look within.

If you have to suffer on account of Truth, do not worry; it is a benediction.

Be resigned to the will of God.

Where there is the cessation of the ego mind, there is the cessation of

incarnations.

An atheist is better than a hypocritical saint.

Honesty is the key to divinity.

Renounce nothing but your present attitude.

Don’t starve your stomach. Starve your mind. Everything is the play of

mind. Fasting of the mind is to have no thoughts. You leave your mind to Me

by having My constant remembrance or taking My name and there will be no

food (thought) worth the name to feed on.

To learn God is to unlearn yourself.

Love cannot be understood through intellect. Love is obtained through

uprooting the intellect.

God exists, therefore God is not sought, seen or realized.

Love is not to be told or expressed to anyone. It is a secret to be kept.

Spirituality must make man more human. The first step in spirituality is not

to speak ill of others.

If you become angry; try firmly not to express it.

Age, whether tender or ripe has nothing to do with the experience gathered

by the Self which knows no limitations of age.

Except God, all things are like passing show. God is never changing; all else

is ever changing.

All binding is mostly self-created. It can be overcome only if you really want

to become free.

The purpose of meditation is to concentrate one’s attention on God.

Meditation of the heart is expressed by the constant and unhampered flow of

love from the aspirant to the Master – the Divine Beloved.

Spiritual life is a matter of perception and not of mechanical conformity to

the rules, even when the rules are meant to stand for the highest ideals.

Understanding has no meaning. Love has meaning. Obedience has more

meaning. Holding my daaman has most meaning.

Every human relationship is based on love in one form or another and

endures or dissolves as that love is eternal or temporal in character. Love

means suffering and pain for oneself and happiness for others.

It is not paralysis of the body that matters but paralysis of the mind that

retards the soul.

Ordinary man suffers for himself. Masters suffer for humanity, whereas the

Avatar suffers for one and all beings and things.

One who lives for himself is truly dead and one who lives for God is truly

alive.

Remember that work in itself is its own appreciation; the moment you seek

appreciation, work is undone.

Of all the high roads which take the pilgrim directly to the divine destination,

the quickest lies through the Avatar or God-man.

If you concentrate upon anything intensely, it shatters the whole structure of

sanskaras; so that their chains become loose.

Forgetfulness of the world makes one a pilgrim;

Forgetfulness of the next world makes one a saint;

Forgetfulness of self means Realization.

Forgetfulness of forgetfulness means perfection.

Never break a promise. First think twice before you give a promise, but

once you make it, keep that promise at any price.

Man is born once with birth of the mind and man dies once with the

annihilation of the mind. Birth of the mind involves the process of evolution,

reincarnation and involution. Death of the mind is Realization of the Self. I am

the only one always lost and found among mankind.

To people who ask; ‘what is God’, the only answer is a counter question;

‘what is not God?’

There is no question of compromise in spirituality. Every desire is to be

extirpated 100%. It is either yes or no. The body should not be regarded as

separate from the soul for it is to be known from within. The body is not to be

denied but accepted and respected.

Selfishness comes into existence because of the human desire to find

fulfillment in action and experience.

When you help others, God knows immediately and is pleased. If you make

others happy, God heeds. Love and understanding never condemn but seek to

help and encourage. God never condemns us and never turns us from His door.

So, you should not condemn even those who condemn you.

Do not run away from the world. Run away from your own lower self.

When the tongue is silent, the mind speaks.

When the mind is silent, the heart sings.

When the heart stops singing, the soul begins to experience its original Self.

The humour is that the mind which is finite wants to retain itself and get to

know the Truth, which is infinite.

It is impossible to find God because you are looking for something you have

never lost. To find God you must find yourself lost to yourself.

Shut the tap of your mind and end all worries. Open the tap of your heart

and release love.

Do not be afraid of God. How can you love Him if you fear Him. Fear and love

are incompatible. The truly religious are God loving and not God fearing.

We are not punished for our deeds. We are punished by our deeds.

Seeking God through your mind is like trying to overtake your shadow in a

race; so near and yet so impossible. God is very, very simple and all the

complications are created by your mind.

It is literally true that each and everything, small or great, that happens in

the universe, happens only according to the will of God.

A truth when told is that which uplifts another. Anything that crushes

another person cannot be true.

Hope should be fortified by courage which can accept failure without being

upset.

Pure love is matchless in majesty; it has no parallel in power and there is no

darkness it cannot dispel. There is no ‘sadhana’ greater than love and no law

higher than love and no goal beyond love. God and love are identical.

All worship eventually comes to Me. Share My love freely. I am the One to

take, not the One to give what you want as you want. Consider the world a toy

and stick to Baba as a glue. If only two children can make life a hell, can you

imagine My plight who has billions of children. Whatever you do, do in the

name of Meher Baba.

I am the doctor of doctors – the doctor of souls. I am a farmer too. I till the

universe. Don’t try to understand Me. My depth is unfathomable. Love Me.

Doubly blessed is he who is humiliated in My name.

To make you become Me is My miracle.

The universe is My ashram and every heart is My house. I manifest only in

those hearts in which all, other than Me, cease to exist.

My work is restlessness. When I work that is My rest. My secret is the

elimination of ego. My promises are always kept in My own way in My own

time.

My appetite is satisfied only when I meet My dear lovers. Those who wait

for me do not wait in vain.

I am always running; down the ages I have run and I am sure that when I drop

My body, I shall still be running.

Cry within so that no one knows you are crying except Me. Don’t lose heart,

for I am in your heart.

I am the Ocean of purity. I am the purest of the pure. I can purify the worst

sinner.

Feel you are always watched by Me. I do not know where I am not.

I am whatever anyone takes Me to be.

You are all blind; unless you see Me as I am.

If you want to die for nothing; come to Me.

It has been My habit to give promises and break promises because I am

eternal and beyond promises.

Prasad is My life line to the individual who receives it.

It will be My real miracle if I deprive you of everything and still you go on

loving Me.

My justice is tempered with mercy and I always forgive.

Your pain and your pleasure leave them all to Me and then you remain free.

I am a marksman. I shoot hearts with My arrows of Divine Love.

I am a child whose playground is the universe and beings and things are My

toys in My divine game.

I am present whenever and wherever I am remembered with love. None will

repent having loved Me. None will repent having served Me. None will repent

having surrendered to Me. No matter whatever vicious qualities you may have,

do not hesitate to come to Me.

Have nothing to do with the path. The path will follow you if you love Me.

I am the song in words and its melody. I am the singer. I am the musical

instruments, the player and the listener.

To hear my name is enough. I do the rest.

It is the truth when I say that the waves do not roll and the leaves do not

move without My will.

Love Me more and more; because for the sake of love I have come among

you.

Your job is to bring My name to the ear. My job is to bring it from the ear to

the heart.

The fun is that though I am within you and with you all, you travel far and

wide to find Me. I live in the present moment which has eternity within it.

Time is not there. Past and future exist for you.

Saints are like nerves of My body.

The religion I teach is love of God. Let your life itself be My message of love

and truth for others.

I am infinitely restless and infinitely at peace simultaneously.

If you cannot love Me, do not worry. I will be loving you.

In spite of My silence, I speak with all the tongues of the world.

It is not your love for Me that matters but it is My love for you that counts.

I am the spiritual all-rounder of all times because I feel equally at home with

saints, yogis, philosophers, cricketers as well as the so called sinners and

scoundrels.

I belong to no religion. Every religion belongs to Me.

As you come in My contact (personal or impersonal) the good and the bad

buried deep within you comes out in flashes.

My miracles are not to raise the dead, but make one dead to self. I will not

give sight to the blind but make one blind to the world. Just love Me. Do not

wait for the last moment. Remember Me constantly and wholeheartedly all the

time and you will not fail to remember Me in your last moments and you will

surely come to Me.

Nobody can love Me unless he obtains My grace.

I never make plans, never change plans. It is all one endless plan of making

people know that there is no plan.

Seek Me not to extricate you from your predicaments but find Me in order to

surrender yourself wholeheartedly to My will. My words can never be in vain.

To follow Me, you have not to give up anything. Begin to remember Me from

where you are, from what you are and how you are, because I cannot be

excluded from any area, any location, anything. I am in all existence.

I do not intend giving you a lot of words to exercise your minds. I want your

minds to sleep.

Do worry, that you may not forget Me.

I am ever prepared to give you the gift but you must also prepare yourself to

receive it.

Of what avail if you were to gain the whole world but lose Me.

To surrender to Me is higher than to love Me.

To get yourself divided while doing My work shakes the very foundation of

that work.

If you love Me, nothing can come between you and Me.

He who approaches Me with a heart full of love has My sahavas.

Just stick to Me. It does not matter what you are.

I have only one message; think truly, speak truly and act truly, which I gave to

the world when I was here as Zoroaster.

As long as you hold fast to My daaman, you are priceless. But if you let go,

you have no worth, no value at all. So, beware, and hold on to My daaman, till

the very end.

I have come down to your level to show that I am one of you and one with

you.

I am present whenever and wherever I am remembered with love, irrespective

of the numbers. The more you think of Me the more you will realize My love for

you. When you become Mine, then you will find that I am already yours. My

real form is indescribable. I am what I am; the Highest of the High.

Trying leads to Grace. I want you especially to try and hold on to My daaman.

I have not come to establish anything new. I have come to put life into the

old. Remember that I am very divine and very human; simultaneously. It is no

joke to realize Me. My job is to awaken the feelings of Godliness in people. I

am no prophet. I am an Awakener to the old Truth humanity is forgetting. I

have come to awaken people to One God, one humanity and one brotherhood.

I have not come to teach a new religion but revitalize the earlier ones.

When I drop My body I shall remain in all who Love Me. I never die.

If I am free to give as I wish, I must also remain free to take away as and when

I deem it best, in any way, at any time.

The ocean has a shore but I am the shore-less Ocean.

I feel all your sufferings because you are in Me.

I too am an artist. I have painted the whole Universe.

When I bow down to you, I bow down to My Infinite Self that I see in you all.

The remedy for all ills is to remember Me constantly.

If My Grace descends on you, you will become Me.

You can leave your mind to My care by remembering Me or repeating My

name silently as often as you can. Die in Baba. Die for Baba. Die with Baba.

Then you will live with Baba. Even your efforts to remember Me are My

blessings.

Things that are Real are always given and received in Silence. If My silence

does not speak, what avail words?

The prayer that God hears is the prayer of the heart. God does not listen to

the language of the tongue or to the language of the mind. He responds only to

the language of the heart. The language of the heart is the song of the Beloved.

Beloved God can only be found within you, for His only abode is your heart.

The more we live for others and the less we live for ourselves, the more the

lower desires are eliminated and this in turn reacts upon the ego, suppresses it

and transforms it proportionately.

The goal of creation is to know the Self as Infinite Eternal Existence and to

enable others to realize the same Self.

I am never silent. I speak eternally. The voice that is head deep within the

soul is My voice. To those who are receptive to this voice, I speak. God is

everlastingly working in Silence, unobserved, unheard except by those who

experience His Infinite Silence. The Silence which I have been observing is a call

from the Silence of unfathomable Divinity. Invite that Divinity into your hearts.

External Silence helps the inner Silence and only in internal Silence is Baba

found.

Train your mind to pass over thoughts. Do not countenance them until such

time that you surrender the mind itself. It is like the wound up alarm clock. It

will run at the appropriate time only as long as the winding is there. Let it run

and run its course, but take care not to wind it again; by indulging in actions.

Mind is a good servant. But a bad Master.

Find Me where I really exist, that is within you. Feel Me in your heart. I am

ever there. What is wanted is help through the heart. One has to find Me

there.

Unity in the midst of diversity can be made to be felt only by touching the

very core of the heart. I have come to sow the seed of Love in your hearts.

To drown all sounds in My Silence is to hearken to My word of words.

When you keep talking I conceal Myself. When you keep Silent, I reveal

Myself.

Much Silence makes a mighty noise. When mankind becomes completely

deaf to the thunder of His Silence, God incarnates as Man.

For ages I have been giving in Silence, My Silent message of Love. Silent is

Love and the lover loves My Silence and silently adores Me in My Silence.

In deep sleep the tongue, mind and heart are silent and one is unconscious. If

one can go into deep sleep and remain awake, one has it; one becomes what

one originally was and eternally is: “God”. Every time you go to sleep, you are

unconsciously united with the Infinite Reality.

My voice is the voice of inspiration, of intuition and of guidance. To those

who are receptive to this voice, I speak.

Where imagination ends God Is and Godhood begins. Imagination is an

eternal mimicry of reality, affecting the shadow play of illusion.

Quite often we cannot control our thoughts but we can control putting any

of them into action; handled thus the disturbing thoughts die of attrition.

One should restrain the mind and this means desirelessness. When not a

single sanskara remains, when attachment ceases, Real Silence is achieved.

The annihilation of the ego mind is planned within the Avatar’s Universal

Mind. It is that fire of Love in the Universal Mind that consumes the sanskaras

of the limited mind.

My Silence is the Silence of thunder and not the silence of the graveyard.

Those who cannot hear this voice of Silence are the truly deaf ones.

SPIRITUAL PLACES

Assisi: (7 Aug 1932) spiritually, a big meeting of spiritual personages took place

here, the likes of which has never been held. Masters and Avatars all have their

own circles. The circle of the Avatar is always of the same type, appearing and

working with Him as during the previous Avatarhood. They have different roles

in different periods. When I was Jesus, for example, two played the role that

Todd and Herbert fill. When I was Krishna, these two were Narad and Sudama.

St. Marks Square: (17 Aug 1932) this church is one of the great spiritual centres

of Europe. The whole structure corresponds to the Avatar’s 12 disciples of the

inner circle and 108 disciples of the outer circle. I was here as Jesus with two of

My apostles, one month before My crucifixion and sat on the exact spot where

St. Marks was later built. I was here 620 years ago.

Luango, Switzerland: (29 April 1932) I am often reminded of John and Judas

though I had great love for Peter. I remember a humorous incident in the life of

Jesus. A very stout man tried to kick Jesus (Me) when he was carrying the cross.

But he was so far away while trying to kick him that he fell down. I remember.

When I as Jesus, ordered a pit to be dug to bury a member of my circle, Peter

completed the work with his fingers, thereby injuring them badly and to the

point that one finger was fractured and the flesh lacerated. But the very next

day he was healed by My (Jesus) blowing on it.

Isfahan: (19 Oct 1929) just as I asked you today to confess openly your

weaknesses, Jesus would meet his disciples at a fixed time and forgive their

weaknesses and advice them. But after confession and pardon the action

should not be repeated. At the time of Jesus I uttered many warnings, yet none

of My apostles could grasp in advance about My crucifixion.

UNIVERSAL SPIRITUAL CENTRE

BBaabbaa’’ss speech at the foundation laying ceremony for His Universal Spiritual

Centre at Mysore in 1939:

The world is at war today. It has engulfed all departments of life: political,

economic, social and religious. The instinct of self-preservation, enhanced by

fear and uncertainty of the future, is aggressively active in the guise of

pseudonyms and catchwords. Exclusiveness is paraded as nationalism; self

interest is known as economics; fanaticism is synonymous with religion;

libertinism is looked upon as social and moral freedom; and exploitation is

termed politics. This instinct of self preservation is legitimate and natural in the

lower order of life, in the lower scale of evolution. But when it expresses itself

through man, it makes of him nothing more than a talking animal and as such,

he is yet a long way from deserving the title, ‘The Best of Creation’. Is it

anybody’s fault if one finds oneself on the right side of things or the wrong side

of things? No! Every human being has come to serve and achieve a definite

purpose, and by playing his part to perfection, he automatically works out his

own salvation. There is this difference, however.

In the divine scheme of things individuals or a people who, instead of

progressing higher and onward, are about to lapse into bestiality, it is only

suffering that rehabilitates them. Spiritual Masters achieve for humanity the

same resurrection, much more easily and less painfully not by preaching, but by

translating into fulfillment the too familiar words, self-denial and brotherhood

of man, which have their very beginning in love and whose ultimate end is love.

The time for such a universal awakening is looking larger in the near future. To

meet this awakening time the scheme of Universal Spiritual Centre is founded

today. Mysore will surely realize, at no distant date in future, its singular good

fortune in possessing, among many progressive features, the spiritual capital of

the world as well. I bless every one of you, participants and non-participants,

in the greatest scheme of spiritual regeneration, the foundation of which you

have witnessed today. This scheme of Universal Spiritual Centre symbolizes the

character of My divine mission on earth. I bless you.

BABA ON MEHERABAD

TThhiiss ppllaaccee is the most important one. It is the best place for those on the

spiritual path. Despite My visiting various places for work it is always best to

return to Meherabad.

My work at Meherabad is like digging numerous canals and placing as many

people as possible on the banks so that when the spiritual flood is let loose, they

may benefit by having the divine flow within their reach.

In 1923 I first set foot in Meherabad, 32 years ago. I had nothing with Me. At

the time Nusserwan Sathe and Kaka Chinchorker used to give Me money

themselves obtaining it from others. I spent all for the Premashram, schools,

dharamshalas, etc., which I established. I had spent nothing on Myself. I have

no value for money. I might have spent a crore of rupees till now. In spite of

that, today I have nothing. If you cannot give do not worry about it. Do not mix

up love and money. Love for Me must be there in your hearts. Do not cease

loving Me. Only through love alone you can become God.

It was like a small model town. In it lived about 500 souls, working in the

hospital, the dispensary and the schools. There were also ashrams for boys,

men and women and shelter for the poor and for the lepers. At that time nearly

Rs.1000 per day used to be spent for the maintenance of the various services,

while the mandali often lived on plain dal and rice for lunch and milk-less tea or

thin soup of methi leaves and coarse bread for dinner. I remained generally on

liquids or on limited meals taken once in a week or fortnight. I would take an

active part in every phase, including the cleaning of latrines and spent three or

four hours bathing the school children.

In future, Meherabad will be like Jerusalem. For My spiritual work it is the best

place. It will always be the center of My work.

Enjoy the quiet that you experience now. In future there will be a sea of people

here. So, you who are with Me, make the most of this opportunity. It will never

come again.

The time will come when this whole vast expanse will be filled with people.

Now, when you go out and try to tell people in the world about Meher Baba,

you find that most of them have not even heard of Me. But in future, you will

have to search hard to find a person who has not heard of Me.

After I drop My body the physical remains will rest here and this will become an

important place of pilgrimage for the whole world. You all do not realize the

importance of this day. After 70 years this place will be a place of great privilege

and pilgrimage. A big town will grow up here. How fortunate you are that you

are hearing about the importance of this place in the physical Presence of Him

to whose Samadhi (tomb), will flock one day, from all over the world, all the

lovers of God, philosophers and worshippers to pay their homage.

FLOW ON TO THE OCEAN

YYoouu wwiillll have liberation (mukti). But let your love flow on ceaselessly, like a

stream from the mountain on its way to the Ocean. Obstructions there will be

of pleasures, of pains. Pass by these as passing phases. There will be flowers

and thorns by the bank on the floor. Do not get attached, do not get affected.

Go on and on and let the stream become a river. Doubts will assail you; self

complacency may lure you, but with love in the heart roll on, flow on to me –

The Ocean. Worry not, fear not. I am the Ocean of Love.

TOMB SHRINE (SAMADHI)

TThhiiss iiss the place of My former seclusion, where I sat for one year continuously.

In this place you will find a trench-like thing where I stayed day and night and

confined Myself in seclusion. I was taking My bath also in it. The period of

seclusion spread over one year in 1927 – 1928. I was not taking solid food and I

was staying here on coffee only.

While bowing down at the Tomb, I want you all to remember two things:

1. To love Me wholeheartedly; Love does not mean the outward

expression. You should love Me in such a way that you forget

yourself in Me, the Beloved. If you cannot love Me, I will love

you and you will be My Beloved.

2. To give happiness to others at the cost of your own happiness

or comfort.

After My passing away, whatever you ask for at My Tomb from the bottom of

your heart I will give.

BABA’S FLAG

BBaabbaa had said: The flag should be of seven colours. Red should be at the

bottom of the flag and sky blue on the top. Arrangement of the other colours is

your decision.

“Do you know why I suggested a seven colour flag? The seven colours represent

the seven Planes of Consciousness. They also represent, besides, sanskaras or

impressions. The colour of the flag signifies man’s rise from the grossest of

impressions of lust and anger symbolized by red at the bottom; to the

culmination to the highest state of spirituality and oneness with God,

symbolized by sky blue at the top.

Baba’s flag represents the colours of the rainbow. The bottom strip is red,

which signifies the sanskaras of the animal nature in man, representing a

concentration of lustful sanskaras, since man’s impression are mainly made up

of lustful actions.

The next five strips on top of the red are: turquoise, purple, yellow, green,

orange and blue at the top. The top most strip of blue, the blue of very clear sky

signifies the divine in man.

MYRTLE BEACH CENTRE, South California

AAggeess aaggoo this was the place where I moved about and stayed. The

combination of the lake, the ocean and the woods give a unique atmosphere.

Of all the homes I have visited, this is the home I love the best because it was

given to Me and built for Me with love. I never leave; remember because this is

My home in the west.

Of all the places in the world, I feel most comfortable in this house, even though

the climate is hot and humid. I like this place.

The centre at Myrtle Beach must not be touched because, after I drop My body,

it will become a place of pilgrimage for it has Baba’s heart in it.

THE NUMBER SEVEN

TThhee evolution of creation has 7 stages. There are 7 Planes and 7 types of

desires. There are 7 types of sanskaras, 7 types of colours, 7 types of flights of

imagination and 7 types of sounds. The reason why all these have 7 varieties is

that at the beginning of creation, there was a clash between matter (akash) and

energy (pran) and energy powers were divided into 7 forms.

The original sound coming out of the creation or Om point also turned out 7

sounds. In the gross world the shadow of the melody is again divided into 7

parts and only expert singers can express these tones and octaves. When you

speak, the voice passes through 7 veils. Your physique, a byproduct of your

sanskaras, determines whether your voice is sweet or harsh. Everything is made

up of 7: Seven substances of the first subtle plane (astral) 7 stages of evolution,

7 Planes and 7 heavens in involution.

The number 7 is significant.

PLAYING CARDS

DDoo you think I play cards for nothing? It is all in connection with My Universal

work.

Two to Ten: Playing cards numbers 2 to 10 represents the lower evolutionary

stages through which the soul has to pass, gather experience and strength on

the way.

Jack: stands for the human form with fully developed consciousness,

representing at this point the stage of bhakthi.

Queen: symbolizes the stage of karma and Raja Yoga, the spiritual journey of

the soul on the inner path.

King: denotes gnyan.

Ace: Surpassing all these lower stages is the Ace, signifying the One without a

second, the ultimate reality – God.

THE COCONUT

BBaabbaa explained that the hair of the coconut represents the outer body of man,

the outer crust, the subtle body and the kernel, the mental body. The water of

the coconut represents the self. Placing the coconut at the feet of the master

symbolizes the surrender of one’s all and in doing so the discipline means

‘everything is yours’.

DESTINY, LUCK & FATE

DDeessttiinnyy means the divine will guiding the lines of sin and virtue (resulting in

suffering and happiness) experienced by the soul from the beginning of its

evolution till its end in Realization.

Fate or luck or fortune is the means or process of spending the impressions the

soul gathers while passing through innumerable evolutionary stages, in other

words, the law of karma; or the automatic forming of luck or fate in the next

life, according to the sanskaras gathered in this life. The impressions of every

life build the fate of the life coming after. As a simile, suppose every soul has to

bear a burden of 700 tons (i.e. a certain amount of suffering and happiness

which every soul has to pass through) from the beginning of its evolution till the

end of Realization. But as the burden of these 700 tons varies in kind and form

the impression of the lives vary too, and the fate of every new life is formed

according to the impressions gathered in the last life. Thus, the experiencing of

the soul of the impressions of the past life means – fate. Thus the soul has to

pass through a certain number of lives and forms; but the experiences of every

life vary, so do the fates also vary. Hence, destiny is one (for every man) but

fate, luck or fortune is different.

JAWAHARLAL NEHRU

II aamm happy that today is the birthday of Nehru. He is an all India man and has

a very good heart, is intelligent and full of energy. Whatever he does, he does

with all sincerity. With My Grace India will prosper spiritually and materially.

The leaders are gems. Our good wishes to Nehru on his birthday. I am happy to

remember him. We have only a few gems in India. Gandhi was incomparable

and so is Nehru. Just imagine he is 66 today and still has so much energy for

work because his whole mind is absorbed in the government of the nation. We

should be proud of him.

All energy flows through Me and from Me. This is a fact. When I say all this

about Nehru, it will reach him. Sending him a greetings telegram will reduce the

value of my words.

Jawaharlal Nehru will come to Me. He will have to come. (Within 24 hours the

news of Nehru’s passing was announced.)

Baba’s Message to Indira Gandhi after Nehru’s passing (1964): Jawaharlal

Nehru was matchless as a statesman and India will have to wait for another 700

years to find another jewel like him. He can be said to be a Karma Yogi. It

would have been good if he had read at least some portions of ‘God Speaks’

presented to him by Sardar Amarsingh Saigal, M.P. Only when I come again

during my next advent on earth will there be another like Jawaharlal.

OTHER PROMINENT PEOPLE

To Dr. Ambedkar: (12 Sep 1932): Join hands with Gandhi and go along with him

for a joint electorate. You can exercise your influence on your colleagues and I

will help you internally. You try to persuade those in your party and bring them

round. I will see to the rest. Thus you will be doing the greatest service for your

people. I am very pleased to have seen you.

J. Krishnamurthy: He does good and will come to Me one day. I will help him

advance on the path. Krishnamurthy possesses great possibilities within

himself. He is on the right path but he will not fulfill himself or become truly

great as long as he does not visit me.

To Sanjeeva Reddy: (President of AICC) It is better to deny God than to defy

God. To profess to be a lover of God and then be dishonest to God, to the work

and to himself is unparalleled hypocrisy. Difficulties give us the opportunity to

prove our greatness by overcoming them. When the leader of a nation puts

complete faith in God, God makes him the instrument to guide the nation

rightly. We should think well of those who think ill of us.

Annie Besant: will be born as a man in India.

Chiang Kai Sheik: is a great philosopher, a man of great spirit, sincere and

practical.

Adolf Hitler: However crazy and brutal, is sincere in his contentions. He

aroused a whole nation to prepare them to face the world. Hitler is a perfect

medium and actor who plays his role.

Stalin: is also a good medium: shrewd, clever and bold. What he did achieve, no

one else could have done.

Churchill: is a clever and shrewd politician. He is the spirit of Britain, which but

for him, would have failed.

Viceroy Irwin and Mahatma Gandhi: have spiritual connections with me for

both lived at the time of Shivaji.

Kennedy’s assassination: Dying as he did has not only made him immortal in

mankind’s history but it has given him a great push forward spiritually.

Although he was assassinated because it was ordained to be so, it is not a good

thing and it portends more suffering ahead to the world.

LORD KRISHNA & ME

II aamm Krishna. I want all of you to love Me as Meera loved Krishna.

The Bhagavat Gita: I not only believe in it, I experience it every moment. Mere

intellectual understanding is not sufficient. You may read holy books for the

rest of your life but that will not take you an inch nearer to God if you have no

desire to see Him, to experience Him or to know Him.

I as Krishna ordered Arjuna to kill. As Christ I ordered Peter to give his other

cheek to be slapped. But the Truth underlying both is the same. People since

then have not advanced but have changed. What Krishna teaches in the Gita is

divine and it goes deep down. It says you can become God if you love Me,

follow Me, surrender to Me. There is no other way. Disciples must do as the

Master orders and not imitate. Arjuna took up his bow willingly and obeyed,

knowing with perfect knowledge that he was not killing. Detached, he had to do

this for the spiritual good; no lust for killing nor duty but pure detachment to do

Krishna’s work.

AVATAR JESUS CHRIST

CChhrriisstt was a great soul who realized God. So the religion derived from such a

divine being must be great. I am beyond caste and religion and all religions

belong to Me. I am with God and in everyone and everything. I am merged in

God in the same way in which Krishna, Buddha and Christ were merged in and

had been one with God.

Jesus was conceived without lust.

There is a secret about Jesus which the Christians do not know. When Jesus was

crucified, he did not die, but he entered the state of Nirvikalpa Samadhi; (‘I am

God’ state without body consciousness.)

On the third day he again became conscious of his body and travelled secretly in

disguise eastwards to India with two disciples. This was called Jesus’

resurrection.

After reaching India, he travelled farther east to Rangoon in Burma and

remained there for some time. He then went north and finally settled in

Kashmir. When his work was finished he dropped his body and entered

Nirvikalpa Samadhi permanently. Saints in India have verified these facts about

the travels of Jesus. Mankind will soon be aware of the true life of Jesus.

The place which I have chosen to remain in seclusion in Harvan is connected

with Jesus Christ. His body is buried in a cave near here.

(Baba was in seclusion and fast for four months in 1929 on a slope of the

mountain at Harvan)

Certain types of work which I have to do in non physical realms prompt me to

shut myself up in a small area. After becoming Perfect, Jesus stayed for 40 days

and nights in a mountain for the same reason and did not allow even his

apostles to approach him.

INTERVIEW: LOVE [28 May 1937, Nasik retreat, India]

‘WWhhaatt is Love?’

“To give and never to ask.”

‘What leads to this Love?’

“Grace. Grace is not cheaply brought. It is gained by being always ready to

serve and reluctant to be served. There are many points which lead to Grace:

Wishing well for others at the cost of one’s self

Never backbiting

Tolerance supreme

Trying not to worry; trying not to worry is almost impossible; so try!

Thinking more of the good point in others and less of their bad points”

‘What leads to this Grace?’

“Doing all of the above. If you do one of these things perfectly, the rest must

follow. Then Grace descends. Have Love; and when you have Love, the union

with the Beloved is certain.”

“When Christ said, ‘Love your neighbor’, he did not mean fall in love with your

neighbor. When you love, you give; when you fall in love, you want. Love Me in

any way you like, but love Me. It is all the same. Love Me. I am pure, the

source of purity, so I consume all weaknesses in My fire of Love. Give your sins,

weaknesses, virtues, all to Me; but give. I would not mind even one falling in

love with Me; I can purify; but when you fall in love with anybody else, you

cannot call it love. Love is pure as God. It gives and never asks; that needs

Grace.”

“Yogis in Himalayas, with long eyelashes and long beards meditating, sitting in

samadhi, they too, have not this Love; it is precious. The mother dies for the

child; supreme sacrifice, yet it is not Love. Heroes die for their country, but this

is not Love.”

“Love! You know when you have Love; you cannot understand theoretically,

you have to experience it.”

INTERVIEW: SELF-REALIZATION

[17 Feb 1934, Meher Ashram, Madras, India]

‘BBaabbaa is fond of children.’

“Yes, I am but a child. Only after becoming a child I found it. Not until one

becomes a child, does he achieve the slightest spiritual experience! Once one

becomes a child, he enjoys the Bliss. Nothing worries him: thoughts, words or

actions.”

Baba was introduced to a moneylender who unlike his professional brothers was

spiritual.

“When your mind is inclined to spirituality, it does not matter what line you are

in.”

‘Can anyone get Self-Realization all in a sudden; or does it come only through

spiritual experience?’

“In some cases, Self-Realization occurs all at once, as it is in My case. In other

cases, experience culminates in Realization gradually.”

‘What is Infinity?’

“That which is contained in your own Self.”

‘Can finite mind realize God?’

“There is nothing like finite. Even now when you think that you are finite, your

conception of finite is not real. There is nothing like finite. As long as the senses

of binding remains, it can have glimpses of Infinite, but when the Infinite is

realized it is found that the finite was Infinite all the time. So, there is no

question of finite finding Infinite. The only question is the conception of being

finite is to go.”

‘Is it due to ignorance that finite does not know that it is Infinite?’

“Yes and Self-Realization means knowledge. But this ignorance is the medium

of self to realize Self. Just as the bird which is ever free; but when is imprisoned

and afterwards it is let go, it knows what freedom is; and as this impression of

its imprisonment has been the medium for the bird’s knowing and appreciating

what freedom is, so also, although you are all knowledge you don’t know that

you are knowledge; and your present ignorance, like the bird’s imprisonment, is

the medium, which will help you to comprehend that you are all knowledge all

along.”

‘What is the cause of ignorance?’

“The cause for an individual’s ignorance is the result of the evolutionary

impressions and for the collective ignorance the cause is the outcome of the

very first existence.”

“All is Infinite. In Self-Realization, there is no finite. But, as long as, you are not

individually free from the duality, duality exists. The substratum of all this is

Love. Love is the one and only thing. Devoid of Love, everything is miserable.

Love is God and everything that is real. Lust is perverted love, so it is unreal.”

‘Is this your message to us?’
